  • When I posted “For Mark, an American soldier, who gave his life in Iraq,” I didn’t realize that it would not print well as a card, so I’m adding this image of the same poem by Kim Graham and a different dragonfly photo to accommodate those who would like a copy of this in card size. 100% of proceeds from sales will go to the Mark W. Graham Foundation. According to the foundation’s official website, “The Mark W. Graham Foundation is a non-profit organization which provides support for young people of character and military families in crisis. It honors the legacy of Mark Graham, a fallen soldier whose strength of character and gift of service to his country are an inspiration to all who knew him. Mark was a Lafayette, La., native and his death opened the community’s eyes to the reality of war and the sacrifice soldiers make in their fight to keep our country free. He was married to Stephanie for a little more than a year when he died. Mark was 22 years old.

  • My Gladiolas are finally blooming, but the rain made this one even more top-heavy than usual. Found it laying on the grass this morning. Brought it in and put it in some water. Still had raindrops on it from the nights’ sprinkles. LavenderMoon~

  • I took these yesterday morning before leaving for work, and this afternoon, the rain weighed the blooms down and snapped the stalk. It was going to hold up, too… it’s a sturdy one. : ( But it looks nice in a vase, too. LavenderMoon~

All writing images poetry and lyrics copyright dimarie painter / 637FE-46E2D-C4743 Some people who are very dear to me are goin thru the depths of depression… / as much as I will be there for them, and do all i can… / sometimes i feel i am a bit of a casualty of their despair… / my own feelings and pain and issues are pushed aside, kept hidden, so as to give them what they need…. / I cant be there if i’m focusing on my own issues… / but sometimes it all gets a bit much / but we will get thru it / no matter how long it takes… edited to add…. / I understand depression, and its power… / those of you who know me, will knhow of my own depression that I have had since i was a child…and my utter contempt for my own depression, and denial and defiance of it that i go thru daily to the point where quite often i can come across as quite positive…full of life. / Its usually an act…to a degree…. / no words i speak are lies, i mean all of what i say, i see the good in all things, and its thru this that i have been chewed up and spat out too many times to count / and i have forgiven some of those who did wrong onto me / but others i havnt been able to… / this despair of my own, is always brimming just under the surface / always there waiting for me to get knocked down even slightly so it can consume me… / and so it does sometimes / but then the highs of life will kick in and i feel so great and truly positive and i have love and smiles for everything…. / nothing is really that bad…. / not lack of funds or food… / or peoples shitty moods / or dealing with all the past… / but it doesnt last / its never strong enough to coax my loved ones out of their own despair / and at times i have to leave / breathe / because their despair is contaminating my happy delusions… it threatens…no it does…take the sweetness out….. / and they see it…they see me breaking… / and it kills them / and that kills me / and its such a bit if a twisted mess / But i am resolved to be there for them / be there to the end

  • This is the front grill of our seni-truck full of poor butterflies and a few dragonflies!! Most of them are “snout” butterflies. This was taken down in southwest Texas. The half circle you are seeing up twards the top is not something on the lens or a reflection, this is where the engine fan is behind the grill. The birds sure did take advantage of the free meal of butterflies!!

  • Union Colonel Johnson looks down to the Valley below, as his troops secure the perimeter for the ensuing night. The last days’ battles resulted in significant casualties on both sides. Col. Johnson settles down at his field desk to write the following report: / / “Headquarters Couch’s Division,”Williamsburg, Va., May 8, 1862. “Sir, I have the honor to report that at 1 o’clock P.M., of May 5, the head of my Division, consisting of Peck’s Brigade only, arrived on the ground in rear of the center of our line of battle, and was by direction of General Keyes, posted by me supporting him, he being fiercely engaged. Peck soon moved forward, and for an hour and a half was opposed by nearly the whole of the enemy’s disposable force in front, covered the assaults of their infantry and cavalry, / but the determined courage of this Fort Magruder, distant 400 to 600 yards, with its plunging fire of shells and grape gallant officer and the steadiness of his brigade foiled all attempts to drive him from the ground. “The left of the 55th New York was twice forced back, but the 93rd Pennsylvania and the 72nd New York Volunteers, coming up furiously, recovered the space lost. *There was very little faltering, and I beg to say to the General / commanding that I want no higher earthly honor than to be the Commander of the First Division of this Corp. *The list of casualties were: Peck’s Brigade, killed, 18; wounded, 81; missing, 26. Deven’s Brigade, 1 killed and 2 wounded. Artillery detachment, 1 wounded. Total loss, 19 killed, / 84 wounded and 26 missing. Image created via layering 3 images total. My art with 1000+ views
