  Ok, ok first of all, everyone breath. Cool. Now let’s check. Melbourne experiencing four seasons in one day? Check. Shane Warne caught out again? Check. Running my own business continuing to be challenging? Check. Darren Stones steering the good ship RB around icebergs with a confident if not somewhat alcohol induced flourish? Check. Some people on some distant journal thread arguing about freedom of speech as if RB is the most vital instrument for world peace on earth. Whilst slandering, vilifying and taunting each other with racial, overworked cliches from behind psuedo names? Check. So nothing new or unusual about today then? Un check. What the… Check this… Today in seperate orders people have bought… 1 canvas print of shoe woman plus 20 cards of shoe woman 150 cards of mother & child 25 cards of Possibility II 25 cards of the congo skipping kids & a further 26 of these 20 cards of this beauty 5 cards of these guys 5 cards of these little ones 2 cards of this chap 2 cards of this dude 2 cards of this princess 5 cards of this piece of possibility and 2 cards of this beautiful, precious boy I don’t know anything much about freedom of speech, flags, philosophy or anything like the stuff that’s been going on here this week. But I’ll tell you all ONE VERY IMPORTANT THING. These purchases will save lives. These people live on less than a dollar a day. They live in slums, gutters and sheds made of flattened alluminium cans. The love, they laugh, they dream – they dodge bullets, they run as fast as they can from rapists usually unsuccessfully, they starve and they cry. Every cent of revenue goes to them and the brave souls who live in a war zone to help them. They couldn’t give a rats about flags, and virtual slanging matches. They live on the real edge. I didn’t cry once in Africa. Right now I am sitting here drowning in tears. Maybe change is possible? Even the tiniest bit?? Thanks RB – thanks whoever. Karin’s storefront iAN’s storefront This has been an amazing experience to be a part of….an enormous thank you to Matt Mawson who has tirelessly and generously worked over the past 2 days to bring this little book into being….. I could never have done it without you Matt! And of course a huge thank you to the amazing writer and friend of mine, one of those great Aussie characters that just keeps on keeping on, keeps on getting better with age…. that is iAN Derrick I first met iAN through a journal Matt wrote about one of iAN’s books, and since that day, we sorta hit it off….. I talked to iAN about my father and he also was inspired to write another short story called Understanding Harry and correct me if i’m wrong, but i think he may have been inspired to write a story that reflected some of the goings on with Matt’s four legged friend also. One day I got an email from the amazing iAN, saying although he thought my father should be the one to tell and publish his own stories, he’d had a little idea and brought it to life in Understanding Harry and not long after this i received a second email saying that he’d done it again, but i would have to wait til the morning when he loaded the story to red bubble, and he and I and hubby all savoured the moment….....waiting with baited breath, until upon waking in the morning two days ago, I was thrilled to discover this wonderful story had been written. Your gentle presence in my life here, oh how much I have felt with your Red Hair Goddess nature.   Following the many comments of my original picture of “Mother’s Love”, I thought I experiment a little. I dont have the photoshop skill thus Melinda Kerr’s involvment in this (thanks mel!). I did basic changes, cropping, making it black and white and Melinda did the high tech stuff. Mother’s Love – the original Mother’s Love 2 – black and white cropped version Mother’s Love 3 – colour cropped version Mother and child – Melinda’s Version the comments have been most interesting and it made me look into these images more. I like one or more aspect of the each versions of this image. I thank you all for your input especially for melinda who had put in lots of effort. However, after looking at these for the last few days. I have to say, personally my favourite was the original one. What I love about it was that it was unaltered. It was the raw emotion against the bold blue colour. The vibrancy of colourful african dresses makes it feels simple and genuine. The empty wall and the old rag at the back just make the emotion more meaningful. As if to say that nothing is more valuable then this bond between this child and her mother. As if to say that It does not matter that She has nothing of value around her because the most valuable thing she has is in her hands. The softness of this love is more appreciated against the bold colours and the bold pattern of her dress. It has been a rather educational exercise for me. I think it is interesting to learn about what people likes and dislike and how people interpret an image. So thank you for all your respond. This picture is very special to me.

