  • Flat Wattle – as the yellow flowers die off they are replaced with red seed cones. This section shows these changes at differing stages of decay and development. It took five years to find this small section of plant that shows the changes from flowering to seed production. Taken in Kings Park, Perth.

  • I see a red door and I want it painted black / No colors anymore I want them to turn black / I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes / I have to turn my head until my darkness goes I see a line of cars and they’re all painted black / With flowers and my love both never to come back / I see people turn their heads and quickly look away / Like a new born baby it just happens ev’ry day I look inside myself and see my heart is black / I see my red door and it has been painted black / Maybe then I’ll fade away and not have to face the facts / It’s not easy facin’ up when your whole world is black No more will my green sea go turn a deeper blue / I could not foresee this thing happening to you If I look hard enough into the settin’ sun / My love will laugh with me before the mornin’ comes I see a red door and I want it painted black / No colors anymore I want them to turn black / I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes / I have to turn my head until my darkness goes Hmm, hmm, hmm,... I wanna see it painted, painted black / Black as night, black as coal / I wanna see the sun blotted out from the sky / I wanna see it painted, painted, painted, painted black / Yeah! ~Lyrics The Rolling Stones

  • Oil Pastel and Acrylic on old wood with slight digital enhancements Ophelia, puzzled by the radical transformation that had taken place overnight to this butterfly friend of hers, thought to herself, “She was in a white thread-like casing yesterday, how did all that happen so fast? There must be something magical about that case!” This is inspired by a book Hope For The Flowers by Trina Paulus. This is a cute and yet thought provoking story about two caterpillars who because they mistake the meaning of their urge to get high, get entangled climbing a horrible “caterpillar pillar”. And for two caterpillars, we all know, surrendering to the cocoon is the only way to finally fly. Hope For the Flowers is a book that celebrates HOPE. My fave lines from the book is “How does one become a butterfly?” She asked pensively. “You must want to fly so much that you are willing to give up being a caterpillar.” We are all meant to be as beautiful and free like the butterflies, that’s our destiny…as we free ourselves to be who we really are…and together with our innate talents,we bring hope to the world around us, bringing change inevitably around us :D / You can view and buy my other “Metamorphosis” creations from my Zazzle Gallery:

  • I Love Me as a greeting card design!! =D / In the background is the kanji “ai”, 爱 meaning love.. n_n” There are some of us, who took it upon ourselves to do things for others. to help others.. to make others happy.. but we forgot about ourselves! we forgot that we need to make ourselves happy too. we need to love ourselves too. if we don’t love ourselves, who’ll love us? i dedicate this to every one of you kind souls out there!! remember to always love yourself as well!! =D i especially thank Karin who kept reminding me that i am love-able as well. bad history and with the kind of people i’m surrounded by, i was made to believe that nobody will love me for everything that i am. am made to realise all my faults and bad points and weaknesses. made to believe am ugly and useless. having depression doesn’t help as i view myself as nothing more than a mental girl. i totally believe that it’s impossible for anyone to really love me. But Karin showed me otherwise. she made me answer and admit my pretty gd points.. and i realised.. hey!! i can be love-able?! am still trying to accept that now.. lolz.. it’s still kinda hard to accept, having been instilled those “i sux!” mindset for years… ahahahah.. XD Thank you, Karin!! GLOMPZ!!! fa: i had to force Tim to carry that signage cos he wouldn’t say the words!! stupid monster.. / Tim: it says I Love Me!! how can you love yourself!! you’re big, fat, ugly and you’re mental with me in your head!! / fa: awww.. i can love you too, can’t i~ XD / Tim: NOOOOOOOOOoooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! • Barack Obama – Change for America, for the World, for All of Us – The Audacity of Hope On November 4, 2008, Barack Obama defeated John McCain and became the first African American to be elected President of the United States. In his victory speech, delivered before a crowd of hundreds of thousands of his supporters in Grant Park in Chicago, Illonois, Obama proclaimed that “change has come to America.” Born in Hawaii, Obama will be the first U.S. President born outside the contiguous United States. He also will be fifth youngest President at the date of accession and the second since Lincoln whose primary political base is Illinois. This portrait illustrates and epitomizes the audacity of hope. President Obama was sworn in as the 44th President of the United States of America on January 20, 2009. Selected information courtesy of Wikipedia. Hello! As I’m sure you’re all aware – there’s a bit of an economic storm brewing at the moment. RedBubble is weathering the storm; below is the latest sales graph from 2 Feb 07 to 20 Nov 08 – things are still going in the right direction. However, we think it’s important to ‘shorten the sails’ and respond to the environment. This means we’re going to selectively increase prices on a few of our products. Namely t-shirts (in Australia), cards and mounted prints. The price changes will occur at about 1 a.m. GMT on 24 November – (i.e. at the end of this coming weekend – UK time). We’re providing this notice so you can take advantage of the old prices for one last weekend. T-shirts In Australia only t-shirts will increase in price to AUD25. RedBubble T-shirts are made in the USA and printed in Germany – and as all Australians will know the Australian dollar has lost about 25% of it’s value in the couple of months against the USD and EUR. We’ve ‘sucked up’ the currency loss – hoping that things would return to ‘normal’ but it doesn’t look like they will any time soon. So the price of a t-shirt will increase to AUD25 to allow RedBubble to make some money on t-shirt sales. Cards We’ve been making the cards at cost since they launched in 2007. Our thinking was to make a spectacular product and once they started selling like hot cakes we’d work out how to make them automatically. They’ve been selling like hot cakes pretty much since we first launched them, but despite our best efforts we haven’t been able to automate the production of the cards (they are all made by hand). So to date there’s been no return to RedBubble on any card sales. So that we can now make a return on cards the prices will be changed to: USD 3.32 / CAD 3.32 / EUR 2.27 / GBP 1.57 / AUD 3.50 Mounted prints We wanted a product that was positioned in between the price of a print and a framed print. We thought the mounted print would be that product – but the cost of gatorboard (the backing used in a mounted print) is very high. We’ve essentially been selling the mounted prints at cost for the last year so that it could occupy this mid price point while we tried to find a replacement for gatorboard with all the same high quality characteristics (light and strong). However, we haven’t been able to find a replacement. So we’re looking to introduce the following new pricing for mounted prints to enable us to make a return on mounted prints. __ USD EUR GBP AUD CAD Small 38.00 26.00 18.00 40.00 38.00 Medium 52.25 35.75 24.75 55.00 52.25 Large 71.25 48.75 33.75 75.00 71.25 We’ll still keep working on a process to automate the production of cards or a better way of mounting prints. And if we do improve our production arrangements we’ll look to pass this cost saving back to the community. These prices rises will enable RedBubble to remain financially strong … and to pay the salaries of these lovely people who are working hard to make RedBubble a better site and to help you share and sell your work: We make these changes with the greatest of reluctance, but we do think it’s essential to keep RedBubble financially strong. Ciao, Peter PS – Just a reminder that the price of Framed prints, Canvas Prints, Calendars, Laminated Prints are all unaffected by these price changes.

