Ok, ok first of all, everyone breath. Cool. Now let’s check. Melbourne experiencing four seasons in one day? Check. Shane Warne caught out again? Check. Running my own business continuing to be challenging? Check. Darren Stones steering the good ship RB around icebergs with a confident if not somewhat alcohol induced flourish? Check. Some people on some distant journal thread arguing about freedom of speech as if RB is the most vital instrument for world peace on earth. Whilst slandering, vilifying and taunting each other with racial, overworked cliches from behind psuedo names? Check. So nothing new or unusual about today then? Un check. What the… Check this… Today in seperate orders people have bought… 1 canvas print of shoe woman plus 20 cards of shoe woman 150 cards of mother & child 25 cards of Possibility II 25 cards of the congo skipping kids & a further 26 of these 20 cards of this beauty 5 cards of these guys 5 cards of these little ones 2 cards of this chap 2 cards of this dude 2 cards of this princess 5 cards of this piece of possibility and 2 cards of this beautiful, precious boy I don’t know anything much about freedom of speech, flags, philosophy or anything like the stuff that’s been going on here this week. But I’ll tell you all ONE VERY IMPORTANT THING. These purchases will save lives. These people live on less than a dollar a day. They live in slums, gutters and sheds made of flattened alluminium cans. The love, they laugh, they dream – they dodge bullets, they run as fast as they can from rapists usually unsuccessfully, they starve and they cry. Every cent of revenue goes to them and the brave souls who live in a war zone to help them. They couldn’t give a rats about flags, and virtual slanging matches. They live on the real edge. I didn’t cry once in Africa. Right now I am sitting here drowning in tears. Maybe change is possible? Even the tiniest bit?? Thanks RB – thanks whoever. EDIT: SEEMS LIKE A GOOD TIME TO DEBUT THIS FELLA. Oh and thinking of turning some of these into Chrissy cards if anyone’s interested.

  • Safely in Heaven
    by amarica

    US$3.42–US$91.20

I received a wonderful email this morining containing this letter. This letter inspired this work of art titled “Safely in Heaven”: THIS IS THE EMAIL I RECEIVED: i DO NOT KNOW MEREDITH OR ABBEY, BUT THIS STORY IS BEAUTIFUL This is one of the kindest things I’ve ever experienced. I have no way of knowing who sent it, but there is a beautiful soul working in the dead letter office at the Post Office. Our 14 year old dog, Abbey, died last month. The day after she died, my 4 year old daughter Meredith was crying and talking about how much she missed Abbey. She asked if we could write a letter to God so that when Abbey got to heaven, God would recognize her. I told her that I thought we could so she dictated these words: Dear God, Will you please take care of my dog? She died yesterday and is with you in heaven. I miss her very much. I am happy that you let me have her as my dog even though she got sick. I hope you will play with her. She likes to play with balls and to swim. I am sending a picture of her so when you see her. You will know that she is my dog. I really miss her. Love, Meredith. We put the letter in an envelope with a picture of Abbey and Meredith and addressed it to God/Heaven. We put our return address on it then Meredith pasted several stamps on the front of the envelope because she said it would take lots of stamps to get the letter all the way to heaven. That afternoon she dropped it into the letter box at the post office. A few days later, she asked if God had gotten the letter yet. I told her that I thought He had. Yesterday, there was a package wrapped in gold paper on our front porch addressed, ‘To Meredith,’ in an unfamiliar hand. Meredith opened it. Inside was a book by Mr. Rogers called, ‘When a Pet Dies.’ Taped to the inside front cover was the letter we had written to God in its opened envelope. On the opposite page was the picture of Abbey & Meredith and this note: Dear Meredith, Abbey arrived safely in heaven. Having the picture was a big help. I recognized Abbey right away. Abbey isn’t sick anymore. Her spirit is here with me just like it stays in your heart. Abbey loved being your dog. Since we don’t need our bodies in heaven, I don’t have any pockets to keep your picture in, so I am sending it back to you in this little book for you to keep and have something to remember Abbey by. Thank you for the beautiful letter and thank your mother for helping you write it and sending it to me. What a wonderful mother you have. I picked her especially for you. I send my blessings every day and remember that I love you very much. By the way, I’m easy to find, I am wherever there is love. Love, / God / ___ I personally believe all animals go to Heaven…. Re 5:9: And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation; Re 5:12: Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing. Re 5:13: And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever. / ____ I created this work using a photo I had taken of my sister-in-law’s pet rottweiler named Lady. I used Photoshop CS3 to merge the images with an image a statue of Jesus from the Huntington Library and a picture of clouds from Arizona. Finally, I edited the image with Micrografx and finished the work. Digitally enhanced. Lady was such a gentle sweetheart. She became ill from lukemia and eventully succombed to her illness. The beautiful thing is that my nieces had already come to the Lord berore this. This incident brought us all closer when we were able to show our family scripture to support our belief’s about animals being created to live forever. Images Do Not Belong To The Public Domain. • / / She Sells Sea Cards by the Sea Shore / A short story by iAN Derrick with illustrations by Karin Taylor (me)!! Karin’s storefront iAN’s storefront This has been an amazing experience to be a part of….an enormous thank you to Matt Mawson who has tirelessly and generously worked over the past 2 days to bring this little book into being….. I could never have done it without you Matt! And of course a huge thank you to the amazing writer and friend of mine, one of those great Aussie characters that just keeps on keeping on, keeps on getting better with age…. that is iAN Derrick I first met iAN through a journal Matt wrote about one of iAN’s books, and since that day, we sorta hit it off….. I talked to iAN about my father and he also was inspired to write another short story called Understanding Harry and correct me if i’m wrong, but i think he may have been inspired to write a story that reflected some of the goings on with Matt’s four legged friend also. One day I got an email from the amazing iAN, saying although he thought my father should be the one to tell and publish his own stories, he’d had a little idea and brought it to life in Understanding Harry and not long after this i received a second email saying that he’d done it again, but i would have to wait til the morning when he loaded the story to red bubble, and he and I and hubby all savoured the moment….....waiting with baited breath, until upon waking in the morning two days ago, I was thrilled to discover this wonderful story had been written. A story about my characters…involved a certain Mrs T….but i will tell you no more, as it’s a must read…and you can read it over here She Sells Sea Cards by the Sea Shore Thank you iAN and Thank you Matt i am eternally grateful

