Artist Profile: Chanel

Chanel or Cathryn as she is know to family and friends has been a happy breath of fresh air across the Red Bubble since joining in July 2007. Like many of us she discovered RB via Anneli’s Creative Corner Blog in The Age. She had just bought me a new camera and found the site positive and encouraging, so thought it was a great place to get her new passion underway, including writing. I‘m glad she did as she seems to excel at both. Chanel’s poetry and verse is as funny as it is revealing. To anyone who has been with a long time partner, married, had kids or just tipped over the forty year old mark her poems are gentle and humorous reminders that you’re not alone. A quick peak through her portfolio is sure to raise either a wry smile or a laugh out loud moment when you read her short and funny poems. MANS EYES, ROMANCE and ROAD RAGE are classic examples. But there is a serious side to Chanel that can bring a chill and tears when she recalls the horrible practices of Government Agencies from a time gone by in her short story and accompanying poem THE BIG BLACK SHINY CAR this and THE RENT MAN may or may not hint at a less than affluent childhood but never forget to mention love is always present. And speaking of things all lovely and romantic Chanel can boast she got it right by relieving she met her hubby in her native New Zealand when she was 15 and he 16 and are still (as she puts it) deliriously happy 27 years later with two daughters 18 and 22. As well as her writing Chanel is a keen photography and has a love of close up or macro photography. Rejoicing in the small and colourful in what would be normally over looked in the bigger world. Check out Chanel, she has a lot to offer and is a talent worth watching. - Danny
