This is the third of a recent series of works based on a small sketch of an urban sunrise. I’ve been working of various versions and wanted to add a clear blue sky to give some blank contrast to what was then a very busy and detailed image. I had no intention of creating a picture about the Twin Towers but as soon as I added the sky I knew where the picture was heading. The contrast between clear blue sky and urban skyline immediately evoked that day and the pictures that flashed across the globe like an emotional shock wave. For me the color of the Towers evokes memories of old photo negatives.. which feels appropriate because all I have seen saw of the Towers is photographs. So for me.. its as much a work about the effect of the media images of 9/11 as it is about the terrible event iitself.. and how in this day and age.. a tragedy is almost instantly etched into the memories of millions of people around the globe. I’m sure I am not alone in remembering exactly where I was and what I was doing when the news broke. I also like the fact that not a single element of the picture is a real image of the Twin Towers, its entirely a construct but for me it has a sort of photographic realism… or even an abstract realism ? I am not ashamed to say these are hi bred images a mixture of original drawings, scanned and then worked on with PS. It feels right that this image should only exist in a similar form to the news media images that are beamed around the globe. I like the increasingly blurred line between traditional visual art and photography…and imagination and reality. I’d like to dedicate this work to the British victims of this disaster. This one of a series of works based on an original pastel drawing “City Sunrise”. Click here for the next picture in the series

Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro, two very fine actors. Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, a very fine rapper. Jon Avnet (who?), a producer of some surprising movies. And Donny Wahlberg, who had better things to do than show up. AND Yellow Cap Guy. AND the usual slew of celebrities I’ve never heard of, and with a new rule in play : if I don’t know who they are, I’m just going to guess, based on whatever criteria I deem necessary. / Righteous Kill” I’ll admit I hadn’t heard of the film until I did a check of upcoming premieres in London and this one kind of leapt out since it starred 50 Cent and Donnie Wahlberg… uh, I mean Al Pacino and Robert De Niro / The Firing Squad. My Pentax K10D says : “bah” / Producer Jon Avnet (“Who?”), Actually, I’ve since learned his Production credits include Risky Business (1983), all three of the Mighty Ducks movies (!!), the movie version of ‘Inspector Gadget’ (starring the hated Matthew Broderick) and the film ‘Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow’, which I also hated. Yay, Jon Avnet! / Based on the strength of his past Productions, I’d expect Jon Avnet’s ‘Righteous Kill’ to be better than being crushed at the premiere of that same movie. Marginally, at least. / Al Pacino! Many of us theorise that as soon as he signs onto a role in any movie, that character’s dialogue is amended to include at least one five-minute screaming rant in full ‘Al Pacino Mode’. Woo! / Curtis “Fiddy Cent” Jackson. And, yes, this being England some clever people in the crowd decided to call him “Fifty Pence”. Oh, very well… LOL! / Al Pacino dances to the voices in his head. Although, being Al Pacino’s voices, they’re probably very angry and shouting loudly. / Ah, Robert De Niro. A great actor once, I’d say. But since about the ealy 90s he’s basically decided to ‘play against type’ and did so for Analyse This/That, Meet the Parents/Fockers, Shark Tale and a buddy movie with Eddie Murphy. Could some body tell the man it’s not ‘Playing Against Type’ if they’re the only roles he’s played in over a decade? / De Niro, Pacino and 50 Cent. Did you know that between them, they have 13 Billboard Music Awards, 7 Billboard R&B/Hip Hop Awards, and Thirteen Grammy Award nominations? / A celebrity! (But who….? A Spice Girl, perhaps?) / No matter how wrong I’m likely to be, I don’t even want to know if this isn’t Kiefer Sutherland…. / I’m going with ‘The young priest apprentice from Luc Besson’s ‘The Fifth Element’ ”. / No idea at all. Um…. can I buy a vowel?? / Oh, look. It’s Robert De Niro, depressed because he doesn’t have as many Academy Award nominations as Al Pacino, as many Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop Awards as 50 Cent, or the ability to just stay home and relax on the couch like Donnie Wahlberg or John Leguizamo who are also in the film but didn’t go to the premiere. / It’s hard being Robert De Niro. / Oh, and I got to meet Yellow Cap Guy!! Next up, if I can recover, is the movie ‘Tropic Thunder’ this Tuesday…. Other Premieres: / RockNRolla / The X-Files : I Want to Believe / The Dark Knight / Wall-E

I always loved “The Little Rascals,” and got such a kick out of those cute kids. I wanted to create a theme that gave you that whole (old fashioned, antique-ish cute kids getting into mischief,) sort of theme. I’ve had this idea to create a Kissing Booth theme cause I thought it would be both cute and funny. I created a whole series so will probably post more versions later. I hope you enjoy.

I decided to take the 10% Challenge and ended cleaning my RB portfolio up so hopefully it catches every wandering eye. Instead of deleting images, I made them private. This way, it was less heart-breaking, and if for some reason I need them again (someone requests one, or I decide to buy one), then they’re right at my fingertips. So, without too much anxiety, I was able to clean my portfolio quite extensively. Now that my portfolio is freshened up, I’m certain only days will pass before I’m featured on the community page and rolling in the big money. Please enjoy my new crispy and clean portfolio.
