a different view of the centre point building in London
On an overcast evening the city lights cast an eerie glow on the low hanging cloud.
CentrePoint, at the junction of Tottenham Court Road and Oxford Street, is another controversial London landmark – the aesthetics of its concrete exo-skeleton are often insulted and the building was the subject of many conspiracy theories concerning its use when it was left empty for many years immediately following its completion. I set out to show the building in a different light. The reflections of the glass panels and the widely varying tones produced by the shape of the concrete give the image a more upbeat feel than most would associate with this concrete beast, and the bright sky and scudding clouds complete the mood..
I took this photo on a cruise about a month ago. The weather was quite poor up until that point, so i got my camera out and took some shots as we left the harbour. I find the lighting in this to be rather interesting. Updated image: Cropped off most of the bottom of the original and made it more panoramic, as suggested by Paul- thanks!
couldn’t sleep last night. lack of sleeep always proves productive
couldn’t sleep last night so i made this.
The Centrepoint AMP Tower in Sydney, New South Wales.
Centrepoint AMP Tower right in the heart of Sydneys CBD.
.
This photo was taken from CentrePoint Tower Sydney Australia 260 metres off the ground from the turret, that cotinuely and slowly rotates at 360’degrees, so that you continuely get a panoramic view of the city of Sydney through their wrap around windows. This vie is looking directly down at St Mary’s Cathredral one of the largest and orate churchs in Sydney, in the forefront you can see Hyde Park and further beyond the southern suburbs of the city of Sydney. This photo was taken from the viewing turret of Centrepoint Tower Sydney Australia looking down at the CBD of Sydney, the turret continuely turns 360’degrees, slowly, but enough to give you the feeling of movement. Also, you get a diffrent view of the city and beyond and below, from the window all the time, I have also climbed the outside of the turret, hooked onto a wire. There is also a viewing platform while your wired outside, you can stand on a see through platform, and look at the city from up above too below…..Not for the faint hearted. Sydney Tower (also known as the AMP Tower, AMP Centrepoint Tower, Centrepoint Tower or just Centrepoint) is Sydney’s tallest free-standing structure, and the second tallest in Australia (with the Q1 building on the Gold Coast being the tallest). It is also the third tallest observation tower in the Southern Hemisphere (after Auckland’s Sky Tower and Melbourne, Australia’s Eureka Tower, though Sydney Tower’s main observation deck is almost 50 m (164 ft) higher than that of Auckland’s Sky Tower). The Sydney Tower is a member of the World Federation of Great Towers. The tower stands 305 m (1,001 ft)[1] above the Sydney CBD, being located at 100 Market Street, between Pitt and Castlereagh Streets. It is accessible from the Pitt Street Mall, and sits upon Centrepoint (to which the tower is often referred), an office and shopping centre development. The tower is open to the public, and is one of the most prominent tourist attractions in the city, being visible from a number of vantage points throughout town and from adjoining suburbs. While AMP managed the Centrepoint shopping centre, the tower was officially referred to as “AMP Tower”. After the Westfield Group took over ownership of Centrepoint in December 2001, the name was changed to Sydney Tower. Photo taken bt Canon IXUS

In the alley behind Centrepoint lies an urban gallery
Here’s an angle of the Centrepoint Tower you don’t see very often…