    by Karsten Stier

In this painting I have endeavored to reduce the landscape down to its absolute minimum, focusing purely on the line of salt-bush on the horizon, with one solitary bird hovering in the air, to give the impression of the raw empty heat of a mid day summer where nothing stirs until l the cool of the evening. . . • Sadako's Wish
    by Karin Taylor

    US$4.70–US$125.40

Sales of this Design? – 1 sale so far :) / / ‘Asia Series’ card by Karin Taylor This piece is imbued with a lot of heartfelt meaning. / Here is a painting I did in response to the story of Sadako. One day my daughter Sarah bought home a little sheet of paper with the story of Sadako on it and I was deeply moved by the tragic story of her life. You can read all about Sadako by googling her name or the story about the Thousand Paper Cranes. Just briefly though, Sadako was just a little baby when the atom bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, and by the age of 11 years she had lost her fight for life due to leukaemia, as a result of the radiation from the bomb. Sadako tried hard to be cheerful and dreamed of living a long life. A little friend of hers suggested that she make 1000 paper cranes, because as legend had it, doing this could make your dreams come true. Unfortunately, Sadako died, she was only able to make 600 cranes (please see Mui-Ling Teh’s comment below for more information), but her courageous effort and fighting spirit lives on in the hearts of everyone everywhere who hears her story of hope, faith and determination. / www.sadako.org/sadakostory.htm This picture is all about Sadako being taken up into heaven at the moment of her passing from this life to the next. There are a few symbols in this painting that represent different things. The camouflage on her dress represents wartime. The wings indicate Sadako has a heavenly body now, and you can see Sadako is actually affixing them to herself as she accepts her fate. The magic carpet is taking her up to heaven. The little doll is her companion in this life and the next, similar idea to the ancient egyptians who placed belongings of the deceased with them inside the pyramids for comfort in the next life, the circles in the background represent glowing light emanating from the black stars in the sky, guiding her way to her new destination. There is an air of both sadness and triumph…leaving this world is sad, but entering the next healed and whole is triumphant. This painting won a prize at an exhibition in Tweed Heads last year.

  • Caroussel Ride
    by amarica

    US$3.42–US$91.20

I took this shot several years ago at a theme park out in Riverside, California. I have always had a fascination with caroussel horses. There are so many varieties and styles that you never seem to run out of ways to show them. I captured this one with Ilford B&W film which can be processed in any single color you want…of course I chose sepia. Then I used Photomatix to obtain an HDR image. After that, I added the Orton effect to achieve a soft dreamy result. / _______ Today’s carousels are the proud inheritors of a rich history stretching back 1,500 years. The earliest known record of a carousel device is a Byzantine etching from 500 AD which portrays riders swinging in baskets tied to a center pole (the Byzantine Empire consisted of varying parts of present day Italy, Albania, Greece, Bulgaria, and Turkey from 395 AD to 1453 AD). Evidence of carousel-like activities in ancient Mexico and India has also been uncovered. More about the history of the caroussel Images Do Not Belong To The Public Domain.
