During a severe storm in Santa Maria, California, USA. Twin downstrokes and one of the last shots I took that evening. I was ecstatic to see this shot come off of my camera. This photograph has put me on the map and is one of my best sellers. This was taken with a 30 second exposure set to f/22 at 24mm. There is a t-shirt available also under “clothing”.

  • Wish I’d met Ellaine properly, to paint her. (But the purpose had been a surprise.) I’d seen her once, when she looked in on the art class, late one day, to briefly speak to her mother. / / The painting was done from a photo, sent via email. / Oh well!!! It was good experience!! / / So pleased that Cathy and Ellaine came and took a look at my exhibition. / They were the last of the visitors. /

  • Cathie Tranent Talks Creativity
    by Jo O'Brien

Questions by Jo O’Brien / ^Answers by Cathie Tranent...

Questions by Jo O’Brien / Answers by Cathie Tranent How does being a creative person and pursuing your creativity affect other aspects of your life? As a part time wage slave and full time wife and mother, I find the pursuit of my “artistic” side gives me some “Cathie” time, that I might not necessarily have taken otherwise. I have always been an “average” person, average grades, sporting non performer, and to find something that people tell me I’m good at is a real boost to self!! I am being very careful to make sure that the thronging masses are cared for, fed, watered and wearing clean clothes, but I can assure you that my housework standards have slipped a little since the advent of my RB addiction. Tell us about one person or moment that has made your time on redbubble particularly special or meaningful Only one? There have been so many amazing moments … my first sale to someone I didn’t know, the inspiration and fun I have shared with so many people, meeting on-line friends in person for the very first time … making new friends almost every day. Show & tell us about five works on redbubble that have moved or inspired you The first one would have to be Danny’s Binalong Avenue. I think it touches a chord in all our memories, of Christmases past, and family scattered. Absolutely anything from Incognita. Again – a little bit of Cog in all of us I think. TBO’s Geishas. All of them – traditionally beautiful, yet somehow modern and empowered. I can’t split the next two – so they’ll just have to be 4a and 4b. / No Frills Art and Ruby Red have shown me that having a social conscience and making people aware of the big issues doesn’t have to mean standing on a street corner with a sign. The Pen is Mightier than the Sword 3 / Rhinobra I’m also amazed at the rate at which this pair upload quality thought provoking work. And last, but by no means least, the other most inspiring people on this site would have to be the people who started this amazing Redbubble thing, the Helvetica Cliche- . Not only for having the vision, but for employing the right people to help it grow, teethe and grow some more. (And besides that – they still find time to make art themselves!!) Keep an eye on Cathie’s Journal. She’ll be posting a survey like this too soon. I wonder who she’ll interview?

  • Cathy's Rose
    by Melissa Mailer-Yates

I lost my sister when she was 42, but I still have her rose bush in my garden and it continues to produce the most fabulous flowers which are always a joy to paint.

Ronnie Purcell emailed this to me last week and I wasn’t quite sure why? / I think it was a call for help. Cathie T is an exceptional artist, writer and photographer, she deserves to be sainted and possibly given a Nobel Peace Prize. I am writing this because if I don’t Cathie T who is on the other side of my office door will refuse to leave if I don’t. Not only won’t she leave but if I try and make a any effort to depart she will beat me within an inch of my life with the large baseball bat she is brandishing. I can hear her outside dragging it on the floor talking to her self. Repeating things like: “I am proud / I am an artist / recognise me or / I’m remove your pelvis” And “Ronnie, Ronnie / write me in a story / if not all they’ll find / will be red and gory” Frightening stuff really. / I’m starting to wonder if she had anything to do with the disappearing animal’s from the zoo. She is from Adelaide you know? Cathie T was born on Christmas day in a stable just outside of Nazareth, her closet friends were sheep……. / …..Hang on I got side tracked It sounds like she’s peeling the plasterboard off the wall . Start again.. Cathie T was the only daughter of Santa Clause and Mary Christmas who grew up with elves and pixies and wild reindeer… / ….. sorry, I keep stuffing up. I do believe she’s eating the books from the waiting room book case. / / This whole born on the 25th of December has got me rattled. Cathie T is a lovely person who encourages others and lives life to the fullest. Check out her portfolio it is full of stuff. Now if I can only get to a phone and call the cops I might see Christmas as well. Oh no… damn…. She found the cat. December 2007

For my featured page, I’ve used one of my favourite ways to look around Redbubble, started with one tag, (in this case, spirit) which lead me to another and then something different and so on. I soon noticed a pattern forming in the work I was drawn to – richly textured pictures, blurring the line between photography and drawing – not genre specific but just a feast for the eyes. This journey has certainly added a few new artists to my watchlist – I hope you find something here you like too! Cathie Tranent

I had the absolute pleasure of shooting Cathy Cavolo’s band on Saturday. We spent a while trudging through alleys in Kensington playing dress-ups, and later on, I shot the band performing at Hardimans Pub. They are a fun outfit, and definitely recommended for that crazy party you may have coming up. • This unusual botanical photograph is of an open and empty seed pod of the Podolobium scandens (Netted Shaggy Pea), an Australian wildflower with a scrambling and twining growth habit. This shot was made in wonderful springtime morning light at Grant’s Head Nature Reserve at Lake Cathie, south of Port Macquarie, NSW, Australia. I am really taken by the metallic look of the pod. Camera: Fuji S5500; Macro Mode; Manual Priority; f/4; 1/800sec; 6mm; WB Daylight; ISO 100; Hand held. / Processing: Photoshop CS. Enjoy! WILDFLOWERS: PEAS / (Click the links!) • Guadalupe Dunes

One of my personal favorite places to photograph. Rancho Guadalupe Dunes Preserve is a beautiful spot. Movies such as the first Ten Commandments (silent movie), Pirates of the Caribbean II, Hidalgo and many others have been filmed here. This beach is located just outside of Guadalupe, California.

  • Striking Broadway
    by Cathy Gregg

During a thunder storm in Santa Maria, California, USA. This storm did not produce as much lightning as seen in my other shots but I was happy that I captured this beautiful single stroke of lightning. This was taken with a 30 second exposure set to f/22 at 24mm with an ISO setting of 200.

Yesterday I was privileged to meet the delightful Cathie on a whirlwind weekend trip to Melbourne. Melbourne came to the party with some beautiful winter sunshine and we set off to also meet up with the lovely Anne van Alkemade / / First we got the kiwi jokes out of the way while passing this spunk rat. Mr Cranky Pants was not impressed. Then Kylie passed by to say hi :) There was remnants of last nights dinner…. And this gorgeous lass. Then this guy showed up from Circuside and I over heard the littleun in bottom corner say “I don’t care how big your sword is, you aint getting my popcorn” Shame I missed the part when he said, “okay maybe you can”, it was when I took this one, I think? Or maybe this one… No,no I think this one. There was some lunch music. Always under the watchful eye of this guy, I’m not sure I trust him…. But most importantly, 3 people came together, whom without their creative sharing on redbubble, where their friendships were made, their paths may never had crossed. What a day, thanks girls. :)) Cheers / Cathrynxx
