While my scanner is on the blink I’ve been going through some of my photos taken while in Shanghai, China in 2006 and found a few with potential. I don’t think I’ll upload too many as photography isn’t one of my strong points, but it is fun to see what you can do with an image in photoshop. This one was taken while in a river traffic jam, our driver was a real character!

First sketched in early 2006 and inked over, the image of the Seamster has remained one of my favourite creations out of the many I have done. He exists in Dostrameeni as a warden of the spirit world, guiding the souls of children to the Ferry Man who then in turn takes them to the Forest of the Dead. There is much legend about his true identity and how he became a warden but, like so many of the twisted spirits in the Spectral Realm, the truth died with them as many are reluctant to relive their traumatic end. In the case of the Seamster, one such story is that he was brutally disembodied by a mutinous group of circus performers in which he was their ringmaster. He gets his name from his ‘stitched together’ appearance.

Handcuffs is a character from one of Neonica Cruz’s many stories. Neonica has been a friend of mine since the first grade and she started writing when we were grade 6. Neonica describes Handcuffs as quiet, logic driven but does not run from a fight, prone to sarcasm when it suits it, “more of by the rules” guy but its more like “by his rules”. His laid back appearance can be deceptive and he is also a marked sharpshooter due to his enforcer training before the war… Character was designed by me and was done hand drawn, cleaned up in Corel Paint and coloured in Photoshop.
