A young, very photogenic hill-tribe girl in Sapa, Vietnam.
A little girl and her day-to-day chore of collecting sticks and wood. I presume to be used for fire wood. This scene was captured about 1km walk from the mountain town of Sapa in northern Vietnam.
A shot taken just before the moon set. The girl is a rural child waiting for the school bus. / 1549 Views – 500+ Views Group

b&w version per request / original: / This was taken on my parent’s back porch on a Friday evening. Fridays are “family night” and generally the kids play outside but it was raining so my niece was watching the rain fall. I said her name and when she looked I took this photo. So that’s the story behind the title. :)

/ “Now available as a LARGE print” Sales of this Design? – 3 sales so far :) / / Girl on Red Wall is from the ‘Asia Series’ of cards by Karin Taylor Girl on Red Wall is a mixed media production on canvas textured paper utilising ink, pastel, charcoal and acrylic in the rendering. It was a fun piece that has been popular, the original has already been sold to a doctor in Queensland, and prints requested overseas. It’s funny, the paintings you don’t think will be popular, are the ones that receive the most interest sometimes. I have grown to love Girl on Red Wall very much, and would now like to share her with you

This is one of my favorite and best drawings. It was done in charcoal and I would estimate that it took roughly 5 hours to draw. The referece photo was taken with permission from here. http://ssuunnddeeww.deviantart.com/

/ / A little bit of nostalgia running through this drawing, with the good old love beads, i always love wearing love beads, and I still have some which are orange and lime … and another strand of blue and white. You can wear them so many different ways. The image was drawn in pencil on cartridge paper in my A3 spiral bound art journal and after photographing I coloured her digitally on the computer. Before I took the photo I actually painted her ‘love beads’ with acrylics and inks…and i stuck a fimo flower on her beads, which i made for another application, and then painted it naples yellow with a white centre.

Summer Breeze a beautiful poem by the same title by a dear friend of mine Anne Van Alkemade / Inspired by the song Summer Breeze / by Seals and Croft Also inspired by myself and my experience of having bugs and insects come to try and take up residence in my ears… scrabbling around in there, getting all comfy…while I’m going crazy…click beetles, houseflies and spiders so far have all tried this… lol This is a girl who has an affinity with nature, and as the summer breezes begin to blow here in Australia…....the animals are drawn to live in her hair thinking that it must be branches of a tree… yes, my hair’s that dry… :) I thought it a fitting one for summer, hope you like her… Pencil drawing took me about 3 hours / Digital colouring – 10 hours / Total time 13 hours
/ / Best viewed large / / Detail / Self Portrait for the Happy Challenge in which you have to rate yourself on a scale from 1-10 (1 being seriously depressed, 10 being the happiest) and then create self-portrait expressing that state. Any artistic medium/technique is allowed. Hmmm I’m thinking glass half full at the moment, and enjoying all the colours of the rainbow in Inner Child, so i shall rate myself as a reserved 7.0… the painting is a reflection of myself at my most peaceful, daydreaming as I tend to do often…. The painting began as a pencil drawing on cardboard, using chalk pastels and charcoal to lightly fill in the flesh tones, finished off the piece adding to it digitally in Photoshop. / Here it is prior to photoshop. / The portrait looks quite serious, which is translating as sadness, and I can see what everyone’s saying.. but I was happy at the time. The Challenge is now open for entries. Voting starts in 20 days.
Sixth artwork in my new Wonderland series, based off of Lewis Carroll’s “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” ”`Well!’ thought Alice to herself, `after such a fall as this, I shall think nothing of tumbling down stairs! How brave they’ll all think me at home! Why, I wouldn’t say anything about it, even if I fell off the top of the house!’ (Which was very likely true.) – “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” Original artwork measures approx. 12.5×19” and was created with oil pastels, colored pencils, metaliic silver pens, and marker. This is a scan of the image, so you can’t see the silver highlights on this piece (they look gray in the scan) through Alice’s hair and dress. View more of my artwork at www.lynnetteshelley.com
Steer II (Missy Higgins) / / Pencil drawing, digital colouring The Golden Elephant – story and art by Karin Taylor / A long long time ago in a tropical land where the papaya grow wild and free, there lived a golden elephant who’s beauty was unsurpassed. All the creatures were mesmerised by what appeared to be the sun entering the water when she swam and when she walked on the land everyone stepped aside, as elephants were revered. Legend has it, the golden elephant was once a beautiful warrior princess. Once, in midst of of a terrible battle with her enemy about to take her life, she made a wish that she could become an elephant, for then no harm would come to her. The beautiful warrior princess was granted her wish, tho could sadly not return to her human form, and so it was that the golden elephant lived forever, bringing warmth and light wherever she went. During the darkest nights when the stars hid and the moon disappeared, the beautiful golden elephant shone like the sun, lighting the way for pilgrims on their journey. Although very happy she got what she wished for, the golden elephant found herself still thinking the grass was sometimes greener on the other side. Indeed she would have liked to be human again. But she accepted her new role and did the best she could with her gift of light.
