The entrance to our local graveyard, taken a couple of days ago when we had thick freezing fog, it was very eerie in here.
-
This graveyard is really creepy, so many of the graves are opening up!! many are starting to sink into the ground, very eerie in the fog.

Taken at Catherington cemetry. Crocosmias produce dense clumps of upright iris-like foliage. In midsummer this makes a good background for the small, profuse flowers. ‘Lucifer’ is an aptly-named variety because its flowers are the hottest coloured of all – a searing paprika red. The individual blooms are not as big as other crocosmias’, but small-flowered varieties such as this are the hardiest which makes them a wise choice in cold districts. Grown in a flower border, they provide structure and colour.

Look at the state of these graves, all sinking into the gound!, i have to go back here when i have more time to look, some are really opening up, its quite un-nerving being in here, the fog doesnrt help!

Another hand coloured photo from the vaults. This is a flatbed scan of a 10×8 inch photograph that has been printed with two negs just out of register. Then it was doused with various inks and food colourings and scratched and abused with a kitchen scourer before being splattered with gold paint. Tthe Yeh Yeh was burnt in to the surface of the print with a soldering iron….then it’s been allowed to mature for about twenty years before scanning and being uploaded here. Kept it’s colours pretty well I think …. there has been no photoshop work at all done to this… its straight from the scanner.

When Angels walk the clouds… / Sometimes they hit an area, where the cloud is not really carrying. / Then it happens, that a foot breaks through the cloud. And when you look very carefully you might catch a glimpse of it and hear the angels laughing.

Friend, neighbour and fellow Red Bubbler Dave Warren has given the original photograph of Vigil his HDR treatments. / Dave has a wonderful portfolio well worth a visit.

Another of the old graves that appears to be opening up, i swear i could hear someone calling” Let Me out” in a chilling kind of voice! coming out from below, the fog added to the feel

A day in Whitby, on the way up to the Abbey is St Mary’s Church where Bram Stoker penned Dracula. The path through is in places much lower than the grass than weaves around the ancient graves. This was taken at pretty much floor level, with the sun illuminating the grass and headstones.

Could not resist capturing this beautiful grave, the detail and iron work is just superb, you dont see this quality and detail today

the next in my current series of really old hand coloured photographs. this one is one of three and follows this one I posted yesterday Yeh Yeh #1 / the method of colouring it is exactly the same….. lots of ink and cheap paint with lashings of food colourings and a bit of a slap about with a kitchen scourer and hey presto…. a very colourful mess with no readily apperant meaning or purpose except to look pretty and just be itself in perpetuity…......:)

What I admired most about Pere Lachaise was the sculptors’ abilities to show such deep emotion in stone. / Many statues at Pere Lachaise gave me the feeling, the stone itself could weep, or on occasion even laugh with joy. I keep trying to put statues and their emotions into the best light, to tribute to the sculptors, to show them my respect and admiration. I would love very much to honour each statue with the name of its maker. / Unfortunately, not always the makers have left trails of who they were and why they did this or that to a statue. This one is different. This is a detail of the “Monument aux Morts” -Monument to the Dead. It was done by Albert Bartholomé in 1895. / Its base depicts one large female figure watching over a seemingly sleeping couple (holding hands, faces drawn together). On their laps rests one child. / The base alone holds so much detail and feeling, so I shot mostly parts of the monument, though the whole statue deservs reverence. I will not post the whole series here, as this detail is my favourite part of it. The couple, set in stone, lovingly holding hands. Comforting and yet accompanying and giving warmth to each other. Further information about Albert Bartholomé and his life can be found here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albert_Bartholom%C3%A9

Grave stone in cemetery in Tassie Australia. Took this as there are some Cook’s distantly related to us. Also I thought the dry grasses added a quaint touch to the pic. We loved our trip to Tassie at the begining of 2007.

An old cross in a cemetry. Taken from an old slide, cropped slightly and enhanced a little.
-
Poor old grave stone, either pushed over or laid down for safty reasons, i tend to think it was pushed due to the angle and how part of the cross has sunk into the ground, had it been laid to rest it would have been flat. Some people are so disrespectful