  I am sure some, or most of you would like to know a little more about me, so I thought I would give you all a little insight to understanding me! / So here goes, / I was born in a small town about 26 years ago…..... / Sorry, just kidding with that! / Seriously though, I love photgraphy and poetry. They are my two biggest passions, after my hubby of course! / I started writing poetry when I was only 12. All of my writing, to start, was very dark and sad. I quarentee if I posted my earlier writing it will bring a tear to your eye, if it doesn’t make you ball your eyes out. / I have been told that I can be closely related to Edgar Alan Poe, occasionally Robert Frost, and sometimes even Emily Dickinson. That is cool to me because they are actually my favorite 3 poets. / Recently, I found out how to write more passionately. More about love without death in it. / Since I started writing, I was told to write about what I know. most 12 year old in my class wrote about family, toys, games, occasionally love, pretty much children stuff. / I shocked my teacher when I wrote a tearful poem about a girl in World War 2 who was taken to a camp far from her family. / I shortly began writing about death and suicide and anything that pretty much was horrifying to those protected by a plastic bubble. (Though we are all safe on this bubble, we all express our true selves within this bubble. That’s why you all rock here!) / So if I post anything that may seem dark or scary, it is not my state of mind but just what I grew up around. More recenlty it has been love. So you should be safe for a while, at least until I find my earlier writing! When I was about 8 or 9, I was given a camera and asked to take a few shots of the family. It was an instant addiction! / I went to Vancouver, B.C. when I was 15, and learned how to snap shots that were absolutely postcard perfect! (Although here, you don’t see it as much because I do not get around to all of those places. Someday soon, I will be posting my younger years photos for you all to see!) / I was told so many times how beautiful my photgraphs were. So it was almost better than writing about death because I was capturing life for everyone to see. And when people had seen my photos, they did not cry. That was gratifying for me. I have always believed in expressing your true self wether it is in photos or words. If you feel bad, grab a camera and go for a walk. If you feel happy in love, grab a notepad and begin writing. (Although I did it slightly backwards!) If I make you feel joy or arousal from my writing, then that is awesome. If I make you feel sorrow or anger from my writing, well then again I did what I was trying to do. / If my photos scare you or make you laugh or be in total awe, then I am doing something right. If my photos make you think I can do better and am not doing what you think I can do, well then let me know. I can take the criticism! I also would like to let you know that with my writing, it is not always the way I truely feel when I post it. Some, yes, but pertaining to anything I write about death or pain or betrayal, it is just something that I knew best as a child and as a teen. Now, I only know what it is like to be surrounded by love. (I just like my dark poetry because it was the best writing I ever produced!) / I hope this helps anyone who may have had questions about my personality.

  Hello all my dear friends I have missed you all so much and have a lot of catching up to do! I’m so sorry I haven’t been here to comment on all your wondrous works and writing, trust me it’s not because I didn’t want to!!! These last few months have been a very trying time in my life and my family’s life we have gone through quite a bit. I have a beautiful 14yr daughter whom I love more than life, which I’m certain any mother would feel the same. Anyways our nightmare started about 3 months ago I lost my job after 6 yrs of putting up with crap that most people wouldn’t and not to mention busting my but!!! After that my daughter ended up missing she sneaked out 1 night to meet up with some friends that didn’t show and then met the wrong person a predator!! This person held her against her will drugged her among other things!! I feel so angry inside!!! I have done everything a good parent would do and should do to raise her children right ? I don’t understand what I did wrong to let this happen, but it did!! The police have not been very helpful in fact after she had been missing for over a wk. and broad-casted over the news she was found by a neighbor who saw her at a casino downtown. NEVER EVER THINK IT WON’T HAPPEN TO YOU !!! I would have never in a million yrs thought I would be on the news begging for my child’s safe return home! I’m a good mother I have 4 beautiful children and would do anything including hurt anyone who would harm them. I think children are the most precious creations given to humankind a gift from God himself. If you are a parent I beg you right now go hug and kiss your child just because you want to just because you care just because you may not have that chance again !!! I got so lucky getting my child back these people had plans to take her out of the country ! Go hold your child and let them know you love them let them know you care about how their day went, your child will never be to old to accept a hug or kiss. Well that’s what has been going on in my life, now you know ! It’s been a battle but I’m winning this one no matter what!! I wanted to share this with you so if you have a child you will think about the things I have gone through and remember it can happen to you!! I hope it don’t but it can !! It hurts like hell and I didn’t go into all the details but you don’t ever want to have to deal with this and I hope you don’t ever have to! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE GO HUG YOUR CHILD!! I miss you all and think I will be getting back on here more often now, If you left me a comment and I didn’t thank you please understand I appreciate all your kindness and support. Samantha R.

  Hey thanks Peter and everyone for putting my and Rebecca Zachariah’s work on the home page. / / I just want to say two things. First of all Rebecca deserves most of the praise. (I just helped with post processing). She took the shot in Rwanda when we were travelling over there. It was the shot of the trip as far as I’m concerned. Better than any of my 3,000. Yes 3,000! / The other thing is, the guys at RB and I haven’t always agreed. They’ve put up with some complaints from me. (Is that a groan I hear from you Peter!) But they have ALWAYS answered respectfully and honestly. Allowing us to agree to disagree or whatever and move on. / I just want to say publicly I really rate that. / So thanks. / And then to follow up by putting this shot on the home page is awesome. Because for me and Bec the whole purpose is about the causes we’re so passionate about. / So thanks guys. Kudos to you and kudos to Rebecca. / Peace.
