If there is an explanation for this, I suppose it is that I tend to be more of a whole-brained thinker. I know it’s hard to tell, but, even when I have only half a mind, I am still using 1/4 of each side lol So, I love the softness, disorder, wafting things .. and I love the rigid lines, order, mathematics of a well formed cube, etc. I tend to love them best, together, bouncing from one thing to the other. I suppose this is what also makes me an extremist, and it is not, after all, my Scottish ancestry. Which is fine by me, as, to the best of my knowledge, I haven’t any Scottish ancestry, so I amn’t sure why people would think that was the cause of it. Oh, sure, there is that whole ‘Peace or War’ thing, but, hey: who died and made them the Quibble Sheriffs of the world? No, seriously. I want to know: who? Back to reality, my main point is that I had nothing in mind, particularly, upon the creation of this, but such things as “Oh my, this would look good near this, if it could intersect just so and be colored like thus!” Some things were painting, some things were copied images utilized in layers, some things were done by mask, etc. All of it was oodles and oodles of fun and I shall, yes, stare at it off and on and be in awe of it and wish I could create something half so lovely. I know .. I did. Tell me that!

Famous optical illusion; can you see the red dots?
Watching carefully they play checkers, but which is smarter? The elephant, the monkey or the Platypus, that swum off to get the beers? The first of my notepad series
My kitchen floor tiles, with my metal bin reflecting them on the right of the photo. Taken at night time, with relatively bright light casting a shadowy area on the bins reflection. Slight adjustment of the contrast and brightness in post processing, to give the yellow to red tint, across the darker areas of the photo. I originally really wanted this photo to be in black and white, but the many imperfections on the floor took away from the starkness. Choosing colour instead allowed me to work the scratches and marks into the scene, making it look slightly angry or dangerous to a certain level. Maybe this photo represents my frustration at the game of chess, and my lack of patience to ever play a full game! Featured in Metallic Junktion Canon SX100IS MCN:CE5BF-C1FC2-22477
My gorgeous late kitty cat… / not guilty at all :) / no evidence here :)
Found in Bayou George, FL. They perch like this when it is cool.
Created with Photoshop CS3, 5 July 2009.
Taken with a Canon 50D, Tamron 90mm lens, F4, shutter speed 1/1250 second ISO200, edited in Photoshop I visited my local bird of prey centre yesterday to pay a visit to the Eagle owl we sponsor called Checkers. The guys and gals at the centre are wonderfully welcoming and as you can imagine very dedicated. The centres primary role is to recover and heal injured birds of prey that are found in the wild, the centre manager showed me a little owl that had a broken wing and swelled up eye that they had just recovered and were nursing back to health. The centre is well worth a visit if you are ever in the area; Turbary Woods bird of prey centre Please view large
Isn’t it interesting that simple, basic pastimes unite people of all races, creeds and backgrounds? Last year, on the tropical island of Langkawi, Malaysia, I noticed four men playing draughts (or checkers, as some of you know it) in the open air, so I walked over and asked if I could take some photographs. They nodded, happy to give me permission, and asked me where I was from. As I replied, I noticed one of them had his hand resting near the board, in preparation for a strategic move. Only then did I realise that there was dark tape (probably electrical tape, because it was fairly thick and wide) marking the boundary of their makeshift “board” on the white table. You can see other images from this unposed sequence on my blog I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my images in any way. Shot with a Pentax K100D, using a Sigma18-125mm lens.
