The idea for this picture came from the Chesstown project I am doodling on every now and then. / It was first sketched with pencil and paper,and then scanned. / I played around with this design for days before I was satisfied. / And I didn’t really get there before I decided to use the sketch of an old ship I did long time ago. The sketch was applied without further refinement (read: inking ore /and color), so it’s just the old sketch really. / I used both Photoshop and Illustrator to get what I was after here on this one. / The motive has been for sale as posters and cards for a while, and now I introduce the tee. The traditional classic chinese word “ai” (love) consist of the word “xing” (heart) at its core. “Ai Xing” in mandarin means “loving heart”. I have simply highlighted the core word “xing” in red to show the meaning of loving heart. “While some simplified characters were adopted from conventional abbreviated forms that have existed for a long time, the vast majority of the changes made by PRC were “unnatural” such as the removal of the symbol for heart (心) from the word love (愛) into the new character (爱).” (Wikipedia) This word is hand-written by me (using a wacom pen & tablet). This t-shirt design is currently only available from RB. One, in a series of portraits, featuring character faces, clothing and expressions. Not people I know, but just happen to meet and I request a portrait shot. / Few refuse and I give them a print of the finished result. I will be including portraits of different professions as time goes on. Mechanics, doctors, laborers…... very interesting to find the assortment of faces, and the stories they tell, as we experience our day to day life. Hope you enjoy!
