The Chinese character jiong originally meant “bright” but is now popularly used by many Chinese on the internet to represent being “shocked, amused, or stupefied.” Can you see why? My name is Fauna and I am a Chinese living in Shanghai. I started a website called chinaSMACK that translates popular internet stories, pictures, and videos from the Chinese-language internet into English so more people can understand normal Chinese people in less political ways. These limited edition t-shirts celebrate the first 3 months since I started chinaSMACK. We now have 7 contributors translating and writing for the website. While my scanner is on the blink I’ve been going through some of my photos taken while in Shanghai, China in 2006 and found a few with potential. I don’t think I’ll upload too many as photography isn’t one of my strong points, but it is fun to see what you can do with an image in photoshop. This one was taken while in a river traffic jam, our driver was a real character!
