The Jama Masjid in Old Delhi, India – I believe India’s largest Mosque – one of my favourite buildings in the world. I love Islamic art and architecture. I wanted to create something different when photographing this beautiful building. Architecture pictures can be boring and lifeless – I didn’t want to represent the Jama Masjid in this way, because it is so full of life. I asked the boy in the foreground to run through the flock of pigeons so they would fly upwards, away from the building. It was a nice coinsidence that he was positioned in the doorway. This effect achieved, to me, looks like angels flying out of the Mosque. Angels of Allah.

This little girl had the most striking eyes I’ve ever seen. ‘Meenakshi’ means ‘one who has fish-like eyes’: Meena (fish) + Akshi (eyes). The photo was taken on New Year’s Eve at Varkala Beach, Kerala, India. There were many Indian people on the beach and I went over to ‘hang out’ with them. This girl’s elderly grandmother asked me if I would take a photo of her grand daughter – I happily obliged!! I showed her the photo on the back of the digital camera, and suddenly I had 20 or 30 Indian women surrounding me wanting to look at the photo. The nicest thing then happened – when they saw the photo, they all wanted to touch my arm. It was my most memorable experience during the whole 6 weeks.

Cusco, Peru’ ! / While walking in Cusco a few days ago I met this little girl, Flor, and her sister Yolanda ! I had already taken a picture of them last year ” Flor y Yolanda ” and when I showed them a copy of the photo.. they were so impressed that they asked me to take more pictures. This is just one of the many I took ! She is so confident and loves to be photographed !!! I love this picture for the way she poses here, the way she smiles, her spontaneity.. and the beautiful contrast of colors !!!

This is one of the main temples in Vang Vien, Laos. The temple buildings are beautifully ornate and the surrounding garden is peaceful. On this day however, a number of the monks were busy conducting repairs on the building and, the younger ones especially, were scouting in and out of the windows and up and down the ladder as part of their work. They held a group of us captivated, cameras in hand, with their cheeky expression and playful teasing. I loved the strong contrast of the orange robe against the pink building – I think the colours capture the playfulness of the atmosphere even more than the monk’s expression in this case.

Cusco, Perú !!! / This is one of the first shot I took in Cusco this year !!! / I had just arrived and I was feeling a bit strange and not really in the mood to take pictures of people.. I was maybe thinking about life a bit too much ! / But when she passed by I said something funny to her and pressed the bottom !! / I´m glad i did !

Chefchaouen is a city in northwest Morocco. It is the chief town of the province of the same name. Chefchaouen is situated in the Rif Mountains, just inland from Tangier and Tetouan. The city was founded in 1471, as a small fortress which still exists to this day, by Moorish exiles from Spain to fight the Portuguese invasions of northern Morocco. It was known as one of the main concentrations of Moriscos and Jews who sought refuge in this mountainous city after the Spanish Reconquista in medieval times. In 1920, the Spanish seized Chefchaouen to form part of Spanish Morocco. They returned the city after the independence of Morocco in 1956. The name ‘Chefchaouen’ refers to the shapes of the mountain tops that tower over the town, that look like the two horns (chaoua) of a goat. It literally means “look at the horns”. The blue-rinsed houses and buildings, are a tradition that comes from the town’s former Jewish population. This was pure fun, there was this whole group of women and one “beautifull’ man, i really wanted to take his shot and they where asking me ‘why you want photo from that man”, well i said because he is ‘beautifull’ they thought that was sooo funny..they wanted on the photo ,forget about him, take us! so i did offcourse and that attracted more people…finally i made a shot of the ‘beautifull’ man too.. but that was at least an hour later!! Tacanga ( Sta Marta ), Colombia! I visited this little village near Santa Marta on the North Coast of Colombia a few weeks ago. People seemed to be really friendly and enjoying a simple life ! / In this quite and tranquil place I just found peace, enjoying sun and fresh fish. / While eating in one of the many restaurant after a day on the beach, I noticed those two little boys trying to catch in somehow a fish and everything they could !!!

A mother with her son in a Bishnoi community in India’s Great Thar Desert. The community was located about 50km outside of Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, close to the Pakistani border. The woman and her family were very kind, and invited us to stay in their village.

Ayacucho, Peru ! Quechua and Aymara were the main languages spoken by the native people of the central highland of South America before the arrival of the spanish ! / In the rural areas of Ayacucho, in central Peru, like in the areas around Cusco the majority of native people still speaks Quechua and some of them barely spanish ! / I didn´t meet many tourists during the time spent in this part of Peru and i really felt immerse in a different reality ! / But now it´s not so different anymore…!!! / / .
