Sales of this Design? – 1 sale so far :) / Flying Machine / by Karin Taylor / from the ‘Inspired Series’ / / Mixed Media / ink, chalk pastel, charcoal, acyrlic, mediums / silver, gold, bronze and rose metallic acrylics / adobe photoshop My most recent work, this piece was influenced by the ‘gliders’ in my family who have taken to the sky recently. My husband, my son and their friend Erich are all involved in a local gliding club…and always suggesting I paint an aeroplane lol I thought, there’s no way i can do that! / But i found a way, after lots of thinking on the subject to incorporate a sort of flying contraption i designed myself into this piece. My girl is onward bound and it’s semi-self portrait i guess you could say…altho most people don’t see the resemblance to me….she is a lot younger, perhaps how i would like to be thought of lol Also inspired by my lovely and ever patient friend Christine / a fabulous friend and textile artist, her threads and yarn and tactile things have affected me on an immense scale, so that all my work these days is imbued with these elements….although there is no actual wool or thread in the painting, i have used these as inspiration for her scarf and hair detail. The khaki overalls are what i wear when i’m painting, with a white singlet in summer, or a jumper in winter…...i am yet to find a hairdresser who could accomplish this hairstyle for me.. the little parrot represents conscience, a little voice that knows right from wrong….this is an idea loosely taken from a movie i saw a while ago ‘The Golden Compass’ I dedicate this painting to Christine, as she has listened to all my crazy ideas, and very carefully encourages me or points out things that may help, and i don’t know where i’d be without her…..thanx Chris :) Patchwork and patterns, repitition, daisies, journeys, serene expressions, genuity…..

A Painting by : Shree & Ami(my wife) / Wonderful Words by : Sally Omar Well this is a moment of a poor family waiting desperately together for their father who has still not returned after whole days work, where one kid is elder sister and standing behind another is younger son waiting and being impatient about their fathers uncertain returning issue back to their house. I specifically wanted to show their love, bond, respect, intimacy, curiocity, closeness, affection, feeling of insecurity, fear and a sense of worriedness, impatience and all sorts of wieard thoughts going on specially in the mind of the mother who desperately wants her husband to return back to home soon as its already too late and as both the children are hungry along with her, all of them waiting for their dad to acompany them at whatever food they have left with. Being mother of two little kids she cannot cry or show her sense of worry infront of kids but still she is infact so upset, so tensed and so curious for finding the reasons about not returning back of her husband till so late which she reflects throught her eyes and facial expressions along with managing her kids by giving them assurance that he will comeback soon. My wife Ami helped me a lot specially for bringing those waiting expressions on the face for which i will always be grateful to her unmatched artistic skills. / All the artwork is given a sepia tone with charcoal to show the feel of my theme desperate – await, which i think goes well with the moment of impatience…enjoy. And lastly a special thanks to Sally who did a marvellous job within no time giving a touch of liveliness to these waiting family with her wonderful words. “Psyche” self portrait, from the Black Butterfly series. Oct 1, 2008, charcoal/pastel on mylar with under-drawing on grey pastel paper 26×22” Mounted in a vintage frame. The drafting film is translucent, so I have used a moonstone Canson pastel paper under the film for color. I work on the frosted side of the paper for tooth. The mylar lends a lovely soft effect, beautiful for rendering the translucence of skin. It is a tricky surface to work on, just a flick of the finger brings you back to the clean surface. I load my fingers with charcoal to get the soft gradations of tone. The myths of the Greek goddess Psyche exemplify a woman’s search for authentic personal growth, a reminder that the integration of our experiences, however sad or frightening they may be, matures and transforms us, like the symbol of the butterfly emerging into the light from its dark cocoon. The butterfly in the drawing is from the reference photo I captured in Ireland – the Irish peacock butterfly. Psyche is a personification of the soul and was represented in ancient Greek mythology as a butterfly. The lily is my business logo symbol – for peace and annunciation. It also was inspired in this scale by Georgia O’Keefe’s flower paintings and their feminine connotations.
A tribute to The Goddess Marilyn, from my “Black Butterfly” series. From a reference photograph of the last sitting by Bert Stern. Charcoal and pastel on mylar drafting film, 20×16” The butterflies in this case symbolize the artist’s muse – and also are a premonition of the death of the goddess. The drafting film is translucent, so I have used a white paper under the film for brightness on this ethereal subject. I work on the frosted side of the paper for tooth. The mylar lends a lovely soft effect.
This is one of my favorite and best drawings. It was done in charcoal and I would estimate that it took roughly 5 hours to draw. The referece photo was taken with permission from here. http://ssuunnddeeww.deviantart.com/
Original Creation Date: December 30th, 2006 The Snow Maiden, or Snegurochka, is an old Russian fairytale of an elderly couple that had the dream of having a daughter. One day, after a fresh snowfall, the couple fashioned a girl out of the snow and she magically came to life. But as the seasons changed from winter to spring, the Snow Maiden became increasingly sad. When summer came, the girl was in a deep depression. One day, while wandering the woods, the Snow Maiden came upon a group of girls. She began to hike with them until after dark, when the woods became colder and the girls built a camp fire to warm themselves by. Watching the girls jump over the camp fire one at a time, the Snow Maiden lept across the fire as well, but before she reached the other side of the fire she disappeared into little more than a watery mist.
