    by Karin Taylor

    US$5.23–US$119.32

BABY BULL GETS FAMOUS!!! GRIFFITH REVIEW!! CLICK TO LEARN MORE / Sales of this Design? – 3 sales so far :) / / / Baby Bull Production is something I created not that long ago. It’s a mixed media piece on canvas textured paper…...i did it in response to the chilled out cows at Mullumbimby, northern New South Wales, who seem to be very laid back, i suspect they are indulging in the ‘other’ kind of grass also….... they have this real chilled look about them, and I’ve never seen cows anywhere else that have this way about them. I put it in the Casino Art Exhibition and it was the only painting that sold, every year a male school teacher goes to that show, or so the legend goes…....and purchases a piece…...it was my lucky year. Tonight I was asked if I’d ever sold a painting in a gallery…well, yes, and at exhibitions and privately. To date I believe I have sold between 30 and 40 original paintings, which I am very proud of…..in the early days 2002 I was very prolific, things have slowed down a bit with my painting now, because i am much more deliberate and take a lot of time to imbue my paintings with layers and love and depth…..it is just how i have grown as an artist, it is nice to report that there is growth along the journey…(and sales lol)!!! Somebody also has a print of these cows and loves them very much from what I understand lol

  • Persephone
    by cinquain

    US$3.99–US$91.20

Original Creation Date: March 7th, 2006 The title: / Persephone, the Greek Goddess Persephone is the goddess of the underworld in Greek mythology. She is the daughter of Zeus and Demeter, goddess of the harvest. Persephone was such a beautiful young woman that everyone loved her, even Hades wanted her for himself. One day, when she was collecting flowers on the plain of Enna, the earth suddenly opened and Hades rose up from the gap and abducted her. None but Zeus, and the all-seeing sun, Helios, had noticed it. Broken-hearted, Demeter wandered the earth, looking for her daughter until Helios revealed what had happened. Demeter was so angry that she withdrew herself in loneliness, and the earth ceased to be fertile. Knowing this could not continue much longer, Zeus sent Hermes down to Hades to make him release Persephone. Hades grudgingly agreed, but before she went back he gave Persephone a pomegranate (or the seeds of a pomegranate, according to some sources). When she later ate of it, it bound her to underworld forever and she had to stay there one-third of the year. The other months she stayed with her mother. When Persephone was in Hades, Demeter refused to let anything grow and winter began. This myth is a symbol of the budding and dying of nature. In the Eleusinian mysteries, this happening was celebrated in honor of Demeter and Persephone, who was known in this cult as Kore. • Charcoal on mylar drafting film, 22×18” The drafting film is translucent, so I have used a moonstone Canson pastel paper under the film for color. I work on the frosted side of the paper for tooth. The mylar lends a lovely soft effect, beautiful for rendering the translucence of skin. It is a tricky surface to work on, just a flick of the finger brings you back to the clean surface. I load my fingers with charcoal to get the soft gradations of tone. There were several unusual spiritual moments for me while working on this self-portrait. One was a near out of body experience while on a walk in the park, which spurred me to write my first poem in 30 years. A few days later, I started seeing black butterflies. Not so unusual in summer I suppose, but I don’t remember seeing this particular type in Chicago, maybe it’s due to our changing weather patterns. The odd thing was that I had just found a photo of a black butterfly online at RedBubble at http://www.redbubble.com/people/knightingail/art/1336726-1-black-beauty Then a black butterfly fluttered around me several times while I was walking that same afternoon! It happened again a couple of days later, this black butterfly flying in loops around me as I walked. Odd that the only black ones I saw, also seemed to notice me as well! Almost like they knew of my transformation. So, that inspired my second poem, “Black Butterfly” and I decided to incorporate a black butterfly into the drawing. The piece was made to fit a vintage distressed frame I found at my local antique shop. The Poem: Bemusing muse Black butterfly Came through the ether Mystical wings Encircled me along the way Enraptured on a summer day Music painted on the sky Black butterfly Blown in from far off dust Astral soul Dressed in stardust Black butterfly Draw me perfect Emergent from this coal black shell Wet wings spread in joy to stand Transformed Flawless at the artist’s hand Evanescent passion lies In our wavelengths intertwined Black butterfly Never caught Light gently in the mind Bring luminous thought (c) Alice McMahon White 2008

  • A seizure of LIfe
    by pauldrobertson

    US$3.99–US$91.20

Charcoal and chalk, 120×90cms. In the corners of our sweaty palms, nested in the secret lines twisting bizarre and unique. In the softest inane creak as the bones in our fingers curl. Longing, have you felt it in the tips of your fingers, pulling at the flesh on the inside of your arms? Have you ever felt your muscles jerk – sudden and violent, overwhelmed for a moment by craving? Brutal. / Irresistible. / It is a mundane magic – our own unconscious smile suddenly seen and caught, disarming and warm in a glimpsed reflection. As probability collapses. In the trickle of wishes at the back of our necks. / Beatific in hope; a frisson of what may be. If it might oh let it. This magic – a mute spell of touch…the spell of the never-seen small of our backs pressed against the warm belly of a lover. It is as magical as the scale, the startling magnitude of hunger as we kiss and kiss and kiss. Lips hot slippery hot against our own. The immersion of lust… a moment etiolated a welcome trick of tongues that in this at least cannot lie – but it ends! – a click of white teeth on stained. Breathless and sudden and sticky. Saliva cooling on our cheeks in the night air. / The lock; the click of that skin pressed so easily with such lazy comfort. I believe in never. / I believe in all the way.

