As a child I have fond memories of eating Jelly Babies when I lived in England. I later found out that they were originally known as Peace Babies. Jelly Babies were launched 75 Years ago by Bassett’s – one of Britain’s oldest sweets manufacturers – to celebrate the end of the first world war. Peace Babies were popular between the wars, but production ceased in the Second World War because of a shortage of raw materials. They came back in 1953, renamed Jelly Babies. I thought I’ll paint some of the famous Bertie Basset’s liquorice allsorts too,,,I use to love the black jelly ones with thousands and thousands on them. Oh the memories of childhood :)
I saw this rusted frame of a bike on the borders of this wheat field, when I saw it it reminded me of the times I spent as a kid wheeling around my own bike with a hockey card in the spokes and the flag raised high on the back and I even had a streamer or two flapping in the wind off my handlebars. To me this old rusted frame symbolizes the wonderful experiences of a fantastic childhood full of laughter, smiles and fond memories, but time is our enemy and for many of us it fades our once cherished memories to distant glimmers that flicker by on rare occasions, and like this old rusted frame are soon forgotten and will eventually fade completely. / / This replaces a previous version of the image Lost & Found. / / Visit my website On The Rock Photography / /

Scabious is much too ugly a name for this delightful bloom (scabiosa) otherwise know as the pincushion flower. It’s a wonderfully long flowering perennial and older varieties have a gorgeous delicate fragrance. This particular plant is (even) older than me (! ? !) and has been carefully tended by my dad for decades as it came (via a removal van) from the house I was born in. Captured during a recent shower Its lovely scent is a great reminder of summers past. . . :))) Greenery is from a nearby heather and this was taken in the same rain as summer shower so it was well worth getting slightly damp! ;))

I believe this image has somehow created itself out of my subconscious…it seems to represent my childhood in GDR (East Germany) where I’ve been living a simple and happy life blissfully unaware of the restrictions that lay ahead and the lack of freedom…. It was not until later that I’ve realized how trapped I felt. Speaking your mind was dangerous and critizing the regime was certainly the quickest way to get locked up. Trying to leave the country could easily turn into a death sentence but obeying was too. Interesting documentary about the German wall on YouTube here I created this image for the Texture challenge in the Fine Art Composite group. I used four of my own photographs and various textures. Two of the textures (Splatter and Crystals) were kindly supplied by RavenSoul to be used for the challenge. Featured in the European Everyday Life group on 15 Mar 2009. Ahh summer has arrived early for some of us this year. After a day at the beach last weekend, I was able to get that good old feeling back that only summer can bring! These kids were playing around at the beach, and I couldn’t help but be reminded of a time in life when going to the beach, making a sand castle, digging a hole to fill when tide comes in, finding something living a rock and burying someone in sand were the best things you could ever do. Life’s simple pleasures. I live for a sunny day. Taken at Port Melbourne Beach Original shot layered once and a free use texture from www.deviantart.com – tagger stock layered on top, with a slight adjustment of RGB. Finally, omni lighting effect applied. Canon 50D / 18 – 55, 58mm / f11, 1/250, ISO 100 MCN: CC3BP-T4CDV-S575Y More Textured work:
Sorry to upload another from my memory series. I am afraid over the next few days I shall be adding more as from next week I shall have little time to participate on redbubble as my course starts again. I am doing a course on alternative printing so hopefully will have something to upload. I apologise to for not being able to comment as much as I would like. I wasn’t going to say much about this image but I thought I would just paste in the reply I gave to Matt’s comment about it: A couple of weeks ago I went to my daughters school for a meeting – at the same time she had come out for playtime – I was watching her and witnessed a group of girls that kept running away from her – leaving her standing alone – in the end she stood there crying. I left the office and went outside to pick her up and comfort her – it was only then that the teacher noticed. When I was looking through my negs this afternoon I saw this one and it made me think of it .. There is an anti-bullying day at her school on friday .. they all have to wear blue .. i hope things improve but it does seem, sadly that the playground hasn’t changed that much. So yes, this is exactly what I was aiming for.
