yesterday I attemped to have a conversation with someone about what consitutes a ‘real photographer’. rather that respond he reacted by telling me I’m a negative psyhco bitch, the only bad thing about Redbubble and should hurry out to buy razor blades and kill myself. no shit! I guess this means I’ll never be a ‘real photographer’ so to celebrate my freedom from the label of ‘real’ I’ve decided to concentrate on posting some UNREAL photographs. Here’s the first. This is a chance shot taken while someone slept in the set of an alternative theatre production some years ago. Vale Peter your real to me still though you are no longer real in a corporeal sense.

Tucked amongst the trees by the ocean, “The Shack” sums up the essence of the Cocos Islands for me. A hut for surfers, a deck chair in the shade, warm breeze, driftwood, surf and sand between my toes. Well maybe a few mozzies too! Here exists a culture hard to find elsewhere; one of respect, where you can leave your surfboard and towel and come back to it a day later, a month later. While we were roadtripping through New England one of our first stops was in Essex, Connecticut. The season was fall and our intention was to take in the wonders of nature, enjoy the fall foilage. In Essex we bought tickets for the Essex Steam Train and Riverboat. When we got to the ticket counter it turned out that the train had been reserved for a private party and not open to the public on that day but since it was just the two of us ( my husband and I) they said they would give us a private car. If you still haven’t figured it out well the private car looked like what you see above. It had this antique feel about it, reminded me of a time when these trains were the means of tranportation, nothing like the trains we have today. And then every once in a while the steam train would let out a tut. It was enchanting. The blue of the chairs so cool, so lush, the sun streaming in. A perfect stop on what turned into a perfect trip. / Sitting the old Fashioned Way

part of a ttv (through the viewfinder) series Theory: / TTV (Through The Viewfinder) photography is when you use an old medium format camera and a digital camera. / These old medium format twin reflex cameras have large viewfinders. Firstly you compose your image using the medium format camera (in my case i have used a mamiya c33) then you actually take the picture using a digital camera (here i use my pentax K10) of what is in the viewfinder of the old camera.
