2007 Acrylic on three canvases 24×35 “Trike and Barrel” is an original, signed acrylic painting on three canvases by artist Michael Arnold. My entry for the Sound Competition A modern twist to music shaping the child’s mind in utero.

Please lead me to my future / As I count on you to guide / Hold my hand firm, but yet gently / So I may walk along beside / / Please don’t walk too fast before me / As I can not match your stride / And the distance it creates / May find our holding hands now pryed / / Please leave me not in darkness / As I fear what I can’t see / Be my beacon shining brightly / Illuminate those things for me / / Please pass to me your wisdom / As you’ve walked this path before / And secure with your knowledge / I am free to path explore / / Please teach me solid values / Love, peace, passion, and much more / And right way to use these tools / To leave world better than before / / Please lead me to my future / As I count on you to guide / So in the future when I look back / I’ll be filled with love and pride / / This digital painting was inspired by how different parent and child relationships have become since I was a child. When I was a child my parents always found time for me, irregardless of how busy their schedules may have been. It seems that today, parents have replaced parenting with electronic devices… just plug the child into a video game or throw on a DVD for them to watch. / / This is very sad, and is also very scary. To all you parents with young ones… remember that you are ultimately the sculptor and your child the clay. Never rationalize away your time with your children because you were to busy. Believe me… the time goes by very quickly, and you will regret not having spent that time when you look back. Take the time to read that book to them every night, or to take them for a walk in the woods to discover and appreciate the wonderful gifts that nature has given us. / / The stock resource for the hands came from a wonderful photo by Déz Magnér of Sweden. You can see the original photo on the stock.xchng website at the link I have provided below. I loved this photo, as it showed the rough hands of a hard working man gently cradling the one of the child. These roughened hands told a story in itself, of the sacrifices this man was willing to make to assure his child’s future. The poem in the artwork was written by me to reflect both my own thoughts, and the ones portrayed in the artwork. / / ‘Hands’ by Déz Magnér / http://www.sxc.hu/photo/1014136 / / The original is 4800×9600 pixels at 300 pixels per inch. It was created in Photoshop. Because the original is so large and difficult to see over the internet, I have included a couple of detail cutaways below. Both cutaway images are still reduced by 50%, due to the size of the original artwork. / / / / / /
