Buy A Card...Help Save A Life : )

I’ve been wanting to do this for a while now..I find this gallery is overflowing with cat photos…now that’s not necessarily a bad thing, but I feel as though they are taking all the attention away from my other photography. I’ve been finding myself only shooting cats because that’s what’s mostly viewed, but now I feel that the two should be seperate and that I want to work on my portfolio. I hope you all understand ; ) So, from now on, this gallery will be only CAT PHOTOGRAPHY…(for all the people who have added me to a watchlist, I will be uploading my other photography to another gallery soon) I will slowly be deleting photos that are NOT of cats.. *ALSO : BUY A CARD, HELP SAVE A LIFE I donate everthing I make here on Redbubble to my hometown’s SPCA:) / I am from a small city, but the stray & unwanted animal population is VERY high and they are in desperate need of help! Here is their Blog for more about the Miramichi SPCA Thanks everyone for the love and support throughout the short months I’ve been here!! :D

Several of you have asked me how Tilly, my cat, saved my life. I came home from a night shift and Tilly and I breakfasted then I went to bed. Two hours later she was sitting on my upper chest poking me in the eye. I awoke grumbling only to find the flat stinking of gas. I must have nudged a cooker gas tap on during breakfast. Luckily it was summer and had it been winter one electrical spark from the heating boiler would have had me and probably the peeps in the other flats sitting on a cloud learning to play the harp. Thanks Tilly

about 10 minutes ago my brother started to shout from the bottom of the stairs / “NOO NOOOO” his voice was full of fear, i never heard that sort of tone used before. i ran from my room to investigate, he was almost crying “NOOO NOT CHUFF, NOO!” when i heard the name “chuff” i knew something had happened to our cat. I saw my brother going to the front door, it was open, it was after dusk outside and the wind was blowing. i briskly reached the bottom of the stairs, my brother now in tears and sobbing “noo, nooo” I went to Rena, she was standing in the dim light with a cat in her arms, a dead cat. the wind was wild and Ian stood beside her. my brother collapsed on a garden chair roaring in tears. i could barely ask “WHAT HAPPENED?”, i just got a reply, “SHE’S DEAD ZARAH, SHE’S DEAD”. I broke down, Cal was crying, Rena was standing with the dead cat in her arms, blood dripping everywhere and i was crying on her shoulder. Ian stood and cursed the person who did it. The wind was still blowing wildly and we were standing with our clothes and hair blowing, bare foot crying our hearts out for the little cat, that didn’t deserve this. i touched its head and little blood droplets fell on my fingers. it made me cry even more. my mother told us “IT’S OK, SHE DIED INSTANTLY” but she was crying too and nothing could console us. my brother was angry. he stood up, tears and sobs and came to chuff to take another look. we all stood huddled outside the front door. it was open and the things inside the door were beginning to be blown around by the wind. our tears came in bursts, and cries too. then from sheer fright cal shouted “CHUFF!!!!” he sounded like he was shocked, i looked up from my mother’s shoulder, i saw a cat running in through the kitchen door. it was unmistakable. brown tabby marks. black spots and patches. it was chuff alright. she came back from the dead. my mother let a huge magnanimous laugh out of her and i threw my head back in laughter too. Cal went after her calling her like a baby, “CHUFF< COME HERE < COME ON CHUFF” Rena wasn’t holding chuff in her arms, it was tigger, out neighbours cat. She was holding the empty body of a little 9 year old’s cat. I carried the cat to their house, wrapped in a towel. I didn’t even put shoes on, i was crying for their loss, didn’t think. as i knocked on the door another burst of tears came rolling out even though i tried to hide it. i felt so bad for the poor animal. Chuff is alive. I can’t describe how I feel right now. I had prepared myself to face the death of my cat, I had EMOTIONALY prepared myself and then I realised that it was all a hoax of some sort. It’s the most horrible feeling ever. I love you CHUFF

When I studied photography, many of my teachers would share with myself and fellow students why a photo didn’t quite work, what would help, be it little or large. No-one on redbubble offers any constructive criticism. It’s a little bit ‘Disney’. I wouldn’t go slit my wrists if some-one suggested an alternative appreciation of an image i’d captured. I suppose it’s a little like “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.” However, I don’t think you are a bad person for suggesting that a picture of someone’s fucking pussycat should maybe not ‘cut it’ on a website that claims to be an ‘Online Artistic Community’. Reputation Anyone?

Actually I’m not a real cat fan myself. Well let me get that right I love cats they’re a gorgeous animal. I’m just not a fan of the feral cat or irresponsible cat ownership. Responsible cat ownership rocks and I’m sure many people agree with me including cat owners. Anyway I felt like drawing a big orange cat on a shirt. Oh and I am disgusted by cat torture or any animal torture for that matter. Yes China I’m looking at you.

I signed up to RedBubble 2 days ago – in the sudden aftermath of losing of a dearly beloved cat. I’ve been bowled over by the kind comments on my images and the friendly folks here. So I thought I would share some good news… we have a new kittycat ! This morning we adopted a 8 month old “teenage” kitten as a playmate for our 11 month old ginger and white boy (yes, he’s the one in the photos). No name yet… here he is in his daddy’s arms shortly after we brought him home. Rose

These where shot the day before Fall, 2007. / My cat, Tybalt, had just died that morning, (14 years old). / Together with my extreme dissatisfaction with taking pictures of the normal and everyday, I found my grief pulling my gaze upwards. Straight up. / Standing directly under the edges of these gigantic trees I shot from the ground through the leaves directly straight up into the sky. / The lower the leaves, that darker they are. The higher the leaves, the brighter they are. The effect was caused by the sun setting behind a hill. / These where very very tall trees, (see number one for size comparison), so the very tips of the branches and leaves are what caught the fading light. / At the end of this road, as will all roads, life is for the living. / Continue here. / http://www.flickr.com/photos/jefharris/sets/72157602167749401/

