From Thursday 4th to Sunday 7th September 2008, Darling Harbour will again host artists from around Australia to take part in the only four day chalk art event in the southern hemisphere, Chalk Urban Art Festival. Tumbalong Park will come alive with colour as a multitude of artists transform the street into a / canvas, adorned with over 40 individual chalk artworks in the search for the Champion Pavement Artist 2008. After three successful years, which drew over 120 000 keen spectators each year to the chalked pavements of Pyrmont Bridge, 2008 will see an even bigger and more colourful festival. Chalk Urban Art Festival now includes an urban music program, street theatre, graffiti workshops, spoken word/performance poetry, a wearable art showcase & urban fashion parade, food stalls and art workshops. The winning pavement artist as chosen by 3 independent judges will receive $5,000 in prize money and the title of Champion Pavement Artist. The general public can also vote for the People’s Choice Award as they browse the pavement. Urban Art is a way to communicate with the public. I have uploaded my most recently completely doodle, I finished it exactly 34 minutes ago but since it is late tonight… I’m going to scan it tomorrow for a better high quality image but I wanted to share the preview I took with photo booth since I’m quite pleased with the finished piece. I really like working with chalks and how they blend into each other to create realistic smooth shadows. I enjoy drawing people too, I find the human body fascinating and used to love my life drawing classes at college. I hope you guys like it too.

I hope this Christmas found you and left you with much joy along with the excitement of a New Year! / A special “Thanks” to each an every one of you who purchased my artwork and apparel for Christmas gifts for your loved ones this year! Thank you to all who purchased my “New Years” greeting cards and I trust everyone had a safe and exciting New Years! There was much for me to be happy for this year as it was my first year back in California and I was able to celebrate with family that I haven’t been able to with in a while. The weather alone was a Christmas gift for me; it was clear and 75 degrees, a Holiday paradise! While it wasn’t a White Christmas it was indeed a Bright Christmas, (literally…I needed sunglasses!) I simply love everything about Christmas. Decorating the tree, the incredible smells, like pine, cinnamon and clove and baked goods. I also adore creating special presents for friends and family and wrapping them up to look irresistible. This is something I share in common with my Grandpa I recently found out, we both go nuts and all out for all Holidays. Give either of us any excuse to celebrate, enjoy seasonal food and decorations and we are all over it! I always make sure to wear green on St. Patrick’s Day, carve a pumpkin on Halloween and decorate eggs on Easter…and it doesn’t end there mind you! There is just something so wonderful about getting into the spirit of the season, especially if you are a creator. This new year was just as happy for me. I spent it at home curled up in a blanket watching movies, and made it to the countdown by watching Kill Bill Vol.’s 1. And 2., with homemade popcorn. Aaaah, and that is always a recipe for happiness for this girl. There’s something about a countdown that makes my heart leap. Unfortunately that also happens to me on those late night television sales pitches, there’s just nothing like a ticking down clock to create intensity, luckily, I am aware of this, and can avoid them as to prevent irrational purchasing of useless items! Oh, but on New Years to be counting along with so many others at the same time always brings more than a touch of nostalgia to my heart. Connecting with others is something that will probably always get to me, like the way RedBubble brings so many of us together from so many parts of the world, it’s a beautiful and wonderful thing! / Now that this New Year has arrived with much joy and anticipation from me, it is now time for something new. It’s time for me to clean up and put away all of my Holiday Festivities and move forward into this new year with a clean slate, chalk full of new ideas and creations.
