My new wolf friend seemed to like having his pictures taken – he stared “up close and personal” right into the lens. I believe it is only fitting to donate the proceeds of the sale of this image to a park that more than 200 wolves call home! :) Donation to charity / 50% of the proceeds of the sale of this image will be donated to Algonquin Park

My new friend posed and wanted me to get his face “right”, although I am still not sure that I did. I tried though. Donation to charity / 50% of the proceeds of the sale of this image will be donated to Algonquin Park

I am not a big fan of Halloween. It has always been a scary night for me. I remember thinking, “What person in their right might would open their door to a knock in the dark of night to someone in a mask on the other side? How do you know who is behind the mask? How do you know it is only a child seeking a treat, and not Michael Myers? or someone else equally frightening?” Or, who is on the other side of the door when your child knocks on that stranger’s door in the dark of the night and nobody is watching?” The holiday is symbolically associated with death and the supernatural. It was originally a pagan festival of the dead. In some areas, October 30 (one day before Halloween) is called Mischief Night, and vandalism often reaches dangerous levels. In Detroit, Michigan, Mischief Night—known there as Devil’s Night—provided the occasion for waves of arson that sometimes destroyed whole city blocks during the 1970s and 1980s. I think it odd that once a year we send our children out in the dark wearing masks in the name of fun and encourage them to threaten a prank or trick against strangers behind closed doors if they do not give our kids a treat… I miss our Orange Villa Bible Church. There, we held fall festivals and encouraged the children to dress in costume. It’s a fun thing and no harm in that. We encouraged non-scary costumes and gave out prizes and had lots of yummy treats for everyone. We had all day festivities and even fireworks in the evening with the whole family attending, eating great food and enjoying each other’s company. Now that is a way I can look forward to celebrating in the light…not in the darkness. There are many ways to have fun. God invented fun and does not want to have us live in sadness bewailing ghosts, skeletons, horror and death. He wants us to dance in the sunshine, celebrate life an revel in the joy of each precious moment. As for me and my household we choose to follow Jesus Christ and live in the light. Hmmmmmm kinda makes you think…It made me think… BAD MOON RISING I see a bad moon rising / I see trouble on the way / I see earthquakes and lightnin’ / I see bad times today Don’t go ‘round tonight / It’s bound to take your life / There’s a bad moon on the rise I hear hurricanes a blowin’ / I know the end is commin’ soon / I fear rivers over flowing / I hear the voice of rage and ruin Don’t go ‘round tonight / It’s bound to take your life / There’s a bad moon on the rise Hope you got your things together / Hope you are quite prepared to die / Looks like we’re in for nasty weather / One eye is taken for an eye Don’t go ‘round tonight / It’s bound to take your life / There’s a bad moon on the rise Don’t go ‘round tonight / It’s bound to take your life / There’s a bad moon on the rise by Creedence Clearwater Revival “Bad Moon Rising” is a 1969 song by Creedence Clearwater Revival, written by John Fogerty. It was the lead single from their album Green River and the group’s breakthrough hit, reaching #2 on the Billboard hot 100 singles chart and #1 on the UK singles chart for three weeks in September 1969. My new wolf friend was determined to teach me how to howl after our shared lunch. He very “tenderly” took half of my sandwich from my offering hand with his mouth, lay it down on the ground and ate it layer by layer, slowly and savoringly, unlike my dog River, who would ALWAYS “wolf down” whatever is offered to her! :) So now he set out, just a few feet away, raised one front leg a tiny bit for emphasis and howled. I got down on all fours, copied the posture and did the same. Obviously he was a little dissatisfied with my learning so he repeated the whole thing another time. And this time he was happy with his pupil. What a patient teacher I had! :) Donation to charity / 50% of the proceeds of the sale of this image will be donated to Nature Canada

This shot was taken last December at the switching on of the towns Christmas lights. The whole town had a very special ceremony, and since I have connections with the church, I got special permission to climb up to the top of the church tower (the fifth tallest parish church spire in England). I got some fantastic shots up there. This is one of them. I also got some of the fireworks later on. Below gathers the town waiting for the parade of lights that marks the beginning of the towns Christmas celebrations. Canon EOS-1Ds Mark ll, 17-35mm wide angle zoom, f/2.8, shutter 1/4 / ISO 160

Setting off fireworks at the local village ‘festa’, which is the maltese word for feast. This was shot with my mid-range zoom lens. It was a handheld shot. 1/10 sec at f4. ISO 200 and focal length 24mm. It was not easy to get this shot but I finally managed to get one I liked. I used to think that it was not possible to get a decent image hand-holding a camera in low light. Sometimes I like it when I prove myself wrong :) I would still rather have had my tripod with me though!!

There were many ducks in the little “live” stream that was surrounded by thick ice and deep snow and I caught three close-ups. Both males were looking towards the less colorful female and she was the only one who tried to look through the ice at her own reflection! So I thought perhaps narcissism does not only exist among mankind…. :) Donation to charity / 50% of the proceeds of the sale of this image will be donated to Nature Canada.
