A richly symbolic image depicting the Celtic ‘Horned God’ Cerne or Cernunnoss in passionate embrace with his consort, The Goddess. Cerne is traditionally Lord of the Animals and The Goddess is generally associated with the ‘Sacred Forest’ of all life on Earth. The forest, however, needs animals to spread the seeds and pollenate the flowers., and the animals need the forest to provide food and shelter. As such, neither can survive without the other. The union of Cerne and The Goddess ensures the continuity of all life on Earth. All of my artworks are executed in handmade papers and organic materials from the rainforests of Northern NSW, Australia. As such, they not only represent our union with the earth symbolically, but also physically as objects in their own right.
The picturesque village of Cerne Abbas in the heart of Dorset, famous for the ‘Cerne Giant’, a 60 foot high chalk figure engraved into the hillside which is renowned as a fertility symbol. Unfortunately it is also very difficult to photograph well, so if you’re curious, you will have to be content with the snapshot below!
Looking down magnet tubing of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. Protons will be fired nearly at the speed of light and collide at detector points such as the 25m high, 7000 tonnes ATLAS (pic below). / / Straddling the Franco-Swiss border, the tunnel housing the LHC is 27 km in circumference, making it the largest particle collider in the world. / Confirmation of the existence, or absence, of the Higgs particle, identification of extra dimensions and investigation of antimatter are among the highly anticipated results of the particle collisions. But no one really knows what’s going to happen. / To keep the magnets functioning, they are cooled to -271.3°C, colder than the temperature of space between galaxies. Final stages of cooling are currently taking place and the LHC is expected to begin firing within a month or two. / Scientists at CERN were the inventors of the internet; www.CERN.ch was the first website to exist on the web. Update: Well, here we are, the world hasn’t ended. Onwards and upwards for the advancement of knowledge – yipppeee!

Just wondering has anyone heard of the imminent launching (tomorrow) of the “world’s highest energy particle accelerator, it is poised to provide new insights into the mysteries of our universe”. / Not all mysteries are meant to be solved, are they? If you’re interested you can have more info there http://public.web.cern.ch/Public/Welcome.html Just wondering what tomorrow will bring us … Enjoy your day Poupoune

Just prior to The CERN Accelerator being turned on yesterday there was a fair bit of gleeful radio talkback about the supposed possibility that it may generate a black hole that would consume the world. A little bit of this glee was just pure skepticism about this risk but I also got a hint of something else – a sort of delighted nihilism. There would be no planet, or people to count the cost so nothing could have been lost. I confess I also tingled slightly at this prospect of delightful abandonment. If the Accelerator was really capable of wiping the slate completely clean then people would be queuing up to press the button.
My Dedication to the Men and Women of CERN and the LHC
This is my artwork showing what could possibly happen about one second after a proton particle collision if something is goes amiss at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in Geneva, Switzerland. Theoretical ‘dark matter’ and ‘strangelets’ are released by the collider into our dimension, which then form a stable black hole right on the surface of the Earth, tearing up the fabric of time and space and sucking the Earth inside-out into oblivion. / / This artwork was made to accompany my article about the dangers of the new particle collider that have been very effectively glossed over by the scientist community directly involved with the project, as well as, others with a financial interest in the 8 billion dollar project. The article details many aspects of what the scientists are not telling you about. / / Please be sure to read my article that accompanies this artwork at the link found below. / / Be Afraid by Art4EartH / http://www.redbubble.com/people/art4earth/writing/1682509-be-afraid / / Oh… the artwork details… The background created from a PD image from NASA. The black hole forming is a fractal i made in Apophysis, and the exact center of the black hole is precisely over the CERN complex just outside of Geneva, Switzerland. Post-processing effects and the composite were done in Photoshop. This is another large artwork that is hard to see the details of over the web, as the original was made at 3600 pixels square at 300 pixels per inch. / / Enjoy each day as if it is your last, as with all the madness in our world these days… it could very well be! / / Peace & Love, / / Art 4 EartH
