  • The Vigilant When no land was secure, this stone-made giants assured that the next day wouldn’t be made of captivity and suffering. Strategically placed, these strongholds were the ones who held a country’s name and honour during times of war. Fortunately we are in times of peace, and it’s amazing to step on the luxurious grass, and hear the wind while gazing such gorgeous castle. I can hear the church’s bells far away, a child laughter near, and the sound of the sheeps right in front of me. Yet… the sense of respect is omnipresent, and the scent of bravery still lives here… This is Castelo do Lindoso in the north of Portugal, on Serra do Gerês. José Ramos

  • A little slice of the history of Edinburgh, the Governor’s House on Calton Hill in Edinburgh. / Looking quite medieval, this is actually an early 19th century structure, the remains of the old Calton Gaol, a prison that was once on the historic hill. / Atmospheric evening fog and illumination came together to make this something special. Available as cards and a variety of prints – if interested in cards, on the preview page, please try with “black backing” as the artist intends.

Thank you both – I couldn’t have created this without you guys. / I am quite pleased with the result I reached here – and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did creating it. / / I have prepared a step by step guide to how I got this effect, and you can read it here / /

  • entrance of castell coch, wales one of my favourite castles

  • the courtyard of castle coch, cardiff wales

  • Ive tried merging two photos here to give a taste of this wonderful castle both in and out. Castell Coch is locally known as the fairytale castle, set in a wooded glade at tongwynlais, just outside cardiff, south wales. / Built in the 1870’s for the third marques of Bute to a design by William Burgess this castle possesses the most remarkable interior decoration, it was built on the remains of a genuine 12th century castle and was built in two stages. The castle was probably founded by a welsh lord in c1240-65. / It features a round tower and a D shaped courtyard and is built of rough rubble sandstone from which the castle gets its name castell coch (red castle. / The interior is definitely the best I have ever seen in a castle, its furnished with stunning ceilings, scenes from Aesop’s fables on the walls with bird and animal mouldings around the fantastic furnishings and fireplaces. / Not surprisingly there are tales of the castle being haunted by a cavalier. / On top of of the many splendours of the castle itself, the wooded glade gives a perfect setting for a picnic but the castle also has a lovely family run cafe that serves home-made meals and cakes including the very traditional welsh cakes. / A trip to this beautiful castle is a trip memories are made of.

  • This image was taken in Croatia in a little town of Rovinj. It was a stormy evening and a night and I was sat on the town square watching the lightning. / Morning after the storm was so peaceful.

  • Giove, Italy ! Taken in the small medieval town of Giove in Umbria but just one hour away from Rome !

  • The castle is pear-shaped and sits on a mound completely surrounded by a deep-cut moat, while the outer bailey lies at the front of the castle outside the moat. A high curtain wall connects the castle’s six large, round towers. The two front towers form the 13th-century gatehouse and the 12th-century curtain apparently survives to its original height. The gatehouse at White Castle rivals some of the most impressive Norman gatehouses in Wales.

  • Late nineteenth-century ‘fairytale’-style castle, built on medieval remains, designed for the third marquess of Bute by William Burges. Lavishly decorated and furnished in the Victorian Gothic style; a Romantic vision of the Middle Ages. / The castle was probably founded by a Welsh lord in c1240-65

  • I created this drawing to enter in the challenge for the Tiger Tiger Group. A fantasy sort of idea about a tiger playing in the water…with “WATER TORNADOES:):)” This drawing took around seven days to complete. I used Faber Castell, polychromos art pencils to draw this piece with. Thanks, Patricia Anne, for your friendliness and encouragement concerning my work. I quit creating for years and a few years ago I made the decision to pick up my pencil again and start creating. I just did not realize how bad I missed it. These challenges are excellent, regardless of the outcome, because it challenges me to think up ideas and then I attempt to put my thoughts onto paper, which allows me to hopefully grow as an artist. Thanks for viewing my work:) cathy
