It Whispered Your Name The night rose as a sweet mist, / Arms around me as a shivering lover, / Needing warmth, / Like a flow of heat from hardened earth, / Beneath the burning sun…. / I spread my arms to embrace, / But I could not reach, / Eastward the mist flowed, / Pulling me in its soft arms, / A dream carrying me, / Through the still night, / To a vision upon a never sleeping shore / Dimmed by clouds upon the mountains, / It whispered your name, softly, / As a poem to a Lover, / Standing silent…in the sweet mists Cascais Bay, was this night, a nearly silent spot, only the occasional sleepless walker, without the noise of car exhausts and delivery trucks, each boat riding at its anchor, as if the sea were rocking them to slumber. Just hours earlier, the harbor was a busy scene of traffic, with supplies, and ocean products as plentiful as the hurried worried pedestrians. Now, it was much less hurried, much less worried. Little moon shown, perhaps just wisked away by truculent clouds, winning the battle this evening against the reflection of the sunked sun, against the ragged lunar surface. The romance of the limpid waters in the bay, lent a langorous air to the swirling vapors, dimming both lights and scene. Cloudy nights are not nearly as depressing as cloudy afternoons. Lovers will walk hand in hand down stone sidewalks, as lovers have done for centuries. I can picture the famous lover Amadis, clicking along in his black and stylish boots, lady on his arm, peering with his blue eyes at the sea, much as I would do, from that same vantage. Turning to his lady, kissing her upon the cheek, as she smiled and blushed under the flickering flame of a rare streetlamp. What could be more romantic above Cascais Bay, than a gentleman and lady, dressed in rich silks of the day…pausing to kiss at this wall. If only my digital camera could send me back in time….we only freeze moments….and hold them…..Kisses :)
