Eilean Doan Castle one of the Iconic Scotish Castles was just a magic place to visit and photograph. I spent close to 6 hours taking in the surrounds, the atmosphere and the serenity and of course the odd photo or two. Here is one of my favourites, I really like the balance of light and the reflections. I hope you like it too.

As one of the most iconic images of Scotland, Eilean Donan is recognised all around the world. Situated on an island at the point where three great sea lochs meet, and surrounded by some majestic scenery, it is little wonder that the castle is now one of the most visited and important attractions in the Scottish highlands. Although first inhabited around the 6th century, the first fortified castle was built in the mid 13th century and stood guard over the lands of Kintail. Since then, at least four different versions of the castle have been built and re-built as the feudal history of Scotland unfolded through the centuries. Partially destroyed in a Jacobite uprising in 1719, Eilean Donan lay in ruins for the best part of 200 years until Lieutenant Colonel John MacRae-Gilstrap bought the island in 1911 and proceeded to restore the castle to its former glory. After 20 years of toil and labour the castle was re-opened in 1932

I hope I haven’t worn out my welcome but it was one of the most photogenic locations we visited to here is another one.

Like a fairytale castle Mont Saint Michel at dusk in the rain, I got wet and cold but it was worth it for images like this.

Carew castle Pembrokshire South Wales is a fantastic location, I walked around this castle a lot last week as we were staying close by. The reflections were superb and here photographed as the sun was going down in the stillness of a warm summers evening a magical and mysterious time. Hope you like it. More Views around Carew This is part of my 2009 Calender Photographic Anthology…........
