Divine Prayer was featured in the Amazing Graves group on January 29, 2009. An infrared image taken at historic Myrtle Hill Cemetery, which overlooks downtown Rome, Georgia. The early citizens of Rome chose hills for cemeteries because of the flooding of Rome’s three rivers. Opened in 1857, this hillside cemetery covers 25 acres built on 5 terraces and is individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Please don’t copy or download this image. “Verse, fame and beauty are intense indeed, / But death intenser – death is life’s high mead.” John Keats, Why did I laugh tonight? No voice will tell
I am here with you / Do you feel me? / I am here with you / Do you see me? / I am here with you / Do you believe in me? I am here with you / In dark night and despair. I am here with you / In sunlight oh so fair. I am here with you / In tears of sorrow. I am here with you / On every new tomorrow. I am here with you / In times of disaster. I am here with you / In days of happiness and laughter. I am here with you / Feel me! / I am here with you / See me! / I am here with you / Believe in me! Words and photograph by me. / Picture taken at Melaten Cemetery, Cologne, Germany. Your guardians from above are always there. / Just trust and believe in them. / You’re never alone.
The angel asked, as his shoulders were pressed into the stone / Why me? And taken away from the inhabited body, / Like the lyric voice rustling from memory forests, / Childhood rushes toward death, a wind in those woods, / Crashing through trees, dying out, / Settling like a white mist over everything. (Tom Clarke)
Do not cry for me, Mother, seeing me in the grave. This greatest hour was hallowed and thandered / By angel’s choirs; fire melted sky. / He asked his Father:”Why am I abandoned…?” / And told his Mother: “Mother, do not cry…” Magdalena struggled, cried and moaned. / Peter sank into the stone trance… / Only there, where Mother stood alone, / None has dared cast a single glance. (Anna Akhmatova )
Silence: hide yourself, conceal / your feelings and your dreams – / let them rise and set once more / in the abyss of your spirit, / silent, white stars in the night – / wonder at them – and be silent. (Fëdor Tyútchev) /
These stones sinking into time, how far will they drag me with them? / The sea, the sea, who will be able to drain it dry? / I see the hands beckon each drawn to the vulture and the hawk / bound as I am to the rock that suffering has made mine, / I see the trees breathing the black serenity of the dead / and then the smiles, so static, of the statues. (George Seferis)
