A few miles passed Tortilla Flats, which is outside of Apache Junction, Arizona, this wonderful little oasis pops into view, part of Salt River. Although it is nearly Christmas, the vibrant yellow foliage remains. / Shot with Olympus Stylus 720SW auto, handheld.

Eric (the human) and Vince (the 140 lb Great Dane) share / some one on one time. Vince is such a cuddle bug. / Funny thing is, they weren’t posing. I found / them this way! (My husband and our dog) I had to act quickly for this shot and it ended up / being underexposed – all my other shots / were blurry. So to help compensate, I added / the slight blue hue and posterized the edges just / a tad and added very little glow. / ©Chelsea Nikolaus

An old abstract fingerpainting in acrylic.
Model is Chelsea Rose / Makeup and Hair by Loran Bean / Assistant: Adam People seem to like when I say how I get my shots, so I will keep up with it! We went to the roof of a shopping centre carpark to shoot this series. It was WHITE, it was HOT, it was windy and it was…EXTREMELY HOT! We now all look like beetroots, we’re so red. I made the mistake of lying down on the HOT CONCRETE for about 10 mins for this shot. :( But it was worth it! I have been told it looks like she’s very high up. But she’s not really! All lighting is natural, no reflectors were used. And as always, comments are always appreciated. xo / Rose
I’ve never met a baby that smiles so much! She’s such a little doll :)))
Male zebra. Funny thing is, / he was having a tinkle / when he was making this / face! / Canon Powershot / ©Chelsea Nikolaus /
Part of the Arizona Canyon series, this shot was taken at a slightly different angle; attempting to frame those lovely colors in the reflection. The stream slows here, making it so wonderfully calm and serene. / /
Fun w/ colored pencils!

This shot was one of the last in the day. ‘Chelsea, get in the trolly!’ I make my models do very uncomfortable things sometimes. What’s the worst thing you have made someone do in order to get the best photo? I want to hear your stories :D And as always, comments are always appreciated. xo / Rose
/ Chelsea is a pencil drawing coloured digitally / I created this whilst on an island holiday recently where I drew for hours on end. / I really loved the feel of this particular drawing, and her character….not the prettiest little girl….but such an interesting little face, and funny shaped body emerged :) /

Brompton Cemetery taken back in 1999.
I layered the original photo under the b & w version on the computer- then just used the erasing tool to reveal the pink on the tongue below. This one was also cropped.
