I have been asked by many how to do selective colouring on images, so here is a quick method for doing it. / / The method I use is a simple two step process / / Open the image and turn it greyscale – click the word Image [up the top menu] then – mode then greyscale / / Click ok to the message that pops up asking to discard colour channels [Those are the red, green and blue channels that make your image colour] Now – you have a mono image with all the colour discarded – You cannot select colour if its all been discarded – so we need to put it back. / / Go back to image [up top] – mode and hit RGB – the image will stay mono, but is actually a colour image [with no colour] / / Hit the history brush in the toolbar in the left and paint back where you want the colour. Adjust the size of your brush as required. / / For more subtle effects, turn the brush opacity down – but remember when using low opacity – you must paint in one stroke, without releasing the mouse. / / thats it – yep – really simple eh / / A variation on this is for example, where you want to use this method on a forest scene – impossible to paint back in or select to colour by different methods. So after making the image greyscale, turning it back to RGB and selectiing your history brush – set the brush to a very large size with a zero hardness setting. Find a place on the image where you would like to see colour and click the brush there once. The result is a really nice graduated colour effect at the point where you wanted it to appear – awesome. / / Good luck all – have fun with it, and let me know how you get on – perhaps link your images here. / / Jul

Cheating is no way to win but if you can get away with it do it. Especially if there’s money on the table. Beware though because you never know what somebody will have under the table. Besides their legs.

This is not tested in other browsers™—I don’t recommend trying it with any browser except Firefox. Even in Firefox, it will possibly do bad things (otherTM). I use Firefox 2, but it should work the same in other versions. Creating the bookmarklet Because redbubble cares about you, it’s not possible to make this a no-brainer on this site. You need to create the bookmark yourself. Right-click on the bookmark toolbar, or on your open bookmarks list, and choose ‘New Bookmark’. But first, copy the javascript code below into your clipboard! It’s all one, very long line, you should be able to double-click on it to select it for copying. It takes a little while to get started, sorry there is no visual feedback until it gets going! The slideshow will start from the current page you are viewing, and loop over the entire collection. You can exit at any time by clicking on the current image, which will take you to the favorites page which contains that image. Weeeeeeeee! UPDATED 2008-10-20 Now it shows t-shirt images as well as wall-art.

Wow, controversy on the Bubble. The winner of the b&w section in the real photo comp has been found to be a fraud! / And now more questions are being asked. / Namely, why did some people win when their shots weren’t up for sale. / I have a suggestion and I’d love to know people’s thoughts. / I am not saying anyone has cheated (apart from the one RB has caught). However a cynic might say people don’t put things up for sale when they don’t have a high res enough pic. Why not ask all those who have won something to supply a high res version of their photo. If they took it, it shouldn’t be a problem. I am not trying to stir up trouble. But I do think RB should institute the rules as they were set out. Just to be fair to those concerned.
