This is Pussy Willow – the runt of the litter. She lives in Phoenix, Arizona. She set this shot up for me as I was busy trying on her owners shoe collection!
Unlike my 2 other younger pusses this mature siamese gent, Tolly, just completely ignores me when I crawl around the floor sticking a camera in his face! As with our tabby, Mona, Tolly’s name comes from my favorite books, the Tales of the City series by Armistead Maupin. Tolly is short for Tolliver after the character Michael (Mouse) Tolliver.

Scratch, our Siamese, photographed with what would on a normal day be his dinner. Birds were shot at a local pet store and added in Photoshop. As the birds were photoraphed in cages, the bars they were behind had to be cloned out, and this took a lot of time and patience. Addition of shadows and direction of lighting effects were important factors to getting the image to look realistic.
Our Siamese, Scratch, all but the eyes converted to BW

This is probably the last of my kitty pix as I just got bored taking pictures of them once their voices dropped. And that’s probably why they treat me with total indifference these days. In fact, just the other day Scratch finished his water (we don’t give him milk because he never deserves it), looked up at me and said: “SillyBoy… or whatever they call you on that bubble thing… you could have been great if you’d just kept on shooting us…” So I told him I’d shoot him if he didn’t shut up. This is Scratch, from the same shoot as CAT in BW. He’s a pedigree Blue Point and he knows it and has since grown to be a total pain in the butt. Our other Siamese is Pepsi who is a dime a dozen Apple Head and doesn’t know it and is totally OK. But he’s not as photogenic. Such is life. Grin & bear it!
Scratch reminded me this evening that there was one picture of him that I hadn’t posted. I had told him before that it was a fluke and that he wasn’t really looking through the viewfinder… so he jumped up on the chest and did it again and snapped the shutter this time. Pity I didn’t have the camera out for that one, but I could hardly refuse to post this after such a display of whit. Silly, silly cat!

My beloved Loopin as regal as any aristocrat.
Ink drawing on cartridge paper, of Chang, half Abyssinian and half Siamese, and Chinky, half Siamese and half Persian. / / Chinky and Chang feature in my 2009 Cats calendar.
Created with graphite pencills and powdered graphite. Pastel chalk was used on the eyes. Drawn on Strathmore Bristol 300 series paper, which is super smooth and thick. Based on a picture of my blue point siamese, Sasha. She was a lost or abandoned cat that found her way to me. See a picture of her I plan to donate a portion of sales of any of my cat pictures to our local cat rescue organization SOCKS (Save Our Cats and Kittens). They are a great non-profit organization and no kill shelter that rescues hundreds of cats from being euthanized every year. Bella is a Siamese cat and she is best friends with Murphy who is a Ragdoll kitten. They have been the best of friends from the very first day they were introduced to one another. They play, eat and sleep together, bringing much joy to our home. This photo was taken with natural light that was to the left. The natural light is the very best to pick up the blue eyes. Bella is an intelligent and loving little girl. When I found her at our local animal rescue, she was less than a year old and had one very weak little baby. She had been found living out in the woods , was very underweight and in very sad shape. The minute I saw her, she looked straight in my eyes, so I asked the attendant if I could hold her. She simply relaxed in my arms, started purring. and our two hearts sang together that blissful morning. An hour later, we were on our way home. She has proven to be the most wonderful house cat who will be my alarm clock if I am not up by 6AM. She will start nibbling on my arm and nuzzling me to get up and face the day. Also, she will scold the other cats if they are found scratching the furniture and is always so polite when she is fed. She will not start eating until I put the food in front of her and stroke her back. All of this is amazing to me since she was living as if she were ferrel, but she has the manners of a true little lady. Murphy I met as a tiny little kitten who was the only one who survived out of the litter. For whatever reason, his mother would have nothing to do with him and my friend Kristy was force feeding him every two hours. He would not have lived without her insistance that he eat. But still, he was not thriving. The day that I met him, it was like my heart was touched with how tiny and helpless he was. I sat right down on the floor and picked him up and settled him on my chest, over my heart and talked to him for the next two hours, petted his little head and and back also fed him with an eye dropper. The next day, I came back to see him again and he was a little stronger. Kristy said that he was finally beginning thrive. I came back often and several weeks later, Kristy was leaving on a trip and asked if I would take care of little Murphy while she was gone. He was still such a tiny little thing, only two months old now. I brought him home and immediately, he was taken in by all of the other cats. The perfect addition to our home right from the very first. He has turned out to be the most active and rambuncious of all of the cats, but comes to lie next to me at night. I believe he thinks I am his Mum. 450 views ~November 2009 Featured in top ten of “Playful Interactiions” in PLAYFUL PHOTOGENIC PETS group ~ 17 April 2009 / Featured in EYE CONTACT ~ 19 June 2009 / Featured in top ten for “Cat’s Eyes” challenge ~ 19 June 2009 / Second place in Best Friends challenge ~ PLAYFUL PHOTOGENIC PETS ~ September 2009 / Featured in ANIMAL PHOTOGRAPHY ~23 October 2009 / All the images and text contained herein may not be reproduced, copied, edited, published, transmitted or uploaded in any way without my express written permission. I shot this years ago on Ilford monochrome film… don’t remember what speed it was… don’t think anyone really cares much anymore. But I SO hope someone asks me how I did the BW conversion… Thanks for looking!

