“THE OPENING” This image of a Chinese Ricepaper Plant (tetrapanax papyriferus), taken in my back yard against the dark backdrop of a black fence, shows a symbolic “passage of life” scene for me. The whole cycle of the plant (& of life in general) is shown unfolding before our eyes…from the still-closed leaf in the middle pointing upwards, through the dark young leaves to its left & right, to the fully opened, mature leaf which is the main focus of the image; and the older, softening, aged leaf at the bottom. What a privilege to be witness to this journey, this opening of life, from birth to old age.