  • A Painting by : Shree & Ami(my wife) / Wonderful Words by : Sally Omar Well this is a moment of a poor family waiting desperately together for their father who has still not returned after whole days work, where one kid is elder sister and standing behind another is younger son waiting and being impatient about their fathers uncertain returning issue back to their house. I specifically wanted to show their love, bond, respect, intimacy, curiocity, closeness, affection, feeling of insecurity, fear and a sense of worriedness, impatience and all sorts of wieard thoughts going on specially in the mind of the mother who desperately wants her husband to return back to home soon as its already too late and as both the children are hungry along with her, all of them waiting for their dad to acompany them at whatever food they have left with. Being mother of two little kids she cannot cry or show her sense of worry infront of kids but still she is infact so upset, so tensed and so curious for finding the reasons about not returning back of her husband till so late which she reflects throught her eyes and facial expressions along with managing her kids by giving them assurance that he will comeback soon. My wife Ami helped me a lot specially for bringing those waiting expressions on the face for which i will always be grateful to her unmatched artistic skills. / All the artwork is given a sepia tone with charcoal to show the feel of my theme desperate – await, which i think goes well with the moment of impatience…enjoy. And lastly a special thanks to Sally who did a marvellous job within no time giving a touch of liveliness to these waiting family with her wonderful words. A MOTHER WAITS IN DESPERATION / HER FAMILY IS VERY POOR / THERE IS VERY LITTLE TO EAT / WISHES THERE WAS MORE / SHE AND CHILDREN ARE HUNGRY / AS THEY WAIT / HE IS ALWAYS HOME ON TIME / TODAY HE IS LATE / WAITING WITH HER CHILDREN BY THE WINDOW / TO HIM HER THOUGHTS ARE SENT / SHE KEEPS WAITING / AND SHE LAMENTS WHERE IS MY HUSBAND….WHERE CAN HE BE / HE IS NEVER SO LATE / THE CHILDREN ARE HUNGRY / BUT WE MUST WAIT / THE FOOD IS SCARCE / NOT MUCH TO EAT / WHEN HE COMES HOME / WE WILL KISS AND GREET / I AM REALLY NERVOUS / I HOPE EVERYTHING IS GOOD / I WORRY EACH DAY / AS A WIFE SHOULD I MUST BE STRONG / I CANNOT LET MY CHILDREN SEE / HOW WORRIED I AM / WHERE CAN HE BE / HE’S NOT BEEN ACTING / LIKE EVERYTHING IS ALL RIGHT / I JUST PRAY / HE COMES HOME TONIGHT WE LOVE HIM SO MUCH / AND SEE HIM EACH DAY SO TIRED / THERE ARE TIMES HE COMES HOME / SO VERY WIRED / SOMETIMES HE’S ANGRY / AND I DON’T KNOW WHY / BUT I HOLD IN MY TEARS / I NEVER CRY MUM WHERE IS DAD / I’M REALLY HUNGRY / WE KEEP WAITING / WHERE CAN HE BE / DO YOU THINK HE STOPPED / AT THE STORE / TO BUY KHREE WE LIKE SO MUCH / LIKE HE DID BEFORE / THAT WOULD BE SO GOOD / WE LOVE WHEN WE GET SWEETS / DADDY LOVES US / SOMETIMES HE BUYS US TREATS MUM MY STOMACH / FEELS LIKE THERE IS A HOLE / I AM HUNGRY / AND FEEL OUT OF CONTROL / I WANT TO CRY / WHERE IS DAD / DO YOU THINK HE WILL COME HOME / DID I MAKE HIM MAD / DOES HE KNOW I LOVE HIM / DID I MAKE HIM SAD CHILDREN DON’T WORRY / MAYBE HE WORKED A LITTLE LATE / WE ARE STRONG / WE CAN WAIT / ALTHOUGH WE ARE HUNGRY / LET’S SAY A PRAYER / CLOSE YOUR EYES / AND HE WILL SOON BE HERE SILENTLY TO GOD SHE PRAYS / SO HER CHILDREN CAN’T HEAR / TO SEND HER HUSBAND SOON / SHE IS NOW LIVING IN FEAR / HER THOUGHTS ARE GOING WILD / WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF HE NEVER RETURNED / HER HEART IS HEAVY / HER SOUL IS BURNING KNOWING THAT HE LOVES THEM / AND THERE IS A TRUE BOND / SHE IS TERRIFIED / THAT HE HAS BEEN HARMED / SHAKING HER HEAD / SHE PRAYS WITH ALL HER HEART / THAT HE COME HOME / SHE AND HER CHILDREN ARE DESPERATE /