Also, her fur has darkened so much and feels as if it is a rich and luxurious satin. She brings me joy every single day and is my little soul mate.. But to those who are not quite so blind, they are not only precious lives, but also very special beings, blessed with the ability to touch our imagination and lead us into a world of true magic and wonder.” ~ Michael Mountain, President , Best Friends Animal Society Bella and Murphy are best friends. Every morning after they have had their breakfast, they will sit and groom themsellves as contented cats often do. Then you will find them wresting about on the floor or turning the house into a race track, running from one end to the other. Naps together are their afternoon pastime, as they contentedly find a spot to have their long daily snooze.. The Siamese is considered by many to be a “natural” breed – one that developed without the intervention of man. Pictures of seal-point Siamese cats appear in the manuscript “Cat-Book Poems”, written in Siam (now Thailand) sometime between 1350 and 1700. / There are a great many legends regarding the origin of the breed – especially the crossed eyes and kinked tails. According to some of the legends, the Siamese cat guarded Buddhist temples and was considered sacred – and was only kept by priests and royalty. The first Siamese cats appeared in the West in the mid-to-late 1800s. Though initially described as “an unnatural, nightmare kind of cat”, they quickly became popular with fanciers, even though these early cats were delicate and subject to health problems. These first cats had crossed eyes and kinked tails, characteristics which are now considered faults, and have almost completely disappeared as a result of careful breeding. Photographs from the late 1880s of some of the first cats to be imported from Siam show the thick, round heads and solid, muscular bodies that distinguish the Traditional Siamese from today’s show Siamese. Bella and Murphy, best friends! / As the Siamese breed has developed over the years, some breeders have preferred the rounder look, while others have preferred a slender look with a wedge-shaped head. During the 1950s and 1960s, the differences became even more pronounced: show breeders developed an extremely slender cat with a very long, triangular head, almond-shaped eyes, and flaring ears. This look caught on with show-oriented Siamese breeders and with judges. Other breeders, who did not like the new look, continued to breed the larger, round-headed cats. These “Traditional” breeders found that their cats were no longer competitive in the show ring and stopped showing. A great many also stopped registering their cats, though they continued their breeding programs with their existing purebred Siamese stock. Today, Traditional Siamese cats are somewhat rare, though they seem to be making a comeback, as the breed is popular with pet buyers. It should be pointed out that Traditional Siamese are purebred cats, descended from the original cats imported from Siam. A pointed cat that you find in the shelter, though it may look Siamese, is probably not a Traditional Siamese cat. Enough purebred Siamese cats have interbred with domestic cats over the years that the gene which creates the pointing pattern is found in a large number of cats, and some may look Siamese when in fact they have very little Siamese blood in them. / All the images and text contained herein may not be reproduced, copied, edited, published, transmitted or uploaded in any way without my express written permission.