The Gentoo Penguin is listed as Near Threatened on the IUCN Red list of Threatened Species Melting sea ice and overfishing have triggered a dangerously rapid decline in penguin populations on the Antarctic peninsula – a direct result of global warming, warns a new report from the WWF. Temperatures on the frozen continent are rising five times faster than the global average due to the unprecedented rate of climate change, pushing four species perilously close to extinction. Warmer temperatures are forcing penguins to raise their young on increasingly thinner and more precarious ice floes, while stronger winds mean many eggs and chicks are being blown away from their parents before they are able to survive on their own. The gentoo, chinstrap and adélie – along with the emperor, the largest penguin species in the world – are now struggling to survive as melting sea ice destroys nesting sites and reduces vital food sources, such as krill.

Hi, Everyone likes free shipping. It seems to be a thing with the Internet … we’ve just come to expect that shipping doesn’t cost any money. I wish this were the case in real life … but that last time I tried to convince our friendly courier company to give their service away for nothing I was met with a rather incredulous response. It was worth a shot … Over the last day I’ve been thinking about how we can introduce a better free shipping deal with calendars. At the moment you need to buy 10 calendars to secure free shipping … and 10 is quite a lot. So we’ve crunched the numbers and from tomorrow we’re going to increase the base price of calendars by USD 1.9 (AUD 2.0, GBP 1.0, EUR 1.3, CAD 1.9) and introduce free shipping for an order of 3 or more calendars. This brings free shipping well within the reach of every calendar buyer so that those people who are particularly sensitive to shipping charges can avoid them. It also encourages larger order sizes – which we think will sell more calendars. The average calendar order is just a bit under 3 calendars. And for an order of 3 calendars this change actually means that there’s no change to the ultimate price. Here’s an example (3 calendars bought in USD and shipped to the US): Old pricing: US$57 base price + US$5.68 for shipping and handling = $US62.68 New pricing: US$62.70 + US$0 for shipping and handling = $US62.70 When you work out all of the details of this change it means that an order of 1 or 2 calendars will be slightly more expensive, an order of 3 is essentially the same and orders of 4 to 10 calendars are cheaper. But importantly we’ll be encouraging larger order sizes and making free shipping much more accessible. We’re also seeing quite a few folks place bulk orders of calendars – for people interested in placing an order of 20 or more calendars please drop us a line as we’ve been working out bulk rates with folks on a case by case basis. I know that any change to pricing is a bit like a red rag to the bull – so before anyone ‘charges off’ here are a few guiding principals with RedBubble: - We don’t ever want to be the cheapest – we pride ourselves on quality products and quality costs more. / - The average margin earned by an artist on RedBubble is twice the margin made by RedBubble. Just as we don’t want to talk you out of your margin – we ask that the members of RedBubble respect our position – we are in this together. The change will come into effect from 10 am Melbourne time on Friday (3 pm San Francisco time on Thursday and 0:00 am London time on Friday). Ciao, Peter

  • Original artwork also includes The Changing Face of Now No.1. / Watercolour on rag paper. 45×180cm. 2008 I have used the fluidity of watercolour to express a personal perception of self and others and the changing nature of how we relate. In a time when technology brings many alternative means of communication, I am trying to bring awareness to the universal human condition that is facial expression. By creating a progression of images, I explore the changing perception of personalities as they shift over time, in attitude or mood.
