Taken in Kamakura during cherry blossom season. Japanese people love to watch the beautiful spring flowers and have picnics under the blossoms. In the background you can see the temple entrance and at the bottom a glimpse of a woman wearing a Kimono. !

This last weekend marked the 28th anniversary of the Sakura Matsuri, / (Cherry blossom Festival) which was the “rite of spring” here at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. This program, a lifeblood to the Japanese community both here and abroad, exposed me to these most beautiful trees as well as various other programs and events such as group drumming (Taiko), and Samurai Sword performances, among others. The food was delicious, the sake flowed freely (but not into me—unfortunately), the drumming was exciting and now all are memories / until next year. ________ Featured in Blooming Trees-May 2009

When I see cherry blossoms or (in this case) Japanese cherryblossoms, I always think of my childhood and youth.
