Lovely ‘59 Potiac Catalina, AAC Summer Nationals ‘08. My favourite of the day, there for judging so with hood and trunk left open sadly this was my nicest shot of it. Guy also had an almost mint original Falcon there as well-and three others at home!

Catalina The superb Catalina flying boat, captured at Bournemouth Air Festival 2008. The Catalina was built by US manufacturer Consolidated Aircraft during the 1930s and 1940s and is probably the most successful flying boat ever built. The aircraft was very versatile and during WWII, Catalinas were used as anti-submarine warfare aircraft, patrol bombers, convoy escorts, search and rescue aircraft, and transports. Even today, over seventy years after its first flight, the aircraft continues to fly as an airtanker in aerial firefighting operations all over the world. Despite what the name may suggest, the Monasterio is in fact a convent, and still in use by the order of nuns who founded it in 1580. It is a city within a city, with rambling narrow stone streets such as this meandering around the site, located in central Arequipa, Peru. The main streets are named after the major cities of Spain, and each has a different character about it, ranging from the deep blue of the sky, to brilliant white, and the stark reds seen here.
9×12 Acrylic Sketch: We were anchored in Avalon Harbor and coming back down to the boat after breakfast we ran into this fog bank covering the harbor.

Captured this scene at the Military Aviation Museum in Virginia Beach, VA. The amount of aircraft on display in this museum is truly impressive. Later that day the owner took the P-51 Mustang for a flight which included a couple of low-level highspeed passes. The aircraft to the right in this image is a PBY Catalina. / Taken with the Nikon D300 and Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 lens. Light HDR processing applied.

I took a hike today and the weather was perfect. The only disappointment was that there were not many wildflowers around. Oh well, I guess you can’t have everything. Taken with my Nikon D-80, 18-135 mm lens, CP filter. Catalina State Park is just north of Tucson, AZ. BEST VIEWED LARGER

Never ceases to amaze me how a large bird like the Pelican can take off from water and fly so gracefully. This scene was taken as the sun was setting at Windemere Dam near Mudgee NSW Australia.
