Eilean Doan Castle one of the Iconic Scotish Castles was just a magic place to visit and photograph. I spent close to 6 hours taking in the surrounds, the atmosphere and the serenity and of course the odd photo or two. Here is one of my favourites, I really like the balance of light and the reflections. I hope you like it too.

Taken at Monsalvat in Eltham, Victoria, Australia. I couldn’t resist this approach as the old house begged for treatment and a dark and moody atmosphere. Hadn’t been here since I went there for a wedding as a young child, this approach to the image is sort of what I remember the place being like! HDR from 3 exposures in Photomatix, Adobe Lightroom conversion to Antique Light and then birds added in Adobe Photoshop CS3. a cold and miserable day resulted in exploring any shelter I could find, these arches are part of the napolionic defences of Portsmouth. This image has been replaced since i got a better camera. hope you like it check out this fella he’s my boy

Have been taking advantage of the sunny weather. Here is another IR shot. There were some strange sucking noises coming from the moat around this ruined castle…..so strange in fact that I was compelled to investigate. I walked over to the edge and was confronted by the open mouth of a HUGE mirror carp sucking bread off the surface…....I had thought it was a real moat monster that was fed prospective suiters for the squires daughter if they didnt come up to scratch. There is just something about old ruins that makes them gag to be photographed in IR…...I can feel a summer of weirdness in the offing….....if the sun keeps shining and the rain keeps off…......BEST VIEWED LARGE /

The Castle itself can be traced back to 1379. It is a stone twin towered fortress, built by the Bassett family and is inside the ramparts of the Iron Age hill fort. It was probably built has a hunting lodge, or as a chapel to St Michael. It has been restored and extended over the years, and today has the look of a modern folly, rather than a medieval fort. The views from this spot are splendid, and you can see for miles on a bright evening. Truly something different for the whole family. This shot was taken with a Canon AE1 35mm camera about 15 years ago and scanned into the computer. This is Powis Castle near Welshpool, Mid Wales. It’s a fine place to visit, because it’s full of period furniture and paintings, knights armour and musical instruments of the time, a harpsichord was being played as i walked around, which really painted the mood of the castle.
