The Edinburgh International Festival drew to a close on the evening of Sunday 02 September 2007. A massive 4 tons of fireworks were used over the Castle to mark the closing of the festival sponsored by the Bank of Scotland. 4th of July Fireworks as seen from a bridge roadway hundreds of feet off the ground, which made it seem the fireworks were being exploded, quite near. / I have many pictures of just the fireworks exploding, however I thought this one was interesting because of the traffic and all the people crowded as the fireworks show began.
here in townsend like any other place in the US of A, we celebrated the fourth of july with fireworks. / This fireworks show was actually done in a small community that is within the town, area called Big Valley. / Our town fireworks were done on friday night on the fourth, and they had their’s the next night. / I shot this using the “bulb” setting, which i have realized it’s something I need to practice on. It takes just the right timing to get all the light you can and then release the button just as the fireworks explode. there is alittle trial and error for using this method of shooting, especially when what you’re shooting is constantly changing / best if viewed larger :) Shot this in Manual Mode / using bulb setting / Focal length at 17mm / ISO of 1600 / Exposure time at 7 sec / Ev at 0 / F-stop at F11
After a tremendous Fourth of July in the company of this lovely young friend of mine, I wanted to portray our excitement to be part of this glorious land. Through troubles and imperfections, we celebrate this magnificant country… Card:Happy Fourth of July. / /
this was taken last night in knoxville, tn, for the boomsday celebration. boomsday ( i found out 2years after moving here) is the celebration for the last day of summer. the fireworks are shot off the main bridge that leads into knoxville. / about 250,000 people come to watch this firework display. unfortunately last night there wasnt enough wind to blow away the smoke from the fireworks, so getting a “great shot” of the fireworks themselves was virtually impossible. / this smoke was coming off the water after a display had gone off that they shoot from the water. the hole in the smoke was totally awesome, dont have a clue of what caused it. the lights within the hole are from boats on the water viewing the fireworks. you cant really see the bridge they shoot fireworks off of, due to the thick cloud of smoke / even tho disappointing as it was with the smoke not clearing from the show, it was still well worth going to see. if you’re ever in this area around labor day weekend, id recommend taking the time out to view this fireworks show. / best if viewed larger / this has been touched up for me by Marianne Venegoni all she did was remove the boat at the bottom left and the limb that refused to get out of the shot, it hasnt been cropped, she is a master at cloning! The smoke and everything else has not been altered or the effect created, this IS how the smoke was coming off the water. / Thanks for doing this for me :) / this is the original shot… /
This content is designed for workplace viewing. This ones a custom design for my cus , she thinks friday is the best day of the week – i’m sure you’ll agree / friday is time to celebrate especially at knock off time ..
I went to the “best firework show in London town” last night, at Alexandra Palace. It was AMAZING. But in terms of photographing fireworks i had NO idea what i was doing, except that i’d read something about using BULB…even though i don’t know if my camera has this or if it does, how it works. So i set my camera to a long exposure time, and tried desperately to have a steady hand (no tripod!!) which was difficult in the busy crowds!! But i came out with some gorgeous patterns. This one, although not cropped very well, i particularly like…in my mind i can see horses riding waves from left to right…gorgeous. I’ll upload some more to share when i have a chance to shift through them all!! (oh and the image is sideways…but i like it this way!)
Taken January 25, in a hutong in the very center of Beijing. Digital, as is. Tomorrow, January 26th, is Chinese New Year (Spring Festival). Traditionally most celebrating activities take place in the night before New Year. Then, many people shoot off firecrackers everywhere in the city. It’s the night’s spectacular. The very loud sound of firecrackers fills the city. And fireworks light up the night sky. This celebration always lasts from evening till small hours. However this year the sound is not so intensive, probably because of economic reason.

Yesterday night we celebrated the most important Indian festival-Diwali or festival of lights. Diwali--the Hindu festival of lights, is the most popular of all the festivals in India, Diwali or Dīpāvali is a significant festival in Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism, and Jainism. Adherents of these religions celebrate Diwali as the Festival of Lights. They light diyas—cotton string wicks inserted in small clay pots filled with oil—to signify victory of good over the evil within an individual. The festival of Diwali extends over five days. Because of the lights, fireworks, and sweets involved, it’s a great favorite with children. A row of lights: / The name of the festival comes from the Sanskrit word dipavali, meaning row of lights. Diwali is known as the ‘festival of lights’ because houses, shops, and public places are decorated with small earthenware oil lamps called diyas. These lamps, which are traditionally fueled by mustard oil, are placed in rows in windows, doors and outside buildings to decorate them. The lamps are lit to help the goddess Lakshmi(Goddess of wealth) find her way into people’s homes. On the day of Diwali / Deepavali, many wear new clothes and share sweets and snacks. Legend: / In Hinduism, across many parts of India it is the homecoming of Rama after a 14-year exile in the forest and his victory over Ravana. In the legend, the people of Ayodhya (the capital of his kingdom) welcomed Rama by lighting rows (avali) of lamps (dĭpa), thus its name: dīpāwali. Fireworks: / Fireworks are also a big part of the Diwali celebrations, although in recent years there has been a move against them because of noise and atmospheric pollution. Lakshmi puja: / For hinuds the festival honours Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth. Special prayers are held in evening(it’s the most important ritual of Diwali)—people worship Goddess Lakshmi. People start the new business year at Diwali, and some Hindus will say prayers to the goddess for a successful year. Some business communities start their financial year on Diwali and new account books are opened on this day. Hindus will leave the windows and doors of their houses open so that Lakshmi can come in. Rangoli are drawn on the floors – rangoli are patterns and the most popular subject is the lotus flower. This because images of Lakshmi traditionally show her either holding a lotus or sitting on one. There is much feasting and celebration, and the Diwali lamps are regarded as making it easy for Lakshmi to find her way to houses. Gifts: / Like Christmas in the West, Diwali is very much a time for buying and exchanging gifts. Traditionally sweets and dried fruit were very common gifts to exchange, but the festival has become a time for serious shopping-clothes, electronics, cars, two wheelers, gold, silver, kitchen utensils, etc etc. Shops are flooded with people on the eve of festival. It is also best time of year to redecorate home.
