Sometimes even mistakes can turn out right. Here I woke up really early, way too early as I misjudged the time for a sunrise. So for an hour or so I was just waiting for the light. As the moon descended this opportunity arouse. This shot is taken at a point where on one side of the beach you can see east and watch the sunrise and basically just turn around and face west and watch the moon set. At this point the resort was abandoned, hence the chair. I only moved it slightly to improve the composition. Recently we did a test shoot for two really funny and crazy guys who also happen to make music together, Jase and Tom after their manager aeris saw my stuff on RedBubble and decided I am shit hot at what I do. (I’m working on the modesty bit, I swear.) Anyway they really really didn’t want to do a photo shoot in a smelly, public, and damp mens’ toilet so naturally I nagged at them until they relented. Then the first thing their manager said upon viewing this image was “That one’s for RedBubble!” So here it is.

A great turnout of Redbubblers met at Gladesville Mental Hospital this morning for some photo opportunities – this is a little nook in one of the delapidated buildings. Thanks to Philip and Kaz for organising the day. Gladesville Mental Hospital (formerly Tarban Creek Lunatic Asylum) operated from c.1838- Surviving records cover c.1822-1985 In 1838 the lunatic asylum was moved from Liverpool to Tarban Creek, Gladesville and the first patients were transferred from Liverpool Asylum and the Female Factory, Parramatta. It accepted patients from Victoria up until 1848 when the Yarra Bend asylum was opened. By the mid 1960s the institution was known simply as Gladesville Hospital. In 1993 premises at Gladesville Hospital and Macquarie Hospital were revoked as hospitals, and were amalgamated to form the Gladesville Macquarie Hospital. he’d come home from a trip / give us all a kiss hello / then sit and have a smoke / we knew to bide our time / watching from the hall / as he sat quiet puffing / slyly smiling to himself / forming circles / to our whispered gaw’s of admiration / then the butt is dead his eyes close / but we knew he wasnt asleep / so we creep in and sit at his feet / waiting excited smiling giddy / then he’d yell and give us a fright / and we’d jump on his lap as he / reaches behing the smoking chair / for trinkets and stories from somewhere else / keyrings of little towers / domes of water and snow / dolls with funny names for sara / and each with a little story / one for each of us. sometimes when i get home / and in a certain mood / i sneak down the side and into the shed / with hinges i really must oil / i sit in an old grey chair / dusty torn and worn / strike a match and have a smoke / then reach underneath / a little wooden box / filled with domes and trinkets, / little toy cars, letters / and filled brimming with memories
