That day from the moment he awoke beside me, I knew everything had changed. Something in the way his eyes looked through me said, “Things will never be the same.” There will be no more lazy days. I could see in the determination on his face; there would be no more picnics under the Cottonwood. No more secret meetings after the sun had set, when we watched the moonlight and the tree’s dancing shadows. He didn’t twirl me around as he ran past; he didn’t even brush my hand. Even so, I watched with pride as he stepped confidently into the sun. I silently waved goodbye. His mother put him on the school bus, and didn’t flinch until it pulled away. She approached me tearfully; she gave me that last hug that he had neglected. Then she set me high on the shelf, where I now watch over his days. more shots from university – this is based on childhood memories.
I can’t really explain why I wanted to post this. I just keep coming back to it. I think I like the grain and the timeless feel it has. This was taken on my Leica r3 – film scanned .. this is part of a body of work taken on a woodland walk.
Standing aside from her younger, and more extroverted brothers and sisters posing for photos, this young girl gave a simple and shy wave to the camera- The fact that she is wearing a cutecartoon dress, and is missing her front tooth reminds me that kids are the same everywhere! Available as greeting card only.
A selection of images that portray the deepest emotions of childhood – the dreamworld, the surreal, happiness and joy as well as their vulnerability. I am also very happy to make calenders on an individual basis :) Thanks for looking. An updated calender of images inspired by childhood. Please let me know if you think other images should have been included.
more from my series of children at play.
When things worried me, either as a child or adult, my grandad would always say to me that ‘time passes’. Whatever seemed challenging or scary will pass – you will pass through it. It sounds simple but it is a saying that stays with me even now. These images are memories. Not always actual events but feelings, emotions conveyed from the recess of my mind to the camera. I have made this calender so that I can add new work.
I loved her expression as she gazed out the train window. The way her hair was tossed by the breeze from the open window. It was a hot afternoon on the tablelands of south-east New South Wales.
