Spiritually Charged - Amber Elizabeth Fromm

In the current wave of artist’s interviews, here’s another that crests at the top and rolls forward toward the sands of Redbubble. A short while ago I had the honour of encountering Amber in the bubble. The first I’d ever really heard of Amber was a portrait posted on another member’s profile. I remember asking him who the lovely was. She wasn’t then a part of Redbubble, and I’m not privvy to what it took to get her here, but I’m thoroughly glad she was convinced to join us. Here is one poet and artist whose work never fails to move the emotional string within the heart – every poem, line by line, weaves it’s message through the reader; from head to heart. One of my personal favourites is this piece. Let me introduce you to Amber: How did you arrive at Redbubble I actually was trying to bond with my significant other Joseph A. Donais aka the dreadfulbride (he is so gifted see here) I thought I could post a poem or two for I had written a few pieces for him … such as “Melt Like Butter” and I thought it would make a nice gift and, surprise, figured since he was a frequent bubbler “if you couldn’t beat them (you darn bubblers) then lets see what it this Red Bubble is about” and joined it – and been hooked ever since. It is a magical place; truly it is… How does your creativity affect other aspects of your life? My creativity affects many aspects of my life, I have an analytical mind, sometimes hard to switch gears and can be a problem … with this seeking nature my creativity often comes out with new solutions to old problems … I search for light at the end of the tunnel and sometimes the simple thought is our best path. I am a flint stone …I look for new ways of looking at life I feel I have a multi-dimensional focus and I see out there. I see myself as a spirit seeking spiritual enlightenment, deeper knowledge and seeking inner peace and spiritual improvement within myself first and in our world… and keeping it simple generally works best for me. How many mediums do you work in? Which is your favourite, and why? I work in many mediums from flowers to tambourines… lyrics to chord, and vocal to instrumentation and paint to ink. I used to think my favorite medium was music but I now believe that word, art, music, sculpture and any and all mediums can touch the soul equally and as powerful. An example of contrasts a silent picture to an overt message can be beautiful. So I have no favorite medium. Tell us about one person or moment that has made your time on redbubble particularly special This is really hard – to choose just one, so hopefully you’ll bear with me. To put it to one person and one inspirational moment I would have to say working with Cate Townsend She is a truly wonderful artist (check her out or you’ll be missing something). I believe she bubbled me in the middle of our collaboration and told me she was so spirit filled with compassion and empathy in our collaboration of Stolen Child that she felt she had to stop from her heart breaking, the work had consumed her… This moment I was filled with a deeper compassion and understanding… of true art and true spirit … for the message we were carrying I have never felt so deeply about any other work or with any other artist in collaboration and I wrote her Standing In the Whispers. I was inspired to comfort her and my spirit and encompassed in the work it was of truly spiritual nature a beautiful release and experience. Show & tell: What three works or people on redbubble have moved or inspired you? I will list a I am pushing my favorite works and artists please allow me “Breaking Free” by Sean Farragher / He is a truly gifted photographer and artist Breaking Free This represents to me the darkness of our spirit breaking free and I am a person who is in recovery… I always have to watch my darkness; she lingers… Solareclips aka Julie Her beautiful spirit shines in showing us God’s creation, however small, in a new and wondrous light… Wonderful Bonita – bamagirl38 The spiritual cheerleader of the bubble. Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled… seeing this piece always give me peace and joy in spirit… and heart Leah Hyland and her so talented work Metamorphosis I love changing and growing spiritually for the better and this piece represents that to me in it’s entirety. Raven Soul – her magically dark pieces allow us to see what is in us all check out Despair And finally Shree who is entirely unique in style and pre vision of spirit and practicing the Golden Rule in his walk – this is another wonderful piece Please check these artists out and their beautiful spirits!!!! / Thank you for asking me to do this I truly feel grateful and flattered.

I was thinking today, as i looked at what sales iv made… how much should images be “marked up” all mine are at a 25% markup atm, but i did some maths and on the sale of 15 cards over my time at redbubble the profit amounts to about $9… mabey im just ungrateful and this is a good profit to have made, but for something that sells for like $2.50 a 63c profit feels kinda low… so yer, / how much do you like to mark up ur images… is 25% to much? to little? / what do yall think?? Ps. sorry if my spelling is bad…

Hey everyone, Firstly many apologies for being scarce of late, I have that many things going on right now I must laugh, because the other option is a padded room and a straight jacket, with afternoon Scrabble tournaments in the Games Room. The major project I am working on at the moment is doing a shoot for the Tarkine Wilderness lodge. So far it has been a piece of cake, they will be ordering most products from RedBubble which makes it ever so easy for me (OH THANKYOU REDBUBBLE GODS!) However, they have now asked me to do the photos for their website. How do I charge them for this? I know that I can sign over copyright for a fee, or even partial copyright but what is the going price for these sorts of services? Are their any resources I can turn to (aside from you, my wonderful readers)? PLEASE HELP!!! Yours in grateful anticipation / xxx I have to fly to do the whole dinner/bath/pj’s thing with the kids but I’ll be back later to see if anyone has been able to help me out.

