  • AS IS Canon PowerShot S3 IS 6mp “Autumn Drive on the Pig Trail” U.S. Arkansas State Highway 23 S. Better known as the Pig Trail Bypass. I love to shoot fall colors right after the rain; the moisture saturates the colors, and makes them POP. /

  • “Rainy Day On The Mulberry River” / Fall has arrived!!!!! As Is…...... / Canon PowerShot S3 IS Sometimes during the fall season, Arkansas is subjected to rain storms rolling in. It makes the light for photography a bit more difficult, but it doesn’t dampen my spirit because it sure adds mood. With the cool air meeting the / warn air, in comes the fog, adding a warmer touch to the otherwise bold colors of this fall scene along the Mulberry River. This shot was taken by turning off from Highway 23 South, also known as the “Scenic Pig Trail Bypass”, on to Arkansas State Highway 112. A beautiful highway for a fall scenic drive, as it twists and turns along the Mulberry River and its many tributaries. / / Featured photo in Stream Crossings 11-16-2008 / Featured Photo and Artist in Country Bumpkin 11-16-08

  • “Clouds on the Water, Fire Near the Sky” / Purchase a Mouse Pad of this image I happened onto this gorgeous sunrise over the White River at a time when the water was at its lowest. • ~ Morning Has Broken ~ Ah when it comes to photography, that first morning light is the tops!! I enjoy shooting the intense light, and darkness, and illuminating the colors with the back lighting of the morning sun. / This is one of my favorite spots to capture that type of light. • Emerald Paradise As Is… / Canon PowerShot S3 IS Rainbow Springs Florida’s third largest spring, Rainbow Springs pump 600 million gallons of water daily and serves as the head water to the pristine Rainbow River. The property was acquired by the State Park Service in 1990 and is slowly being allowed to revert to its natural state. / Beautiful floral gardens surround the spring, and the area is immensely popular in the spring when the azaleas are in bloom. The state also acquired Rainbow Springs State Campground, located nearby, which was formerly privately owned. From the campground, you can tube or canoe the crystalline waters of Rainbow River, or fish for large mouth bass and other freshwater species. / A nature trail provides a lovely walk past two waterfalls and the azalea gardens, and meanders along the Rainbow River. / /

  • ~ Rising Up ~ Its so refreshing to see the spring flowers after a long winter season, to watch the new colors rise to the calling of a new spring. / In my yard, Tulips bloom from late March through April, and / a few on into mid to late May . / Planting anywhere from 3 inches to 7inches deep, extends the blooming season considerably. I plant some a bit shallow, / for early blooms. Planting at different depths will insure there is a pretty patch gracing the landscape somewhere. • Beauty Of A Thorn This well-known thistle is a true nightmare to all the local farmers. At one point I think there was even a law passed saying that people could be fined if it was found growing unchecked on their property. / It is such an invasive plant that it will take over an entire pasture or field, and farm animals won’t/can’t eat it, and it’s a real problem in the hay. / On the other hand, its a blessing for the many butterflies that migrate through this area, and it provides much-needed food and energy for the pretty little creatures that have such long flights ahead of them, or maybe are just at the end of their life spans. / I have also noticed that hummingbirds love it as well. Being a photographer, I do love its exotic blooms and the many photo opportunities it provides. / The sad but true thing is, the only way to control it is to destroy it completely! It’s amazing that something so beautiful and so useful for the nectar lovers, is also such a thorn in the side for the farmers. / Photo taken along a road side in NW Arkansas, USA. • Settling Along The Buffalo Abraham Villines, and his children were among the earliest pioneer families in the Buffalo River valley. Abraham’s grandson William built this log house in 1850 for his new bride, Rebecca. Four years later their son James was born here. James Villines (1854-1948) was known as ” Beaver Jim” for his trapping abilities. After his marriage in 1880, he moved from this home to his own farmstead across the Buffalo River. In the mid-twentieth century, Villines family descendants used this house as a barn..with the chimney still attached. Today the notched, and hand- hewn logs recall the pioneers that carved their homes out of the Buffalo River wilderness. Ponca Arkansas, USA

