This was a commissioned work for a play in which an old black man plays the devil for his soul. The hardest part was figuring out a checkmate (by the devil), but this man believes in the LORD and if one knows chess, you will see that he has a move out of checkmate in which he actually is able to put the devil in checkmate. / The man who posed for this is actually a chess player on the chess board and in the spiritual realm as well.

Not really “checkmate,” but you know, just trying to make it interesting. :)
Inspired to pull out the chess set by the writing competition in the Short Stories group, Checkmate.
Another in my series of photos depicting Atlanta’s Icons. The King and Queen Towers, as they are known locally if unofficially, are actually part of the suburban landscape, visible from both the I-285 perimeter and Georgia 400 expressway, they stand in the city of Sandy Springs. They have the distinction of being the tallest suburban buildings in the USA.
Photoshop work, created out of image below, only outside sources were used for the sky. Was tricky to rebuild the empty fields out of this filled chessboard. Hope you like it!

I wasn’t sure if I should have called this pawnography. I saved that for pictures of the individual squares.

My son borrowed me his chess set and I had some fun! / /
Split Lighting setup…key light camera left, chess accent light with blue gel below the table pointing up. While on the way to Steve’s house to practice some portrait lighting, I had this concept pop into my head. I asked Steve if he had a glass chess set and a glass table. Surprisingly he said he did, and shortly after my idea came to life. This is 1 of my 2 good shots from the concept.
