  • Devil Cat
    by kalaryder

    US$3.99

“The Devil Cat Catamaran Passenger Ferry was built in Hobart in 1997 and had a capacity of 900 passenger, 240 cars and could run fully loaded at 43 knots or 80 kmh. Unloaded could achieve 50.2 knots or 93 kmh. It was operated by TT Line Company from Melbourne Australia across the Bass Strait to Tasmania The vessel was powered by four Ruston 20 RK270 conventional medium-speed diesel engines and had two Caterpillar generators in each hull. It was constructed from marine-grade aluminium alloys. The superstructure was supported on vibration damping mounts. The design was characterised by long slender waterborne hulls each subdivided into eight watertight compartements, with very little buoyancy at the bow. As each hull encountered a wave it tended to ‘pierce’ through rather than ride ove it.” We only went on this cat once, but it was the smoothest ride, fast and fun, although we have heard the opposite. Unfortunately this cat no longer operates between Melbourne and Tasmania. Taken on 35mm film

  • Catamaran and Temple
    by David Clark

    US$3.99–US$28.50

A typical Sri Lankan fishing boat and an island temple – off the coast of Hikkaduwa. This area was devastated by the Tsunami four years ago. This temple mostly survived and the onland temple on the beach was devastated but the Buddha images inside were untouched. For miles on either side of the temple everything was destroyed and thousands perished. The temple is now one of the major pilgramage places in this part of Sri Lanka. I went there with my friends who were paying respects after successful surgery on their youngest son. Featured in ImageWriting: Dec 22nd – 2008

  • Take A Little Trip On Me!
    by Bluenorther

    US$3.99–US$91.20

Our Catamaran. The tour taken on this was terrific. From here we saw the magnificent coastline with the many pristine beaches, did our snorkeling which was amazing and then were whisked to a stop for lunch. We saw some baby sea turtles that were under protection and had a wonderful meal. Branches of coral were washed up on the beach and they were amazing. I was able to add to my growing sea shell collection which has shells from all now even from New Zealand. I recommend this form of travel. No seasickness on this boat all. You can get up and walk around and the crew was highly entertaining. We had dolphins swimming beside us but they were impossible to get a shot of. There was also a mature sea turtle but he dove before any of the many cameras got a shot. Truly a delightful trip and way to travel.

Merimbula – the jewel of the Sapphire Coast. Merimbula is a coastal resort town on the far south coast of New South Wales, Australia. If it’s sun, surf, sand, fishing, golf, bushwalking, fine dining and stunning coastal scenery you’re after, then this is a place to put on your “must do” list. A photographer’s paradise, too. If you’d like to know more about Merimbula and the Sapphire Coast, you’re welcome to contact me by email or bubblemail for information. I have an intimate knowledge of this area due to visiting it on a regular basis since 1987.
