  • Check out the really cool greenhouse at the top! Hehehehe! That’s where the prisoners get to exercise “outdoors”. This shot was taken from the only vantage point where most of the building can be seen because of its height and location in the architectural canyons of Downtown Sacramento. It happens to be overlooking what used to humbly be called Gallo Park because the “winos” had completely taken it over in the 1970’s. It was hella embarrassing to the city; City Hall is still right across the street! So the park was renamed Cesar Chavez Park, renovated from end to end, and the “winos” were all kicked out – for about a month. Every now and then, some eager beat cop rousts a few for being a public nuisance and occasionally one gets ‘free rent and board with greenhouse exercising privileges’ but, for the most part, this ground is immune to the usual vagrancy codes and homeless are allowed to sleep there during the day as long as nothing special (read “political”) is planned for the park.
