  I got a nice email today from a UK record company asking that i send them a CD of my music… / It’s very premature to say how this will all go, but i must confess it took me by suprise and has made me feel absolutly overjoyed that even the hint of a possibility of being able to make a pro-level CD… / man this could be sooo cooool.. anyways, / all this could turn to dust, and nothing happen, but i thought id have to let people know. As a bonus / here / is an electronic CD of mine you can download. / it has all the neccesary bits and pieces to get the 2 music files, covers and all that so you can burn the cd and have labels and stuff to have a physical cd too….

  The front and back of the CD Booklet The back CD insert And Here Are Some Product Shots of the Cd / My work is featured in the group Woman Appreciation / (Thanks Jerame and Hello Kitty101) I designed this CD cover for a client who is establishing herself as a solo jazz singer after a long career of being in a jazz group since the early 80’s. Rebecca is still recording a few tracks but will be releasing her debut album this year or early next year. The style of her new CD is big band with all the brass and winds! After a photo shoot with over 650 shots, many wardrobe and lighting changes, I narrowed it down to the images shown here. On to Photoshop to design the cover and layout my work. / I designed this cover to really portray my clients best features and attributes and to express her style accordingly. Her bold flair and love for music was as important as expressing her faith. I tied all of that together for her through this design. Enjoy!

  When i release something new, i figure i can guess that the initial sales will be somewhere between hardly mentionable to OVERWHELMING (this way i can satisfy myself that i have a handle on things…LOL!). Regardless of your artform, the reality is that you never know how even your fans will respond. Are they even still fans? Have they moved on to something new? Have you moved on from their expectations? Even on RedBubble we sometimes experience surprising support for works we weren’t even going to add, or disappointing non-responses for things we are really proud of. Ahhhh….the many joys of being an artist. So, it is with a great deal of happiness that i can report that within 24hours of making the SECRET HEALING MEDITATIONS cd available on ebay I have been absolutely SWAMPED with orders from around the globe. Being the control-freakish designer that I am, I mocked up the whole cd cover for them. Anyway, they’ve been manufactured and they sent me a copy.   I have finally got around to posting a journal entry here on RedBubble, you may already have seen my posts on my myspace page and also on the news page at my website. Been busy busy busy… I am really excited about RedBubble – it’s a fantastic opportunity for Australian artists etc, with great exposure and support. One thing I would dearly love feedback on is how people are promoting themselves in order to sell their work – as a poor struggling artist (one of many!) I could really use the sideline income. I have a few design projects underway at the moment, which has kept me away from my illustration work – but there I’m starting some new pieces soon – so keep an eye out. I’ve just completed a revised version of the OhOhChaos gig poster I did for a guy in Belgium – which I will post for sale, I love the typography…There will also be a small copy of my submission to Daydream magazine in the UK – with the theme Left or Right – I found a little pearler of a quote which I was inspired by. I’m hoping also to post some images of a CD design I am working on for a one-man-band in Scotland – it won’t be for sale obviously, but you’ll be able to buy the CD I’m sure. I’m hoping to get really underway with my illustration – so I can hear from everyone about their thoughts and reactions! I’ll be putting together a little promo with them to send around the studios and magazines in an attempt to bring in some work. / Has been tough lately, which I’m sure many people can relate to, no food, no rent, blah blah blah – but its slowly starting to come together now. Fingers crossed! I’d love to hear what everyone thinks of my work – I’ll be searching around checking out what I’ve missed since my last sojurn in the bubble.   No, not about the John Edwards scandal. About archival CDs and DVDs. This is a bit of information that I got from my workshop last week. I’ve always been good about backing up my work. Usually, I burn two discs and store them in different places. My workshop teacher says that this is not good enough. First, one of the saves needs to be to an external hard drive. The second save needs to be to an archival gold CD or DVD. These do not come cheaply as they cost more than a dollar apiece. You also need a special pen to write on them as Sharpies will eat through the discs over time. These discs are supposed to be good for 100 to 400 years. Today, I’m madly copying old files to the new CDs. It’s a good process as I’m also getting rid of crap that I’ll never want to see again, but backed up when I didn’t have all the skill that I have now.

And whilst i’m here and i have your attention, YES i DID finish my artwork for the CD FEATHERS BREATH (for those of you who have indeed lost sleep over it), and once it’s printed, i’ll post pics. Hehehe…i’m very pleased with the result, even though i distracted myself heavily on RB during it’s evolution. Oh, and i also made marmalade…the real stuff, not for the faint hearted. Mmmmm… / Right-eo… / Resume normal programming…

  This is the hardest part…waiting for the first run of CDs. / / I’ve just finished FEATHER’S BREATH, which has a special place in my heart. It’s the first recording i will have released without any electronic instrumentation…just flute and voice, and the waiting is torturous! I’m not a naturally paranoid person, but when i’m waiting for the first run of a new CD…i start hearing all of these annoying, pestering voices of “what if’s” sneeking their way into my head. AHHHHGGGGG…time to get seriously distracted! PLEASE DISTRACT ME, my friends…i implore you!

  The Ottawa Xpress has finally acknowledged the existence of a much ignored musician here in Canada’s capital, by including Lindsay Ferguson in their “Best of 2007 Ottawa” Survey!! / There are a couple of Categories that I think Lindsay’s new Album ‘Sound’ should have been included in & they are as follows: Best Rock/Pop/Dance/Other Album & Best New Musical Artist or Group.
