I originally intended this shot to be a picture of my son holding onto these balloons and taking off, floating into up into the sky … a fantasy, sotybook sort of image. However, my daughter immediately grabbed these balloons from him and started running off. So, as it turned out this eded up having a more realistic look than the one I originally intended, but I thought it turned out pretty cute with the desaturated colors throughout, except for the colorful balloons. This is the unframed version without a quote attached. There have been requests for this version. Captive “The youth, intoxicated with his admiration of a hero, fails to see, that it is only a projection of his own soul, which he admires.” Ralph Waldo Emerson Who is you’re hero? / / Name: Panthera tigris sumatrae (Sumatran Tiger) Description: The Sumatran tiger has the darkest coat of all tigers. Its broad, black stripes are closely spaced and often doubled. Unlike the Siberian tiger, it has striped forelegs. Sumatran tigers are the smallest tiger subspecies. Males average 2.4 meters (8 feet) in length from head to tail and weigh about 120 kilograms (264 pounds). Females measure approximately 2.2 meters (7 feet) in length and weigh about 90 kilograms (198 pounds). Distribution: The Sumatran tiger is found only on the Indonesian island of Sumatra in habitat that ranges from lowland forest to submontain and montain forest with some peat-moss forest. Biology: The Sumatran tiger eats wild pig, big deer (called rusa), and small deer (called muntjak or barking deer). The specific range size of this tiger is not know, however the population density is approximately 4–5 adult tigers/100 km 2 (39 mile 2) in optimal lowland rainforest. As elevation increases through submontain and montain forests, the number of tigers in any given area decreases because there is less prey available. Status in the wild: 400-500 wild Sumatran tigers were believed to exist in 1998, primarily in the island’s national park areas, but no island-wide census or monitoring system has been possible. Tiger numbers have continued to decline because of poaching of tigers to supply the illegal trade in tiger parts. The last remnants of lowland forest are being eliminated to establish oil palm plantations and for shifting agriculture by recent settlers from other areas of Sumatra and Indonesia. Ongoing road development makes many formerly inaccessible mountain areas accessible to illegal logging even on the steepest slopes, and many mountainous areas are being converted into plantations for coffee and other products for international markets. Tigers are legally protected but are not highly valued. Captive breeding: For three years, the Indonesian Zoological Parks’ Association (PKBSI) has been working with the Tiger Global Conservation Strategy to develop a conservation program for Sumatran tigers. In addition to the 65 Sumatran tigers living in Indonesian zoos, there are 55 tigers managed by North American zoos, 100 in European zoos, and 12 in Australasian zoos. This captive population is descended from 37 wild-caught founders. The Indonesian Sumatran Tiger Masterplan now has the potential to function as the heart of the Sumatran tiger population worldwide. It is designed to preserve sufficient genetic diversity to reinforce both captive and wild populations, thus fulfilling its goal to ensure that the in situ tiger program comprises verifiable founders permanently identified and registered in the Indonesian Sumatran Tiger Studbook. It also extends the capabilities of Indonesian zoo staff to professionally manage their tiger programs in Indonesia, and at the same time serves as a model for other range country tiger management programs in Southeast Asia.

... ” Our lives are made in these small hours, in these little wonders. These twists and turns of fate. Time falls away, but these small hours.. these small hours still remain…” Excerpt from the Song “Little Wonders” by Rob Thomas. This song always makes me think of my son, who is walking along the beach in this shot.

This was taken in a dark room, with just enough daylight to highlight the feet. I opened the curtains a little just to allow the natural daylight in. My wife was holding Eli as I took the shot using a Tripod and remote . 100% of all proceeds from sale of all my art goes toward our Charity Projects in Deep Rural Africa. PLEASE READ THIS. I am an Irish born Missionary and photographer. My passion in life is to help as many children living in extreme poverty in remote and rural villages of Africa and India. My compassion and inspiration is from Gods great love for the suffering children. Taken in Tunga/Zuga village, Kebbe State, Remote Nigeria. As I was looking through some photographs stored on my Camera storage card, I came across Alfred, and It brought me back to the time I met thisboy. His Father and Mother were killed in a road accident, the precious day. His grandfather took Alfred to his little hut and there we found him. My passion and inspiration to help these precious people is from a heart of love and Gods commission to go and help those poor who suffer alone and in silence. This was their only child, and this is rare in African Culture. There are so many like Alfred, and I really mean many. The carers struggle to feed them, and the survival rate of Orphans are very low. There are no orphanages in Tunga/Zuga or indeed in The Kebbe state, except one small run down orphanage. I believe it is better to equip and help the existing carers to look after these children, where possible. But in saying that we do need to bud and run an orphanage where the carers are not capable of caring for them. Please Pray that God will bless us in helping many. We need your Prayers and finance to do this. Ask God how you can help, and you will not only be blessed, but be a blessing to Alfred and many like him. Another entry from my leather moleskin journal. This was a reflection on how we’ve all got so many untold stories. I don’t want to go to my grave without passing on my stories that are worth passing on especially if there’s a chance those stories could affect or help another in any positive way. The same goes for my whole family…. I don’t want them passing without me finding out their important untold stories. I still don’t know half as much as I’d like to know about my Grandfather’s prisoner of war days and he passed many a year ago. So that story is with my Dad now and once he’s gone the story will be too. Perhaps I’ll sit down with Dad soon and write it all down? And then there’s so many of my own personal stories that only I, myself know. One’s that Im’ just not ready to share with another yet… whether emotional, physical or spiritual I just can’t put them out there just yet. I am sure one day though I’ll probably be ready to share them. What untold stories do you have that you’d like to make sure get passed on before you die?
/ Mother & Child Reunion / No I would not give you false hope / On this strange and mournful day / But the mother and child reu-nion / Is only a motion away, oh, little darling of mine. / I cant for the life of me / Remember a sadder day / I know they say let it be / But it just dont work out that way / And the course of a lifetime runs / Over and over again No I would not give you false hope / On this strange and mournful day / But the mother and child reu-nion / Is only a motion away, oh, little darling of mine. I just cant believe its so, / And though it seems strange to say / I never been laid so low / In such a mysterious way / And the course of a lifetime runs / Over and over again The whales were a part of painted wall in town here and the ocean shot was taken from my workplace in Port Hardy, BC on Vancouver Island.
