  • “That little bird has chosen his shelter. Above it are the stars and the deep heaven of worlds. Yet he is rocking himself to sleep without caring for tomorrow’s lodging, calmly clinging to his little twig, and leaving God to think for him.” ~Martin Luther I love chickadee’s. We have them here where I live and they are energetic little acrobats. They come to my bird feeders all the time. If you sit real still they will come close to you. I had them sit on my drawing pad last summer while I drew them. They were being my feathered models.

  • 1433 views as of Nov. 10, 2009 Challenge Winner – Birds in Flight, #12 Great Features Group There aren’t many things that bring me more joy than the companionship of the Black-Capped Chickadees that inhabit the woods behind our home. They visit us daily, and follow me along the trail whenever I go for a walk. I could be 3 property lines over and they will still follow me! It is not unusual for them to land on the end of my camera lens as I’m trying to frame a photo, or flutter around my legs, looking for their sunflower seeds. These little songbirds bring me more joy than I can ever truly express. What a gift they are! I would be filled with great sadness if they ever disappeared. They are a huge part of my passion for nature & wildlife photography and for capturing the beauty that surrounds us everywhere. This image was created by merging 2 of my chickadee in flight photos and then blending the sky together. Original images taken on my property in Prince Edward County, Ontario, Canada. / / / More Chickadee Photos / View Renee Dawson’s Gallery / Image included in the CHICKADEE CALENDAR

  • Featured in Digital Art Compilations November 17, 2008 – thank you! I wanted to portray, as best I could, who I really am. I’m simply a country girl with an incredible passion for nature and wildlife. When outside my eyes and ears are always open – wondering what new adventures and beauty this day will bring. This is my field of dreams – my happy place. That place one goes each night when they close their eyes and wander off into peaceful slumber. Although this image is a merge of 3, actually having the chickadees that close to me is not at all far fetched! A relationship I value and reap great joy from. Portrait credit goes to my Mother-Lynda McDonald for taking the original portrait with my Canon for me. I then layered in 2 separate chickadee images to complete this piece. / Bird Gallery / Portraits – Digital Photo paintings / ADD RENEE TO YOUR WATCHLIST

After a very long winter (so far) I needed something that sang Spring time is just around the corner! After a lot of fuss, and several hours, in Photoshop and Painter X this is the final result. Every pixel of this piece was re-painted (digitally) by hand. All of the apple blossoms and leaves were created from scratch. As a final touch I added some texture to the piece to give it that last little edge I was looking for. • Best viewed larger Featured in Snow Glorious Snow October 19, 2009. An adorable little Black Capped Chickadee perched on my deck railing, braving the snow and ice on a February afternoon in 2008. I named this image in honor of my friend, Renee Dawson who loves Black capped Chickadees dearly, and who also coined the phrase. Her chickadee images are beyond compare!!! I just thought this little guy looked a bit “kerflustered” on this cold winter’s day!! Image taken with the Nikon D40x and the 55-200mm vr Nikon lens at 190mm focal length. Shutter 1/320, aperture f/5.6, exp. 0.00, iso 800. I hand-painted the entire bird in Corel Paint 11 and created and added the snow layer in Photoshop. Texture layer from Skeletal Mess at Deviant Art added in Photoshop. The following information is from What Bird.com Overview / Black-capped Chickadee: Medium-sized, stocky chickadee with pale gray upperparts and breast and pale olive-brown underparts.
