THE LACAL ARTISTS PUT ON A SHOW AT THE CASTLE AND CROWDS OF PEOPLE ENJOYED THE FINAL FIREWORK SPECTACLE.
The fantasy behind this is based on The Mabinogi- a famous Welsh legend. Arawn is the King of Annwn, who appears in the first of the four branches of The Mabinogi. This is how I imagine his kingdom- both glorious and apocalyptic. (The photograph was taken in Milan, and altered using PS CS3).

A new approach for me – Thought I would try some fantasy matte work. / / This is a collaboration effort where Susan Davies provided the base image of Castell Coch and Rose Moxon kindly created the 3D dragons that I used in this composition. Thank you both – I couldn’t have created this without you guys. / I am quite pleased with the result I reached here – and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did creating it. / / I have prepared a step by step guide to how I got this effect, and you can read it here / /
This is four images combined, from Wales and the borders, each selected for their merging qualities. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did creating it .. :)) / The four images are / Clun castle / Pistyll Rhaeader / Elan valley / Clouds ( mist at the bottom of image ) DAC group info …... / Each desired element was selected and put on a layer / Layer masks were applied to each of the layers / Unwanted areas were painted out with a soft black brush / I applied Adjustments to each layer / When happy I merged all layers and saved. / . / . / Copyright Richie Dean 2008 / PhotoArtMaster and Photoshop

Ive tried merging two photos here to give a taste of this wonderful castle both in and out. Castell Coch is locally known as the fairytale castle, set in a wooded glade at tongwynlais, just outside cardiff, south wales. / Built in the 1870’s for the third marques of Bute to a design by William Burgess this castle possesses the most remarkable interior decoration, it was built on the remains of a genuine 12th century castle and was built in two stages. The castle was probably founded by a welsh lord in c1240-65. / It features a round tower and a D shaped courtyard and is built of rough rubble sandstone from which the castle gets its name castell coch (red castle. / The interior is definitely the best I have ever seen in a castle, its furnished with stunning ceilings, scenes from Aesop’s fables on the walls with bird and animal mouldings around the fantastic furnishings and fireplaces. / Not surprisingly there are tales of the castle being haunted by a cavalier. / On top of of the many splendours of the castle itself, the wooded glade gives a perfect setting for a picnic but the castle also has a lovely family run cafe that serves home-made meals and cakes including the very traditional welsh cakes. / A trip to this beautiful castle is a trip memories are made of.

Taken with a Canon 400D, Sigma 10-20 lens at 10mm, F11, shutter speed 0.2 seconds, ISO100, edited in Photoshop Beaumaris Castle on the Island of Anglesey is the great unfinished masterpiece. It was built as one of the ‘iron ring’ of North Wales castles by the English monarch Edward I, to stamp his authority on the Welsh. But it was never finished money and supplies ran out before the fortifications reached their full height. Please view large!
A Welsh Heritage site Carew is one of the few castles to display the development from Norman fortification to Elizabethan country house. There is evidence of a much earlier settlement, dating back perhaps some 2,000 years. The Castle is in a delightful country setting, overlooking the 23 acre Mill Pond. Over the centuries, remarkable individuals, some with close royal connections, have made their mark on the castle. The beautiful Princess Nest, the powerful Sir Rhys ap Thomas and the ambitious Sir John Perrot are all part of the Carew story. The Great Tournament of 1507, attended by 600 nobles, was one of the last of its kind in Britian.
Best viewed large This is a picture of the harbour of Conway and Conway castle, also the home of the smallest house in the uk can be found on the front which is usually open in the holidays and summer months for a small fee. / Taken on Sat 7th Feb 2009 A must for taking this kind of photograph is a tripod, idealy set it to delayed timer or use a remote, this is to avoid camera movement to get a shot with out motion blur , motion blur is easily done just from pressing the shutter button. !It is the largest castle in Wales and the second largest in Britain, Built mainly between 1268 and 1271, it is an early example of a concentric castle. The west mound was extended south to create a dam across the Nant Gledwr, leading to the formation of a large defensive lake south of the main castle. The dam was fortified on both sides and had a gatehouse to the south which received the access road; this where the town of Caerphilly later grew up. The central island was the site of the main structure of the castle, comprising a retaining wall (the middle ward with gatehouses east and west, and an inner ward with east and west gatehouses and circular corner towers. To the west, a further ditch separated the spur forming a western island; this had a retaining wall, and was levelled, but no stone fortifications were built here. To the north a ditch and bank formed a defensive moat. In the final phase the dam was extended north to form another lake to the north of the moat and bank, and a further moat and bank to the west, while an outer gatehouse and outwork in the middle of the dam gave access to the west. The whole was built over a four year period, and the layout was modified only slightly thereafter. the castle covered an area of 30 acres, making it one of the largest castles in Europe.!

Caerphilly castle, Wales / National Heritage site /
This Castle is in the pembrokshire national park, The castle stands on a limestone bluff overlooking the Carew inlet — a part of the tidal estuary that makes up Milford Haven. The site must have been recognised as strategically useful from the earliest times, and recent excavations in the outer ward have discovered multiple defensive walls of an Iron Age fort. The Norman castle has its origins in a stone keep built by Gerald de Windsor around the year 1100. Gerald was made castellan of Pembroke Castle by Arnulf of Montgomery in the first Norman invasion of Pembrokeshire. He married Nest, princess of Deheubarth around 1095. Nest brought the manor of Carew as part of her dowry, and Gerald cleared the existing fort to build his own castle on Norman lines. The original outer walls were timber, and only the keep was of stone. This still exists in the later structure as the “Old Tower”.
Part of the History of Carew Castle, Pembrokeshire, South Wales. Other shots of this fabulous castle click here :Carew Roland Rees held court in the north-west tower with a Barbary Ape. A wretched creature captured half-crazed from a shipwreck and now enchained for entertainment. On the night in question, there was a powerful storm with howling winds and rain lashing the windows. The ape grew restless and Rees grew morbid in the dull stupor of drink, when there was a knock at the door. A Flemish tradesman had made his way to the castle, distressed and emotional to tell how Rees’ son had forced his way into his home and raped his daughter. In drunken temper, Rees loosened the ape’s chains and goaded it maul the tradesman close to death. The tradesman dragged himself free and slammed the door shut between himself and the maddened ape. Weak through loss of blood, he struggled to make his way to the Castle gates and collapsed in semi-consciousness. Thick smoke then engulfed the Castle as the Northwest tower caught fire. The tradesman recovered and made his way back to the castle where he saw Rees and the Ape locked in mortal combat. A lighted taper in Rees’ hand had torched all it touched. The tradesman summoned all his strength and fled, never return to the castle again. The ghost of the tormented ape is said to haunt the castle to this day. Extract from Wikipedia
