Vincent’s Cat Recently I’ve been looking at Vincent Van Gogh’s paintings. I love his irises and wanted to paint some myself. Their complicated forms and brilliant deep blues captivated me. As some of you may know I have a fondness for cats. During my life I have had two exceptional ginger cats ‘Victor’ and ‘Mittens’ who were very dear to me; this is dedicated to their memory. Acrylic on canvas / Size: 30cm x 30cm

In my search for Sydney letterboxes ,) I come across moments and opportunities. So, I am beginning a collection of some of these inner City Sydney moments: ‘Blink and You’ll Miss It’ - This image was recently used by DannyNolan in his journal entry EPIC / It’s a great read so check it out. / - Although this might look like a feral inner city cat, he was simply yawning after dozing on a possibly warm motorcycle engine on the first sunny and dry day in Sydney in what seemed like weeks. The other shots I took are friendly and sleepy…but this was a killer. Thanks to MBartworks for the cool title.

When Poppy was a kitten she loved getting her photo taken and would pose whenever she saw a camera … now she says ’’get that bleep bleep thing outa my face’‘ / She’s still my baby though and the cuddliest Cat I’ve ever had although you wouldn’t think so looking at that face! / I am very tired this morning after a broken night’s sleep with her waking me up almost once an hour to ’’get dried’’ after she’d been out in the rain getting soaked – which, incidentally, she loves – getting soaked I mean! It’s a mind-blowing experience getting jumped on in the middle of the night by a soggy moggie!

Jamil loves cats. When we met him just over a year ago he had rescued over 70 cats from the streets of Kuala Lumpur, Maylasia. He is truly an amazing man, he lives in a small flat with all his cats. Most nights you can find him outside the convenience store, collecting money for his beloved companions. It is wonderful and totally unbelievable – the cats sit on the bike for about 4 hours a night without getting off. They have a special communion with Jamil and respect him. But they only listen to him in English and not Malay! If they do start to stray, he chastises them in English, and they get back on the bike again. I think there is a rota for his pussies, they take it in turns to come out for the night. He also has a rota for which cats sleep with him at night. He is desparately trying to raise money to build a proper cat shelter. This picture shows a wonderful “wet nurse” cat who mothers and feeds any orphans who come Jamil’s way. She is a very loving pussy who seems to have enough milk and affection to go round. The tiny ginger kitten was a new addition that night, he was rescued from a gas station. I thought the other kitten was small until I saw the tiny one! When I met Jamil’s cats it made me want to cry, I had to hold back the tears.