I just wanted to ask the opinion of some fellow redbubblers on a payment related topic. A few weeks ago I received an email from a lady who had found my portfolio on Redbubble and liked my work. She explained that she would love me to illustrate a children’s story her husband had written. It was 28 pages long and was only going to be a one-off present and not published. She also said that she wanted it to be in the style f my “Baby animal slide” image. I was delighted to be asked. So everything was fine and I was really excited. However, she asked for a quote. I have no idea really about prices. I came to the conclusion that I would charge per page and extra if she wanted to keep the original artwork. I decided on $40 per page (they were to be watercolour artworks). I had thought that this wasn’t too unreasonable seeing as if she wanted all 28 pages done it would take me forever between my job and full-time uni. To cut a long story short, I never heard back from her. I guess Im just wondering how other people would have handled this and if I over-charged? Would love to hear your opinion :)

i read this .. this week and posted it to my blog – but i thought id share it here, for people who dont read the ‘geek’ section of the newspapers… Broadband users could start paying for uploads By Andrew Colley and Mahesh Sharma / July 17, 2007 12:00am / Article from: The Australian Consumers could be forced to pay for uploading Changes will hit young people hardest Optus first to launch new pricing scheme BROADBAND consumers have always had to pay for their internet downloads, but they may soon have to pay for uploading as well. Uploading pictures and videos onto social networking sites such as MySpace and YouTube had until last week been free for anyone with an internet service provider other than Telstra. But last week Optus launched a new broadband product that counts upload amounts as well as downloads and includes them in the monthly total amount. The telco has not ruled out expanding that pricing regime to other broadband packages. Other providers are preparing to follow suit as the amount of data uploaded to the internet rises. Younger users who share movies and pictures with friends would be hit hardest by the change. Two leading ISPs have expressed sympathy with Optus’s changes. Michael Malone, chief executive of Perth-based ISP iiNet, said there was no immediate plan to start counting uploads towards customer internet usage quotas. He was, however, sympathetic with the decision of Optus to dabble with the pricing model. Mr Malone said six years ago the average iiNet user uploaded 1MB of content for every four that they downloaded. Now the ratio was starting to exceed four in every five, he said. If the ratio started to exceed one-to-one, iiNet would have to reconsider its pricing model. “If uploads continue to increase it could become a cost problem. “If uploads exceed downloads we will be buying bandwidth based on uploads instead of downloads,” Mr Malone said. Simon Hackett, managing director of Adelaide-based ISP Internode, also said he would have to reconsider the pricing model if the ratio began to exceed one-to-one. “We haven’t got any intention of changing our upload pricing model at the moment,” Mr Hackett said. “That said, it’s not an industry in which predicting the future is particularly smart.” Jumps in the use of peer-to-peer file sharing software and new web-based social networking sites that make it easier for consumers to share videos have already started to strain ISP budgets for international bandwidth. The ABS reports that Australian internet users downloaded 40 trillion megabytes in the three months to March 31 compared with 33 trillion megabytes in the previous quarter. Shara Evans, chief executive of telecommunications analyst Market Clarity, said it made sense for ISPs to start charging for uploads to cover the cost of running their networks. “The paradigm has changed. Internet usage is no longer just in the download direction,” Ms Evans said. Until now, Telstra has been the only major internet provider in Australia to count uploads towards its customers’ monthly usage quotas, earning it a reputation among rivals as the industry miser. “I noticed there was a fairly big difference in my personal usage going from a plan that counted uploads to one that didn’t count uploads,” Mr Rowlandson said. My 2cents : There is such a need for educating everyday household (and especially kids/teens – who are not actually forking out the money) on a sensible usage of the internet. Our community worldwide is severely lacking education..not to mention general RESPECT.. of the internet..and of what we buy, consume, etc… Its not just natural resources that we using without care… - This also will effect greatly when we UPLOAD our images..or how much stuff we upload… sourced : News.com.au

Entertainment Photography Questions??