My dear mother has always said “Those who play with fire are likely to get burned”. This artwork represents those that are now playing with fire thousands of times hotter than the core of the sun right here on Earth… and we may ALL get burned this time! / / This artwork was inspired by recent news about the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in Geneva, Switzerland, on the same day as the first initial test of the huge particle accelerator / collider. Apparently, some hackers from Greece successfully penetrated the computer systems at CERN from over the internet. The hackers made there way so deep within the CERN computer network that the were only one step away from being able to shut down the 12,000 ton superconducting magnet that contains the proton particle collisions within the ALICE complex at CERN. You can read the news article about these hackers at the link shown below. / / Hackers attack Large Hadron Collider / http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/main.jhtml?xml=/earth/2008/09/12/scicern212.xml / / If this scenario were to happen while one of the collision experiments was taking place, it would mean a complete failure in containing both the particle beam and the protons riding that beam at almost the speed of light’. In other words, invoking a catastrophic failure within the LHC that could result in anything from removing Geneva from the world map, to creating a black hole that could not be contained within the magnetic fields generated by the LHC superconducting magnet in ALICE. / / CERN is planning their first particle collision experiments around the end of October 2008. This time table may end up being pushed up, as other scientists are continuing to file suits for a ‘cease and desist’ order to have the LHC deactivated until more research can be done to more adequately prove out the theory the CERN scientists are counting on (Hawking’s Radiation) to keep the world safe. / / I recently wrote an article with another accompanying artwork about the LHC, which described the multitude of dangers associated with the collider that were not being reported to the public by the scientists that are involved with the project. I was pretty much ridiculed by the majority of people on the content of my article, and now only four days after the start up of the LHC the scientists at CERN are already proving out many of the points I argued in my article. I would love to say “who is laughing now?”, however, there is definitely nothing to laugh about regarding this serious issue. / / If you have not already read my article about the LHC, then PLEASE take the time to read it at the link shown below. The issues involved with the LHC could very well become the biggest threat that mankind faces today. / / Be Afraid / http://www.redbubble.com/people/art4earth/writing/1682509-be-afraid / / The artwork was created using quite a number of mixed media techniques. The source image of the Earth used as protons came from a PD image from NASA. Compositing, painting, and other effects were all created in Photoshop. This artwork is difficult to appreciate on the web, as the original is 9600 pixels by 4800 pixels at 300 pixels per inch. It is very intricate in detail on the full-size image, not viewable at viewing sizes over the web. / / Hopefully, this artwork will remind you of the potential danger the scientists at CERN are posing to all of us, and make you realize that not all scientific pursuits are acceptable in the world we live in today! / / Thanks for the visit! / / Art4Earth /
The Cerne giant is one of three ancient figures cut into the English chalk downlands. / The origin is still unknown. Some believe that he represents the Roman god, Hercules and is over 1,500 years old.Others suggest that the giant is a caricature of Oliver Cromwell and is onlyabout 350 years old. This argument centres on the fact that there is no reference to the giant in any historic documents until 1694.
This photo was taken in Dorset UK at Upcerne, looking towards Cerne Abbas. The farmers are completing the harvest and starting to plought the fields for the next crop. This gives each field a lovely texture. On the distant you can see the cerne giant. Nikon D300 Processed in Capture NX2 and silver efex pro
Cernunnos (also known as Cernenus and Cern) is a pagan Celtic horned god associated with fertility and produce. As a horned god, Cernunnos is associated with horned male animals, especially stags and the ram-horned snake. In this modern art interpretation of one of Cernunnos’ representations, the stag, I used triangular forms as they represent the masculine, while the circles represent the feminine. The triangle also represents the male, the female and the creative power, and regeneration (the union of two sides creating a third). In some interpretations, the triangle also represents the sky, the earth and all the living creatures. The stags horns are reminiscent of Celtic knotwork patterns. The original artwork measures 12.5×19 inches and is mixed media (oil pastels, colored pencils, metallic gold paint, liquid copper leaf, and black art marker) on heavy green Strathmore paper.