Guys! I had two sales of late. The snowball is rolling and the avalanche is growing! Lookout below! Yep I sold 2 shirts. This one: / I was really hoping to sell “Pawnstar” and it went yesterday. (Cheers to the buyer in the UK of all places). I dunno I just really like this one myself too so I was happy it went. I also sold: This went last week. It was my very first “Request-A-Tee” and it was the buyers whole idea. (zee1). Thanks zee1 your a top minion. I was actually pretty happy with the result. zee1 made the request and the idea just popped into my head. I just wish I could do the same with small business ideas and pick-up lines. Oh well! I have a whole bunch of stock out back in my warehouse. My favourite is this: but I haven’t managed to move any yet. There are just crates and crates of them outside collecting dust. Umm… oh yeah! these two have also been very popular: So come on into my gallery. Have a coffee and hang out for a chat. I’ll be the one in the flanny shirt or the bright yellow safety jumper.

Hey everybody! / What the heck am I supposed to do now? The journal was my whole thing and now its a blog and I can’t stand out like a sore toe like I used to. I want people to see my blog and now its shuffled to the back unless it’s really cool or something. Oh well. Anyway I have been thinking about some redbubble possible mods I thought you might like to hear about (and comment on): 1. How about Postcards as well as Cards? / 2. How about RB business cards or brochures/catalogues so we can spruke about our gear? (Discounted for RB users of course) That way I can do a letterbox drop or place a brochure under your windscreen wiper while your happily shopping away. (annoying huh?) / 3. I don’t love the new journal format on the front page. / 4. How about some kind of artist ID on the tshirts – maybe on the collar tag beside the washing instuctions? / 5. How about featuring my gear on the frontpage for a whole week to make up for this new journal/blog monstrosity? I’m not sure I’ll ever really forgive you but this might help. More ideas to come. I’m an ideas man. I come up with stuff.

Trying to save my puppy's life

Mattie’s Story My 12 year old puppy Mattie has been recently diagnosed with liver cancer. When she had an ultrasound done, the doctor said she needed surgery to remove the tumor and the spleen (the tumor was wrapped completely around it), but it was only a 5-10% chance she would make it through. Well, she did and with flying colors. She was out chasing ducks 2 days later. Unfortunately, I found out the tumor has mastisized before they were able to remove it and cancer spread to her liver. They gave her less than 2 months to live. But, it’s been over 2 months and she’s still going strong. She’s already gone through 2 sessions of chemotherapy without getting sick, but the specialist told me last week not to expect too much. He also let me know approx. how expensive this was going to be. Her treatment includes 5 drugs: Denamarin, Doxorubicin, Cychophosphamide, Piroxicam, and Tramadol. Along with these drugs, she has to go in once a week to check blood and have x-rays/ultrasounds to determine the location and or spread of her cancer. So far, with the tests, surgery, x-rays, etc. the bill is up to $5000. The specialist told me to expect at least $8000 more. I just can’t give up fighting for her though. Whatever I have to do to save her I will do. She’s my kid. I’ve never been able to have children so my pets (Mattie and Checkers, her 16 year old brother) have become my children. Who knew you could ever love something so much. About my kids I adopted Checkers 15 years ago from a local shelter. On the day I met him, he was to be put down since he had been there over 7 months, so I asked if I could adopt him instead and he’s never left my side since. He has been so great taking care of Mattie. Any time he can sense that she’s hurting, he walks up and starts licking her ears and nudges under her chin to curl up & fall asleep. He never leaves Mattie for too long. I met Mattie when she was 6 weeks old. Her mother and 5 brothers and sisters were found starving in an alley Austin Texas until a local took them in and fed them until they were old enough to be adopted out. Most of her sibblings were adopted by the time I got there. Everyone wanted the ones that looked like black labs, which were all of them except Mattie. I stood outside the yard and watched for 10 minutes or so, watching her try everything she could to get any attention at all with no luck. All of a sudden this runt of the litter with her bloated belly and ears and feet that were waaay to big for her little body made a b-line through the yard straight for me. She was the most precious thing that I had ever seen in my entire life. Since then she’s gone everywhere with me, even tubing down the Guadalupe River in her own tube… my puppy freakin’ rocks! The 3 of us have been through everything you can imagine, including almost being homeless. I remember a time when I couldn’t even afford to buy groceries, it was either food for them or for me, so I was able to go for about 5 days without food so my kids could eat. Mattie has even saved me twice, once from a bad boyfriend and once from myself. She has never once given up on me, so there’s no way I’m giving up on her. Our Goal So far, We’ve tried to get grants from non-profit organizations but have been turned down by all of them, reasons being: she’s too old, we live in the wrong state, or they don’t pay for longterm medical assistance like chemo. Now, to try to raise money for Mattie’s bills, I’ve set up The Mattie Cancer Fund on my website. Here you can check out Mattie’s Photo Journal to see her daily progress and make donations. I’ve also designed a cute sticker with Mattie’s photo on it saying “I helped save a life today”. Anyone who donates $20 or more will recieve a sticker in the mail, so make sure to enter your name & address when making your donations. The donations have been set up through paypal for safe and secured transactions. Also, I’ve put several photos of Mattie and Checkers on tees and artwork on redbubble.com, cafepress.com, and my website. So the more pieces I sell, the closer I can get to giving her the help she needs. If anyone knows of any other ways to raise/receive money, I can use ANY and ALL the help I can get. If you know other animal lovers that may want to help Mattie, please pass this site along to them. Mattie’s webpage: / http://samitha.org/mattiecancerfund.htm I f you have any questions or suggestions, email me: samithahess@yahoo.com