I am looking to speak specifically with photographers that work with models and/or musical artists. I am really confused how I should be charging these specific clients. Currently I charge for a photo shoot and give them pictures on a disk. I have been told not to give my pictures on a disk, however, how do I work with them in regards to using their pictures for CD’s or posters, etc. If I give them a disk it allows them to pick out the pictures they want to use and print them on a poster or give them to a graphic artist for design. So I am just curious how others handle working with these clients, what you charge and am interested in seeing any sample contracts that you have. I am also interested in knowing if you give them the rights to the pictures or if you hold the rights to your images. Thanks.

Battery Woes

I haven’t been taking many photos of late as I am having trouble with my crap rechargeable batteries for my camera. I use Energiser 2100mA AA batteries with a standard charger. I use two sets of four for my Pentax K100d. Lately they have been lasting barely half an hour at most even after a full charge. As it takes 8hrs + to charge a set with my current charger I am often without batteries for the camera. Its annoying me intensely and I’m looking at buying a good 15min – 1 hr charger and batteries. Only thing is I don’t know what to go for. Hence this post. What do you guys use? Obviously a charger that refreshes the batteries prior to a charge is massively useful. I’m not to bothered about the price if the batteries and charger offer great performance. Let me know guys – links to product pages are welcome Cheer

On 20th February, I ordered about 10 cards, and two mounted prints. One was for my mother’s birthday on 26th February – I knew I would get it a little late, but it’s now 7th March and I still haven’t received them. The cards came really quickly, I got an email to say they were shipped first, then later that day I got an email from redbubble again to say the mounted prints ahd also been shipped. To date, the mounted prints haven’t arrived. On Wednesday, I emailed redbubble that I had had the cards and was impressed with the quality, but hadn’t received the mounted prints and wanted to know where they are, seeing the charge has already reached my credit card. I got an email back from Redbubble to say it was ‘concerning ’- but have heard nothing since. I don’t know if they’re looking into it or going to ship me more, or anything, zip, nada, nothing. I emailed them again this morning asking if I should contact my bank and reverse the charges on my credit card seeing I hadn’t heard from them. Zip, Nada, Nothing…. I’ts now 5.00pm Friday – I doubt I’ll hear anything over the weekend, and banks will now be closed for the day, but it’s really really frustrating. Meanwhile my mother is saying her birthday present is ALWAYS late!!! (It is !!) Okay – what do you think I should do now, seeing I can’t ring as I’m totally deaf and can’t hear on the phone? Cheers / Robyn

Where is your passion / Have you fed it to the birds / Have you given them little by little / That now they eat your words Where is your happiness / Have you tainted it with despair / You’ve given up on life, haven’t you / You think life isn’t fair What about that manhood / That you so claim you have / Has your ego swelled and burst / And driven you stark mad How dare you come with your tears / When before it was your hand / How foolish is the man that boasts / Yet crumbles on command How soon we forget / What damage has been done / When damage is reversed / How suddenly we run So where is that person / So eager to put me down / The one who stood against me / Where is your crown I’m in charge now!

I have basically been taking photos as a hobby, for friends and in my free time, and it’s getting to the point where I am being asked by people I don’t even know. What sort of rates should I start with? Here are some facts about me: I have my sony Alpha 100, no extras, I don’t have studio and have made-do with outdoors and backdrops and I have no professional experience. Does anyone have any advice for session fees or anything?

A visit from my mother and sister over the weekend once again inspired reflection of myself. Each time we spend time together I come away feeling guilty. This guilt comes in all shapes and sizes, never seems to be be realted to any prominant issues and leaves a feeling of resentment. New Dictionary definition Guilt – A persistant feeling so ingrained in most independent women that it has become second nature. I feel guilty for my success / I am guilty of being happy / Im guilty of loving my children / Guilty for needing time to myself / Guilt ridden for wanting more / I feel guilty for not having enough time / I am guilty of putting my family first / Im guilty of not agreeing with others opinion of me / Guilty for taking a different road / Guilt ridden for moving forward / I feel guilty for going my own way / I am guilty of growing away / Im guilty of not calling / Guilty for taking advantage / Guilt ridden for assuming its ok And now I feel guilty for saying these things out loud.

I got a card through the post saying my parcel was waiting at the post office due to a custom charge of £13. I had a dilemma as I was waiting for stuff from redbubble and also a cheap watch from ebay that cost £3 including postage. I decided it was the watch (as no-one on redbubble has mentioned any custom cost), and decided to forget it, as the watch is not that important. But, sadly the watch has arrived which must mean the parcel I owe for is the one from redbubble. I have to pick that up, as I have paid a lot for the tshirts I ordered. I am really annoyed with our UK postal system and not redbubble. I probably won’t order anything other than cards in future though because of this. Has this happened to anyone else, and has anyone got a clue why this £13 has been slapped onto MY parcel???
