Writers selling stuff?
by Xavier RussoAs a little experiment, I uploaded an image versio…
As a little experiment, I uploaded an image version of my Ode to Nothing poem and bought it on white and black greeting cards. Worked quite well. This might be a way for writers on RedBubble to participate in selling Simply create a greeting card related to your writing: maybe an image, quote, or (if short enough) the whole written work. Then readers who like your writing can buy the card – you get paid and they get a little momento. As another example, kseriphyn has a logo for her story The Callings . If this was available as a greeting card, readers could show their appreciation for the story by buying one. All you need is some way of creating an image file. This is possible even if you don’t have a fancy graphics program (for the poem above, I just used Powerpoint and saved the file as a jpeg) It’s not a perfect solution but it can be done right now. What do you think? I’d love to hear from both writers and readers

Taken at the old station, New Oxford, Pennsylvania, USA in 2007. Makes for a nice print, but the card is too heavily cropped – sorry

Dunno if anyone here reads or subscribes to DESKTOP magazine but if you do have a squiz at page 12 (I think it is) of this month. The Debrief/case study is about a multimedia job done by my company – Joe Public (yes I am a proud stage mother!) / They are also publishing a photo essay I’ve done with my Rwanda shots in the November issue.

This is the actual shape of the canvas The shape of the canvas becomes an integral part of this painting to enhance the illusion of a three dimensional object. / “Metaphor For A Metaphor” is about our predilection for categorizing everything that we experience, whether it fits into our scheme of things or not. Well today, as I turn 45, I landed myself a freelance, part time, call you when we need you photographer job. I start tomorrow. I’d say I’m rather pleased. All that work to get my folios together, all the crying, kicking printers, screaming at cats, dogs, spiders, dishes, and unravelling toilet paper was worth it. When I make enough money (ha ha ha) I am going to treat myself to my T-shirt … the Official Frogtographer one. I want that. I deserve that. I’m going to get it. :)

This is a collage I made. I made a mask out of words, added bullet casings near the mirror with the painting of a blurred woman and under the mask… looke close and you will see many other things. I’m glad you asked. This was made as a mockery to some people in my class that thought my art was too depressing… they said “why is your art so dark?, Why cant you make something nice and beautyful?” It kinda made me mad.. so I made this, and they liked it which made me smile, because they missed the meaning in the art all together. All I had to do was add some butterflys and a cool mask to it for it to become acceptable to them. The mask idea came because I thought “ok I will conseal it.. or “mask” it” but at the same time NOT. So the mask is to hide and destract from the meaning but at the same time to send a message that this is my art, the mask is dark with white words because like it says “out of the dark” comes the truth (we are in a WARtime garden. People only want to see the beauty, they don’t want to know the truth, they would rather be misslead), my art is my art and I wont be sensored and to the people in my class “you are a fool to say such a thing to someone.. are you not an artist? Does art have to be beautiful and atractive? Is your art not a brief look into your feelings and thought, a record of the history being made around you?”

This shop in a town in country Victoria was perplexing. It was closed at the time of the picture, but it was hard to tell for how long – 2 days or 20 years? The ‘gown’ in the glass display case certainly looked like it had been there for an eternity, yet the secondhand clothing inside seemed in reasonable condition. (Although strangely, the rooms inside the building looked as though they belonged to an obsessive hoarder rather than a shopkeeper, as the items were piled up in strange random configurations that would have made browsing near impossible). Note mysterious bust above doorway.
