Blossom’s_Photo_Gallery View from Ruined Castle Blue Mountains National Park, New South Wales, Australia. The Ruined Castle is an outcrop of large rocky boulders that lies in the middle of the ridge that runs from Castle Head, off Narrow Neck Peninsula, to Mt Solitary. It is a local high point, jutting out above the surrounding bush, and has 360 degree views of the area. The walk from the Golden Stairs to the Ruined Castle is one of the best easy day walks in the Blue Mountains.

The castle is located in what was once the very volatile border area between England and Scotland. Not only did the English and Scots fight, but the area was frequently attacked by Vikings. The castle was built in 1550, around the time that Lindisfarne Priory went out of use, and stones from the priory were used as building material. It is very small by the usual standards, and was more of a fort. The castle sits on the highest point of the island, a whin stone hill called Beblowe. It can be located in Northumberland,on Holy Island. England.

A painting I sometimes wish I hadn’t sold, the ruin of Dunscaith Castle, on Skye, is maybe my favourite place in the world. So far (along with “The Connectivity Of History) it has only been the subject of two paintings- but I think I could probably get a whole exhibition out of this one location. Unfortunately, this particular painting is only available as a card because it is a digital transfer of an old stylee 35mm negative (remember the pre-digital camera days?).