  • I am so happy to see the Lotus blooming on our 1 acre pond, planted these last year as seedlings. They are now filled with hundreds of buds, and blossoms!! / Most everything else is withering in the hot summer sun, so I find myself looking these to death! LOL! / / July 17 2009 Lotus, elumbo nucifera flower A common misconception is referring to the lotus as a water-lily (Nymphaea), an entirely different plant as can be seen from the centre of the flower, which clearly lacks the structure that goes on to form the distinctive circular seed pod in the Nelumbo nucifera. It should also be noted that water-lilies come in colors of white to yellow where as the lotus only in hues of pink. / NOW THIS IS SOMETNING I DID NOT KNOW ABOUT THE LOTUS! / When I purchased the three seedling the person at the nercery told me one was red, one white, one pink, they were all pink! So I am now just really happy I purchased a true Lotus! / The reason I purchased seedlings is because a mature plant is around $70.00! OUCH!!!!!!!!! A bit steep for this country bumpkin :O) / The roots of Nelumbo nucifera are planted in the soil of the pond or river bottom, while the leaves float on top of the water surface. The flowers are usually found on thick stems rising several centimeters above the water. The plant normally grows up to a height of about 150 cm and a horizontal spread of up to 3 meters, but some unverified reports place the height as high as over 5 meters. The leaves may be as large as 60 cm in diameter, while the showy flowers can be up to 20 cm in diameter. / The distinctive dried seed heads, which resemble the spouts of watering cansphoto, are widely sold throughout the world for decorative purposes and for dried flower arranging. MORE INTERESTING FACTS! The flowers, seeds, young leaves, and “roots” (rhizomes) are all edible. In Asia, the petals are used sometimes for garnish, while the large leaves are used as a wrap for food. In Korea, the leaves and petals are used as a tisane. Yeonkkotcha is made with dried petals of white lotus and yeonipcha is made with the leaves. The rhizome (called ǒu in pinyin Chinese, ngau in Cantonese, bhe in Hindi, renkon (in Japanese), yeongeun ( in Korean) is used as a vegetable in soups, deep-fried, stir-fried, and braised dishes. Petals, leaves, and rhizome can also all be eaten raw, but there is a risk of parasite transmission (e.g., Fasciolopsis buski): it is therefore recommended that they be cooked before eating. / Lotus rootlets are often pickled with rice vinegar, sugar, chili and/or garlic. It has a crunchy texture with sweet-tangy flavours. In Asian cuisine, it is popular with salad, prawns, seasame oil and/or coriander leaves. Lotus roots have been found to be rich in dietary fiber, vitamin C, potassium, thiamin, riboflavin, vitamin B6, phosphorus, copper, and manganese, while very low in saturated fat.[citation needed] The stamens can be dried and made into a fragrant herbal tea called liánhuā cha in Chinese, or (particularly in Vietnam)[citation needed] used to impart a scent to tea leaves. The lotus seeds or nuts (called liánzĭ, 蓮子; or xian liánzĭ, in Chinese) are quite versatile, and can be eaten raw or dried and popped like popcorn, phool makhana. They can also be boiled until soft and made into a paste, or boiled with dried longans and rock sugar to make a tong sui (sweet soup). Combined with sugar, lotus seed paste becomes one of the most common ingredients used in pastries such as mooncakes, daifuku, and rice flour pudding. Various parts of the lotus are also used in traditional Asian herbal medicine. Borrowed from: / Wikipedia on line free dictionary These are flowering by the hundreds on the pond, and I am shooting them todeath!!!!!!! / Can you ever have too many shots of such a gorgeous flower? / I had no idea I had purchased a plant with so many food, and madicinal values!!!!

  • This is a wild sunflower that grows all along our Arkansas highways, it is much smaller than the tame verities, but it still give a big impact on its beauty. Photographed along Arkansas highway 23 south. / / / / Sunny Face could cheer up any area in your home where you may not get a lot of sunlight :)

  • ~ Every Cloud Has Its Silver Lining ~ And gives us such beauty to see! I always enjoy the days with those big fluffy clouds in the sky, and enjoy seeing those beams as the sun hides behind them. / A simple beauty of our natural world, Enjoy!

  • Just a simple forest scene on a foggy August morning, knowing that the fog will be rolling in, is good inspiration to be up, and out early. I really enjoy the simplicity, and the beauty of nature. / August 2009 -

  • / High Dramatic colors added in GIMP 2 to the already very dramatic autumn scene. / I wanted an image that would just jump right out of your screen, LOL! I think I accomplished that!! This old Arkansas homestead is made from rough sawed oak slabs, and it is done in the board, and laith technique, and style. The rough sawed oak is put up green, and as it cures it woud shrink, and leave cracks. Once the shrinking had finished they would come along with a smaller strip to cover those cracks. You might be asking, why put it up green, then? Well, the answer is…..once the rough sawn oak seasons, it is almost impossible to drive a nail through it.

  • Little Red is in love! tehe! Little Red is a young maturing rooster, and with his first hen following, he is proud! The hens will have nothing to do with the roosters unless thay provide well for them, and that means finding them great food to eat! / The roosters will actually find big fat jucie bugs, and call the hens over for dfinner. /

  • Love those golden highlight, and the slight fog in the morning forest, that first light of a brand new day…...... / Canon PowerShot S3 IS / Editing in GIMP2
